Researchingreg, the first step is to upload the image to Wikipedia. Use the Upload Wizard to do so. Keep in mind you must be able to release this for free use, if not, don't upload it! After the image is uploaded, simply use the [[File: ]] syntax to add the image. For example:

[[File:Spectral-lines-continuous.svg|thumb|[[Spectrum|Continuous spectrum]]]] will produce the image you see on the right.
