Opata

[edit]

Hello, thanks for the message. I have had a username for over a decade but I rarely use it because I often edit while I'm on the go, from different computers or networks, so I don't bother to log in. I am familiar with many people with mixed Opata ancestry, as well as people who probably have *full* Opata ancestry. However, as I'm sure you know, due to Mexican concepts of indigeneity, some people with full Opata heritage may say "mis bisabuelos eran opatas" without considering themselves Opata. I realize you were not the one who added the sources "Global Spark, "Nicole Yanes, Opata Nation" and "Third International Indigenous Women's Symposium on Environmental and Reproductive Health" but I am wondering if you are familiar with them, since I was unable to find them from the information provided in the citations. I think it would be excellent to add more information on the current situation of the Opata people, or even Opata-descended people who don't consider themselves Opata, but unfortunately it is difficult to find reliable sources. Yetman mentions it briefly in his book but frustratingly does not investigate much beyond stating that some people who identify as Opata *exist*. I have quite a bit of first-hand knowledge but as you know, this isn't a sufficient source for Wikipedia. --70.184.83.221 (talk) 22:41, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Enchi hiokoe for the comments. I also am not familiar with "Global Spark, "Nicole Yanes, Opata Nation" and "Third International Indigenous Women's Symposium on Environmental and Reproductive Health." Mostly I try to corroborate and substantiate some of the posting done on that page, with occasional minor additions. I mostly identify as Yoeme, but my maternal line is directly descended from Opata bloodlines. I thank you again for your contributions. Please log in as much as you can. Positing from IP address only is always suspicious for the simple fact that you are pretty much untraceable, and can't be followed to verify the significance and veracity of your contributions across many pages. Personally, I stand by any statements I make on a page, and always back up any significant content with multiple sources. A good example is what I have done on the Cajemé page. Keep up the good work, and do try to log in as much as possible. Lios emak weye. 23:55, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
