Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Realmomo, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Draft:Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

Again, welcome! 331dot (talk) 08:46, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Only part of the content was chosen from the language on the official website, but you went and deleted the draft directly, resulting in the direct deletion of the page I had been editing for a long time, and all my hard work was wasted. This is very upsetting, and makes a newcomer to Wikipedia feel cold! Realmomo (talk) 09:03, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry that you feel that way, but we must take copyright violations seriously, as they potentially put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are many ways to deal with this behavior, but the fact that you just deleted it without a reminder is chilling. Realmomo (talk) 09:07, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are more than welcome to create a draft about this university that summarizes what independent reliable sources choose on their own to say about it, showing how it is a notable organization, and does not lift content from its website. 331dot (talk) 09:09, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for the advice. Realmomo (talk) 09:37, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You're going to need sources other than those related to the university. If it's going to take time for you to find them, I would recommend that you allow the article to be placed in draft space so you can take all the time you need to work on it. You should also take care to write in a neutral point of view that does not talk up the university("Taking advantage of its unique geographical advantage of proximity to Hong Kong and Macao and its innovation strengths, Zhuhai Campus aims to build a southern highland for the training of excellent teachers"). Are you associated with this university in some way? 331dot (talk) 09:42, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If this was the first article that you created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

The page Draft:Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appeared to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appeared to be a direct copy from https://english.bnuzh.edu.cn/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition has been be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review. 331dot (talk) 08:46, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've rewritten most of it and the problem with these tags has been solved. Realmomo (talk) 10:29, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, the issues are not resolved. The article is entirely sourced to primary sources and is not a summary of what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the university, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable university.
Furthermore, as the university appears to be part of a larger organization, it could be that it does not merit a standalone article about it, and any information could go in the article about the larger organization. 331dot (talk) 10:33, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you missed when I asked earlier- are you associated with this university in some way? 331dot (talk) 10:33, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am an international student at this school, which is unique in that its campus is very distant from the main campus and therefore relatively independent. So it does merit a standalone article about it. Realmomo (talk) 10:38, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, then you need to locate independent reliable sources with significant coverage of your university that can be summarized in this article. To be a standalone article, those sources must discuss your campus as a distinct entity from the parent organization.
If it's going to take time for you to find sources, I highly advise you to consent to the article being moved to draft space so it is at much less risk of a deletion discussion. 331dot (talk) 10:44, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that you write "is a southern campus of the same level as Beijing campus, both of which are planned, progressed and presented as one university" is a very, very strong indicator that this campus does not merit a standalone article. 331dot (talk) 10:45, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think you misunderstand. The relationship between Beijing Normal University and Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai is similar to that between UC Berkeley and UCLA, but since they are within China, they issue the same diploma, and even so, many of their institutions are relatively independent. They have a very special relationship. Realmomo (talk) 10:57, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your analogy is not the sense I'm getting from what you are writing. UCLA and Berkeley are both state institutions answerable to the same state body(Regents of the University of California) but issue their own diplomas and are operated as separate organizations. You seem to be saying that this university is one of two campuses of the same larger university- akin to two separate Walmart stores. 331dot (talk) 11:11, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my US state we have the University of Southern Maine; it has three campuses, but each campus does not have a separate article. 331dot (talk) 11:13, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the two campuses of this university are far apart, similar to how one university is in New York and one is in Los Angeles, and those are their campuses. Because of this, they are relatively independent in many areas. But in China, the situation is special, they are issuing the same diploma. The situation is similar to "Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen". Since I am an international student, I may not be able to say it well enough. Realmomo (talk) 11:28, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case, then you should be writing less about how it is part of a larger university and more about how it is important as a distinct topic, summarizing sources that discuss this campus as a distinct topic. Again, if that's going to take time, the article should be in draft space. 331dot (talk) 11:30, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK,I got it. Realmomo (talk) 11:34, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
