Page Preview
[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In the future, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made, reduces edit conflicts, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the article will look like without actually saving it.
It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance.
Note:Please use the Page Preview functions as often as you can. You are currently making numerous, small edits to the same article, which fills up both the article's history as well as all the watch pages of the editors watching the page. Instead of dozens of edits, one for each change, you should be able to make all these changes with one or two edits. This makes for less work for your fellow editors. Edit Summary
[edit]Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary.
Note: Since you joined Wikipedia, you have not added a single edit summary to any of the edits you've made. Please add a summary with every edit, as per the guideline. Thank you - theWOLFchild 01:43, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- I'd like to second the request for you to try to use edit summaries. Simply using "added heading" or "add wikilinks" makes it easier for other editors to review your changes. Also, please don't mark large edits like [1] as "minor". power~enwiki (π, ν) 21:17, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
sandbox
[edit]Hey, I see you've started using your sandbox. That's good. One minor misstep is you added an AfC tag, which is "Articles for Creation", but you're not creating a new article, you're proposing changes to an existing one. I see you copy and pasted the section you want to edit from the FBI article, which is the first step. You can then do pretty much anything you want to that content now, because it's in your sandbox. Once you've made whatever changes you wanted to make, and added whatever new sources you wanted to add, you then want to propose adding the newly edited section to it's original spot on the FBI page. You can do that in a couple ways, (neither of which is adding an AfC tag, so you can remove that). If the section isn't too large, you can just copy & paste it onto the FBI talk page, as basically an open request for feedback. Other editors can say they agree or disagree with it as is, or suggest changes. Or, you can leave it all in your sandbox and post a request on the FBI talk page for people to go to your sandbox and have a look. This is where pinging people can be useful, especially the editor that reverted your last changes. If you get stuck and need more help, check out the 'welcome' template I posted at the top of this page. You can post the "{{Help me}}" tag on this page, and someone will come by and help you out, or you can go to the Help Desk, Tea House or Village Pump and ask for help. Good luck. - theWOLFchild 18:39, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
