AWB Typo list 'import' feature
Hey, I hope I'm messaging the right person for this, and if not please let me know. Just today, I was making some changes to an AWB Typo list on another wiki, and I noticed that we had a massive list of typos that was listed under a section saying it was just a copy from the English Wikipedia. However, as with all copy/paste data, this kind of information is just a snapshot at one moment, and to keep the typo list up-to-date with useful additions on enwp, that requires copying over the full list every now and then. So, I got the idea that a kind of import feature for typos would be useful.
I've implemented a first working draft of a working feature on User:Joeytje50/RETF.js (the script used by JWB for typo fixing) where people can add a <Typo src="url"/>
to their wiki's typo list to import the list from that given URL. I put an example of this on this test wiki which works. I'm keeping this as an undocumented feature until there is support from at least AWB, so I'd like to discuss possible implementations of such a feature, and whether this even seems like a good idea.
Right now I've implemented the most basic working prototype where people literally have to enter the full API request URL. This URL has to be fairly lengthy because of JavaScript CORS restrictions, but I imagine just using ?action=raw
would work just fine when importing the Typos page for a downloaded application. So, probably a much more flexible implementation would be something like <Typo site="en.wikipedia.org" page="Project:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos"/>
which allows each individual application (AWB, JWB, WPCleaner, wikEd) to make their own implementation that gets the correct typo list. This also just looks a lot cleaner and more understandable for more users.
I'm curious what you and the rest of the AWB devs think of this, and if this sounds like a useful feature. Joeytje50 (talk) 21:32, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
French AWB Interface
Hi Reedy,
As a contributor to AWB on French Wikipedia, I'm trying to improve French users' experience. I would like to know if that's technically possible to add feature for translating the interface.
I didn't see any ticket from T169413's tracker related to translations, that's why I'm wondering.
I'm interested in translating into French, so let me know if I can help!

- It's technically possible, yup, and I thought we had some tasks for it (I can't see them at first glance), but it's not very easy to do without a load of prep work first (last time I looked, basically all the "text strings" need moving to whatever i18n/l10n format we are going to use, instead of being inline in code and designer files, and then update the code to actually use those...).
