ICH

[edit]

The ICH entry is probably still to long (6/9/6). I hope that the current edit will satisfy the two main protagonists (striver and morton), and that that this can be used as a reasonable starting point should this entry survive/evolve as the subject either becomes more notable or fades into the ether.

My interest is that I do scan ICH. I do not agree with all content but find it a quick method of scanning news from an alternate perspective - and this makes a refreshing change on occasion. I find that recently with tensions in the ME mounting that the article distribution is scewed, but this is true of all news outlets and merely reflects the times. The site also attracts some vocal/beligerant comments on some of its comment pages that can be considered a detraction.

Personally I do not like the prominent inclusion of A Jones and M Moore material in the article Information_Clearing_House. If the the wiki entry for Jones (unkown outside US?) is any guide, he comes across as a less than convincing, somewhat sensationalist activist. Sure, it appears he gets his message out... but...

I enjoyed Moores "Columbine". Being outside the US I probably have a different perspective about the particular "gun owning" narrative that seems to hold there. I thought it raised some interesting points - but sometimes Moore can't help himself. His 911 I thought was less successful - but interesting/entertaining. Both films reached a wide audience which served his objective.

My objection to them on ICH is that these guys and theories are not the main purpose of the site as I interpret it. I liked the site because it put article A next to article B and I could read them with out having to dig around p10 of the mainstream newspapers. This other material is an add on really... perhaps to attract a larger audience, add a bit of mulitmedia excitement... who knows. But with the advent of YouTube and Google Video I suspect more and more of this will be archived there and only links provided. Also Moore and Jones seem to have a large enough profile of their own... and surely neither needs any more inlfating via this article.

I agree with the inclusion of "Nightmares" as this seems to be an example of what the site IS about ... material, extensively shown outside the US with some critcal notice, but as far as I know not broadcast (widely?) within (reagardless of what you think of the film). The same for the more modest "Lecture" style recordings of public presentations and gatherings. The news articles archived can dissappear behind walls or dissappear from websites. I think it is notable that books have refferenced ICH in the back matter... and this fact should be retained.

I hope the article can gel around the current format. Cheers. Ribosome 05:14, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
