The article Ridgefield Academy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Does not seem to meet GNG (and not elgible for automatic school notability because it is not a secondary school;) written in a promotional tone
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. OSborn arfcontribs. 21:21, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Ridgefield Academy
[edit]Hi, thanks for contributing to Wikipedia's coverage of schools with the article Ridgefield Academy. However, Wikipedia has guidelines for what it includes, a major one being notability (the general notability guideline.) The established consensus is that primary schools such as Ridgefield are generally not notable, and are generally "redirected" or merged into the appropriate school district. As such, I have redirected the page to Ridgefield School District (Connecticut). OSborn arfcontribs. 21:52, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Ridgefield Academy is an "independent" school and thus NOT part of the Ridgefield School District. I would respectfully suggest that it's "notability" rests in its historic location (as the one time home of the Congregation de Notre Dame) and ask that you "unmerge" it from the Public sector.Rebecca.toon (talk) 21:57, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- I have changed the redirect to go to the city; you can revert my changes to the page (from this link) if you feel the school meets notability. Just a heads up that without sources talking about the school for its location it is probable the article will be nominated for deletion.
Incidentally, if you have a conflict of interest (this is a link to the Wikipedia policy about this), you are strongly recommended to not directly edit articles which you are affiliated with. OSborn arfcontribs. 22:04, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your help and advice (as well as the changed redirect). I will see what I can find insofar as "sources" go before I revert your changes. Thanks again. Rebecca.toon (talk) 22:11, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
RE: "Incidentally, if you have a conflict of interest (this is a link to the Wikipedia policy about this), you are strongly recommended to not directly edit articles which you are affiliated with" (Please bear with me as this may come across sounding rude/arrogant, and is absolutely NOT meant to be either...simply a request for advice/guidance) Are you implying here that there was something in my OP that indicated a COI? I feel very strongly that I provided only factual information regarding the school and its history - using a number of other schools (on wikipedia, ps-grade 8 based, not marked for deletion) as a model. Clearly this is a new arena for me, and I am failing to see the more subtle points of "wikipediaesque." Rebecca.toon (talk) 22:17, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- I said this mainly because of your username. In terms of promotional content, I think the lede of the article was OK, but mission statements are generally not in articles (this is a link to an essay about this.)
If you have any questions or concerns I'm happy to help out. OSborn arfcontribs. 22:25, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
