Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Richardbetfred. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Betfred, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 17:58, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Spf121188, I really appreciate the feedback on this edit and apologies for not adhering to the guidelines as far as 'conflict of interest' is concerned. I thought that the transparency and authenticity route was the best approach given the nature of the edit.
- I feel that the nature of the edit request was very relevant to the company page, as far as it pertains to global updates of the business in terms of updating the territories that it now operates and four new partnerships it has in place with four well known sports teams.
- I will follow the guidelines as laid out in the proposed changes/{{request edit}} template and hope that they get approved.
- Thanks again,
- Richard Richardbetfred (talk) 20:59, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- There's no need to apologize! Wikipedia has several policies and even I've just scratched the surface in regards to all of it. If you follow the process you just laid out, you'll be just fine. Please, do not hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions or if I can help in any way. Thank you for responding and I appreciate your effort to improve the encyclopedia :). I'll add that I know your edits were made in good faith, I just wanted to leave this template on your talk page so you have the information you need to move forward. - Thanks, fingers crossed. Richardbetfred (talk) 11:56, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hey, @Spf121188
- Hope this message finds you well. I followed the process that you laid out for updating a brand page in line with the conflict of interest (contribution can be found here - Talk:Betfred#Some proposed changes). Please could you take a look and provide feedback if I need to change anything. Other than that, what is the general wait time for proposed changes to be processed on Wiki?
- Many Thanks,
- Richard Richardbetfred (talk) 16:26, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello again! I would be happy to take a look, but it might not be until this evening or tomorrow morning. Unfortunately my work day has gotten busy all of a sudden, but I will definitely leave you a message here as soon as I can. Thanks! SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 17:04, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- No rush at all, do it at your convenience. I appreciate your time. Thanks and enjoy your day. Richardbetfred (talk) 18:09, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Everything looks fine! I actually went ahead and restored your original edit to the page, since you included references and clearly you were editing in good faith. The only thing I didn't include is the sentence where you had the websites in the lead. Thank you for responding and following those steps to request the edit! If there is anything I can ever do to help you, please let me know! I'll be happy to hep! SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 18:22, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- That was quick, thanks very much. There was just the one more edit around the two new locations, added them below.
- Specific text to be added (to the following sentence - *it has its head office is in Birchwood, Warrington, and also has offices in Media City, Salford Quays, Salford.)
- , Johannesburg and Las Vegas.
- Reason for the changes: new locations opened.
- ----
- Specific text to be added (to the following sentence - Betfred.com, the company's online gambling site, is based in Gibraltar and registered as Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited.)
- Betfredsports.com is the website of the USA operation and Betfred.co.za is the South African arm of the business.
- Reason for the changes: expanded services in two new territories. Richardbetfred (talk) 18:31, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- The only change I wouldn't think is appropriate is including the web addresses within the article space, but you could include the links in the External links section at the bottom. As for the head office changes, do you have a source (website/article online,) that I can add as well to support the addition? SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 18:39, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's understandable feedback on the websites. However, the links to the updated locations/territories are below:
- Las Vegas and the entry in to the USA - not sure which is most suitable
