Congratulations on your first Wikipedia article, List of the Presidents of the American Association of Immunologists, Reddingej! This is a very useful contribution. If you click on the "Related changes" button to the left of the article, it will enable you to track any changes made to the articles on these immunologists. I've asked the experts over at Wikiproject Medicine to see what they can do with the sourcing, so that it turns into an article on the organization itself, rather than just being a list. Thanks for your persistence on an important topic. We hope to see more of your edits on the medical articles! Djembayz (talk) 14:20, 5 July 2014 (UTC) |
Getting started out on editing ...
[edit]Adding new articles is a pretty challenging way to get started out on Wikipedia, because the editorial policy for new articles isn't immediately obvious. If you want to do a new article, the easy way is to ask for help from the people at the WikiProject on the topic.
You can add your name to the list over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine and you'll find a bunch of friendly, well-informed editors to help you out.
Adding the missing biographie of the immunologists on the list would be useful, if you are interested in writing them.
The easy way to learn how to edit is to add facts to existing articles. You can pick any less-commonly read source of breaking news, add a sentence stating a fact, and then add a citation for the fact from your source. To add citations, put these tags around the citation: <ref> [citation typed in here] </ref> . Even easier, go to the "Preferences" link at the top of your page, and click the box next to the Visual Editor. This will give you pop-up forms for citations.
You can see the "add facts from breaking news sources" strategy in action at the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak article. Go to the history tab, and look for my username, User:Djembayz in the edit summaries.
Obviously it would be preferable to have editors with a medical interest such as yourself updating these stories! Hope you'll be forgiving regarding having such an unnecessarily rough start on this site, and try your hand on a few more medical articles! Djembayz (talk) 14:37, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
