Citing

[edit]

Hi, again. Just a note on citation layout. We have some templates that will help. Here's the syntax for one of the references you just added:

<ref>{{cite journal|last=Sparr|first=Arnold J.|title=From Self-Congratulation to Self-Criticism: Main Currents in American Catholic Fiction 1900-1960|journal=U.S. Catholic Historian|date=1987}}</ref>

Try copying-and-pasting that text into the reference on the page Catholic fiction and see how it works. -- Rrburke (talk) 20:43, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are awesome! Thanks! Peace and good Regina

Glad to able to help.
For a few of the more common citation templates, see:
By the way, when signing a comment on a talk or user-talk page, just add four tildes in a row like this ~~~~: this will add your signature and a datestamp

Hmmmm -- didn't work. It said There are <ref> tags on this page, but the references will not show without a {{Reflist}} template or a <references/> tag;

Where should I paste the reference? Within anything? (I know enough HTML to be dangerous...)

Reginadoman (talk) 20:54, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The references go inline -- i.e. right in the body of the article. When you add the {{reflist}} section at the end, the references automatically show up there. -- Rrburke (talk) 20:57, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Pick any random article -- say, Abraham Lincoln. Click "edit" to look at the article source code -- you'll get the feel of it by seeing how it works in other articles.
I actually have to head of now and won't be back till later or possibly tomorrow. Leave me a message if you need help. Bye for now. -- Rrburke (talk) 21:01, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much! Have a good day! Reginadoman (talk) 21:05, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
