193.40.23.124's Deletion Comment
[edit]HI! I have made a page about my senior and Indian Scientist Gyaneshwer Chaubey and it seems that you have deleted the page. Could you tell me the reason?
- Hello 193.40.23.124, just to let you know, next time you leave a message on a talk page, press the + button and write a subject. Thanks for being civil! RyGuy 15:20, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
The page was deleted under speedy deletion criteria A7, which allows for the deletion of unremarkable people, including academics. A guideline for inclusion for academics is set out at WP:PROF. PhD students without significant expertise in their area of work are not included.
However, if you can rewrite the article with verifiable external sources to assert the subject's notability, the article may be included, or it may still be deleted as failing Wikipedia's inclusion criteria for individuals. I also cannot believe that you wrote the article for your senior, judging by your username. If you wish to include personal information on your userpage, you may do so. Please ask me if you have further questions. Cheers, – riana_dzasta 22:22, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks!
[edit]Thanks for your support on my RfA. It passed with 55/0/0. I'll try my best to be worthy of the trust the community has put in me. Deleted Page
[edit]Hi,
This might sound like a strange request from a stranger, but could you please show me the text of the following deleted page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Alexander_Belikov
It's of personal interest and I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Houston euler 03:09, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- All done. I have a TA with the same name and I thought it might have been his vanity page, which would have been amusing. Thanks for the favor, though! Houston euler 03:18, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
I like you new page.

- Tired, as usual. :) I should probably get used to it, since I wouldn't expect to get a God-given amount of sleep for at least a year. :P It's worth it though. I can't wait until she starts looking like her daddy. ;) — $PЯINGrαgђ 03:18, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Actually she looks like her mama…but I would still like it if she had red hair. :D (Mama was blond.) — $PЯINGrαgђ 03:24, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yep—my hair was just the opposite. (It's curly now and was straight when I was born.) And even most babies who end up with black or brown eyes are born with blue eyes. I think little girl's eyes may stay blue though, especially if her hair does turn blond. — $PЯINGrαgђ 03:31, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- LOL that was funny. Hmm, though, I've never thought about it before, but I think if my hair was any other colour (except maybe black), it would go just fine with my eyes, and the same for my eyes. Although I've also seen some mighty dark-haired Irishmen also with green eyes, so…:| I'll just take the colours I have though. :) — $PЯINGrαgђ 03:37, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Of course not. :P Why, if I didn't have my pole-skinny fellow-countrymen to fight for me (to keep up my reputation—very important :P), what would be left for us fat Pats to do? I can say that 'cuz I'm one of 'em. ;) — $PЯINGrαgђ 03:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

disambig
[edit]Hey Riana, I don't mean to annoy you, but I just thought I might point out that back in July 2005 you mentioned that punjab was yours to fix, but many months later, it's still not really a great disambig page. Perhaps when you get a chance you could put some finishing touches on it. Vicarious 09:55, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- Not annoyed at all! It's a vicious page to fix, that's all. I'll do it when I have more time. Ta for the reminder. – riana_dzasta 12:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
McDonald's
[edit]Hi. I didn't edit the McDonald's article as you say in your message! Please explain. Milton25 10:09, 8 March 2007 (UTC) Additional: According to the my contributions log I did, but I had not even visited the McDonald's page by that time. I have subsequently done so, but I have not editted it, nor do I have any interest in doing so. I am not yet familiar enough with the way previous edits are presented to determine what I am supposed to have done, so perhaps you could help me understand this further. Thanks. Milton25 11:25, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that the log makes it look as if I did, but I can assure you I didn't! I have logged on to Wikipedia through my work networked computer. Is it possible that someone else could have done it through another computer on the same network, and it show up as me? Milton25 13:12, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

- Nothing too fancy, I hope - please do read WP:SIG to see what sort of thing is allowed :) Go to 'my preferences' in the top right corner; go to the signature box and enter any code you want for your signature; click 'raw signature' so that the HTML/CSS works out properly; save your preferences, and you're off :) Eg, if you want your sig to look like this:

[edit]Please do not delete the picture of the Dell headquarters. I attached a link that clearly indicates that there is no copyright infringement. Indiscriminate editing of wikipedia reduces its usefulness.

RFCN
[edit]Weary grin...rather silly, but the irony is certainly amusing. It's been allowed, anyway. We just don't have to enforce the username policy that strictly: there's a balance to be struck between bad usernames and just letting good-faith contributors contribute. Username policy/guideline is not like WP:ATT, which we simply have to stick to, otherwise things fall apart. Even if strict adherence to WP:ATT drives away good-faith contributors, it's a price we have to pay for a reputable encyclopedia. But...usernames? Blimey.
Looking forward to the cricket world cup, anyway. Our form picked up quite considerably at the end Down Under, though winning the one-dayers was no consolation for you darned Aussies thrashing us in the Ashes. Cheers, Moreschi Request a recording? 19:55, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

RE advice
[edit]Thanks for the advice you gave me about RfA. I read through User:Riana dzasta/RfA, and I'm pretty sure that I meet all of your criteria; in particular, I'm a very active participant in XfDs. You don't cite a specific editcount that you look for in an admin candidate; would my 3,200 edits be sufficient? Also, do you think I have enough experience across all areas? (My weak point is that I only have 38 WP talkspace edits, and virtually none to categories, templates or images - however, I'm working on my WT edits through participation in policy discussions, and from looking at past RfAs it doesn't look like lack of image or template experience is often brought up as a reason to oppose.) Thanks again for your help! Walton Vivat Regina! 21:30, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I don't know much about portals; are there any you can suggest that need work? I have quite a lot of article contribs (adding sources etc.), but as you say, my overall mainspace contribs come out quite low as a proportion of my overall edits. So I'd be very grateful if you could point me to one or two portals and/or lists that I can help with. Walton Vivat Regina! 17:20, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Messages left on RfA nominees' talk pages
[edit]Hi Meteoroid! I don't want to sound like I'm censoring you or telling you off, but I don't know if this sort of message is very nice - I noticed you left one on Chacor's page too. Trust me, when someone is on RfA, they're checking it every so often, so they know if thye're passing or failing - and the way you phrase it sounds, well, kinda mean. Maybe a recommendation to withdraw, politely, something along the lines of "It looks like your request is unlikely to reach consensus. Have you considered withdrawing?" would probably be a bit nicer. Thanks, and I hope you don't take offense. Cheers, – riana_dzasta 09:22, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, maybe i was harsh on them, i will use a more appropriate message from now on. Cheers. —Meteoroid » 15:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

User:89.175.96.226
[edit]Hi, FYI I noticed you put a 41-hour block on User:89.175.96.226, but he's straight back to vandalism on expiry: North Korea and weapons of mass destruction ("The strategy used by the koreans was to pull stuff out of their ass, and make bombs."), and just plain silliness to Fragile X syndrome, The Rasmus. Are you interested in doing another block? (Personally I'm so fed up with IP vandalism, that I'd support banning no-login edits to any previously vandalised page.) Rwendland 10:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry about the late reply! I am trying not to do the same admin action twice, but since the guy has since stopped vandalising after your last warning, I guess it's OK. Report to AIV if he starts up his mischief again, and thanks for the hard work. – riana_dzasta 00:56, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- That's OK, it wasn't a big deal. Another admin has blocked him, independently of my comments, for 48-hours anyway. Rwendland 14:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

How to classify images?
[edit]I noticed that my contribution of a historic photograph will be deleted because it does not fit well in any of Wikipedia's categories (In "Proof of Payment" -- photo Edmonton_Turnstiles.JPG).
Perhaps you can explain how one should classify a widely-distributed publicity photo. This photo was circulated by Edmonton Transit, under my supervision as Marketing Officer. However, I was not the photographer. The Wikipedia categories do not seem clearly worded in dealing with something released by a government, other than the United States government, for public education or promotional purposes.
The point in the city spending money to prepare and distribute this photo was to make it available to the public. It seems peculiar for Wikipedia then to deny it to the public.
I have other relevant photos that were produced for similar reasons -- intended for publications before the Internet was in common use -- and it is sad to think that these would remain in a drawer because I did not personally photograph them.

[edit]You will notice also that User:William Guillot only has two edits: one to add a biography to his/her user page, one to blank his/her user page. Why is everyone I know changing names? Wizardry Dragon --> Peter M Dodge, Deco --> Dcoetzee, you to Riana... maybe I should switch to Ayelie as everyone thinks Editor at Large is a fat male. Or to Editor at Small... Editoress at Large? or maybe I'll just stick to my name and make it known that I am a skinny slender female. ^_^ Why did you decide to switch? - I considered changing my account name to Kyoko, but after looking at what has happened to some users who have changed their names, I realised that if I were to change my name, I would effectively lose attribution in the edit history of the articles that I am most proud of creating (lung transplantation, lung allocation score, other medical stuff). Meaning that in their edit history, they would be credited to a redlinked User:Tachikoma. I know that I'm not supposed to own articles, but I like to have some credit for my work too, and I don't want all that hard work being claimed by someone who didn't contribute at all to the articles. I should have just used my name when I first signed up, but at the time, I was feeling paranoid.--Kyoko 03:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- It's a surprise to me that the edit history transfers, because I looked at what happened to User:Sarah Ewart and User:Sarah, and the edit histories didn't seem to be fully updated. Maybe I will change my name after all. Do you have to move your subpages or anything? --Kyoko 03:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- That's good to know. I have a bunch of subpages, and I don't use all of them. I'd have to modify my javascript page too. I'll think about it. I just got tired of being called "Tachikoma", you know? Maybe I'll pursue this when I feel better and become more consistently active again on Wikipedia. --Kyoko 03:20, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello Again!
[edit]It's good to see you're back from your vacation - I hope it was recharging! Erich Blume 00:43, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, it's been a roller coaster of a year for me. I've dropped out of college for a year or two to secure finances and also rethink my career choice. Some odd jobs, some tech jobs... but all in all, a time I think I shall remember fondly. How is your school treating you? Erich Blume 08:55, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks!
[edit]Thanks for the congratulations - belatedness is not a problem at all. I'm just surprised that so many people are paying attention! Natalie 03:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Regarding "Wah Yan College Cats"
[edit]About your deletion of Wah Yan College Cats, I would like to know whether it was deleted following the standard speedy deletion procedure or not (I was not notified in my talk page). Thanks! --Raphaelmak 10:29, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Ah yes, what actually is the HagermanBot? --Raphaelmak 11:29, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
I also doubt that Wah Yan College Cats is of "Unremarkable people, groups, companies and web content". If it is of Unremarkable people, groups, companies and web content, it wouldn't be even reported in Hong Kong newspapers. See the following newspaper cuttings for reference. (Sorry most of them are in Chinese, but this is the main language used in Hong Kong, thus asserting importance)
- [6] Singpao, 26 Jan 2002 (Chinese)
- [7] Hong Kong Daily News, 2 Nov 2002 (Chinese)
- [8] South China Morning Post, 23 Feb 2000
- [9] Wah Yan College Cats mentioned in an article written by a reader to the Hong Kong Economic Journal, 4 Feb 2004 (Chinese)
I hope you will appreciate the above point. Cheers, --Raphaelmak 11:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

How to classify images?
[edit]Thank you. I'm in the middle of some other projects, so will take the time to re-create this material -- captions, format, photo upload -- later. Rw rynerson 18:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Rapu-related deletes: thanks and a note/question.
[edit]Thanks for cleaning up the Rapu-related items I tagged recently. There is a remaing category, Category:Rapu, that most of this stuff was in. It's all related, but I didn't know how to tag the category because none of the tags listed on WP:CSD seemed to fit (suggestions for future cases would be welcome!). The category contains a couple of pictures. I am suggesting the category and images should be deleted also. Thanks ✤ JonHarder talk 23:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm... I must admit, I'm not the best with category deletions. Try CfD, maybe? – riana_dzasta 10:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
