Hello Resource Advantage. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Phos-Chek, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Resource Advantage. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Resource Advantage|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. BilCat (talk) 21:11, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Orange Mike | Talk 21:16, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Orangemike Sorry for violating any Wikipedia rules. I have never used the system before for updates, and was asked by our client to make updates/corrections to the PHOS-CHEK page. I was then going to start creating a page for the parent company, Perimeter Solutions, but read an article with instructions on how to create a Wikipedia page that said I needed to become an "autoconfirmed user" first by making 10 edits, so I looked for random pages around fire safety that I could edit the word PHOS-CHEK to try to get to 10 edits. I also received a note from [[1]] about disclosing our employer/client, which I will do. But, it looks like I need to create a new page, or rename my current Resource Advantage account? I'll have to read through both of yours and BilCat's notes to figure out how to do this moving forward. I hope that you'll keep the updates I made to the PHOS-CHEK page, as they are accurate and correct inaccurate information. Thanks for the help. And, I hope I'm responding the right way -- I've never done this before either, so if you can send a reply, I'd appreciate it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Resource Advantage (talkcontribs)

Please use the unblock instructions in the message above if you want your account to be unblocked, otherwise administrators will never notice your request. You're correct in that you will not be allowed to use your current account name; accounts cannot be named after or represent a business. You will also be expected to understand and comply with the mandatory paid editing disclosure policy; that is, identifying which articles you have been paid to edit and who is paying you.
Please understand that this alone does not guarantee that the edits you submit will be accepted. They must always meet Wikipedia's core content policies of verifiability, reliable sourcing and neutrality. Also, article content is not owned by either you or your clients; anyone can make changes to articles, and your clients cannot demand that it stays at a version that they prefer. Content disputes should be discussed first on the article talk page and failing that, dispute resolution measure may be utilized.
Please take time to review Wikipedia's conflict of interest guide and paid editing rules before submitting an unblock request. Thanks. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 13:43, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi Orangemike, I've updated my username, and would like to get in compliance with all other requirements. Can you ubnblock me, so that I can update my user page to reflect the paid relationship with my employer and client, and everything else I need to do. Thanks!

Decline reason:

Not needed; user created a new account. 331dot (talk) 19:38, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Sorry, I think I was confused. Did you submit a username change request yourself? It'd have been quicker if you followed the instructions above, but that's okay- when the change is processed, the block can be removed. 331dot (talk) 19:08, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot I changed my username to DanGreen23, and received confirmation via email that my new name was active, but after seeing your note and visiting the page, I see that Resource Adantage is still the name of the page. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

An account exists by that name; I think you created/requested a new account instead of changing your username- which is fine. Try logging in with your new username. 331dot (talk) 19:31, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks 331dot. That worked. It now reflects the new user name. Once I get unblocked, I can make sure I am in compliance with all the other rules as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DanGreen23 (talkcontribs)

@DanGreen23: To be completely clear, your new account - DanGreen23 - is not blocked. However please review the paid editing policy and conflict of interest guide to ensure that you comply with both. This account - Resource Advantage - will remain blocked. Simply abandon it and use your DanGreen23 account going forward. You can only operate one account at a time. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:50, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks [[User: Drm310|Drm310]. I'll review the paid editing policy and conflict of interest guide to make sure I'm in compliance moving forward. DanGreen23 (talk) 19:54, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
