Nice work!

- I just saw your message on my page. The best way to find free images for recent subjects is to look through flickr. To start, it's easiest to look for photos that are already freely licensed, which you can do by selecting settings in "advanced search", which gives you these results. I haven't looked through all of them yet, but I'm not particularly optimistic that there will be much more, after looking through some of them. The next step is looking through non-freely-licensed images for good ones and asking the photographers if they would be willing to relicense them. (I'd say my success rate here is about 50%.) For Michael Jackson this is hard, because http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=michael+jackson comes up with 18,000 results. Most of them are people pretending to be Michael Jackson, copyrighted photos wrongly posted, and wax Michael Jacksons, but a few of them are the real thing. Looking through a couple pages of results I found this and this. I doubt that there will be anything better from the 1990s, because generally people only upload digital photos--it's much less common to see anything taken before 2000 or so. I'd have a look through the images and if you see any you'd like to request the author relicense, let know know. Calliopejen1 (talk) 22:09, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- Comments on the images: the first is clearly a copyvio, so that doesn't work. The fourth is a photo of a television, so that doesn't work either (the copyright holder is the TV network, not the photographer). The middle two probably work. The Netherlands has generous freedom of panorama laws, so a photo of a work of art that is permanently located in a public space may be freely licensed. Do you know if this statue is intended to be there indefinitely, or if it was just a temporary installation? Calliopejen1 (talk) 23:53, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for the slow response, I often get distracted. I also needed a bit of time to think over what to do, because if the sculpture was only there temporarily it doesn't come within the freedom of panorama provisions. I found another photo of the statue in 2008 (nonfree, linked from the image page), so I think this indicates with reasonable certainty that this statue is a permanent installation. Anyways with that assurance I cropped the photo and uploaded it as Image:Michael Jackson sculpture.jpg. Happy editing! Calliopejen1 (talk) 06:27, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- PS it's a good photo, but it probably isn't FP caliber. It's not that striking visually (crop is too tight, lighting is not quite ideal), and technically not fantastic either (there's some purple fringing around the edges of the statue, etc). Calliopejen1 (talk) 06:29, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Congrats. Your hard work finally paid off. I'm glad that you stuck in there. I hope you decide to stick around the FAC process and review other upcoming pages. You surely know a lot about what is good and what is bad in the FA process by now. Ottava Rima (talk) 23:30, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Honorifics in popular music
[edit]I agree that the Notes section is unnecessary; it bears very little relation to the theme of the article and is bait for deletionists. Suggest you seek consensus one way of the other but the next Afd may not be so lenient ("Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information"..) --Rodhullandemu 16:54, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
74.68.132.134 a stalker?
[edit]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/74.68.132.134
This anonymous user seems to be stalking me again, following me to pages I edit, threatening to block me, and reverting my edits (which I have sought consensus for on the talk pages) without discussion.
Please take a look at his edit history. He seems: a) obsessed with accusing people of being Keetoowah socks, and b) obsessed with undoing edits I make. END OF LIST.
He's an anonymous user with a history of bulk-reverting without a shred of discussion, and I don't like the fact that he's obviously stalking me (probably still thinking I'm Keetoowah). If his edit history had any constructive edits, or that 99% of his activity on here weren't focused on myself and Keetoowah, I'd just ignore him. But this user is obsessed and destructive and doesn't have the courtesy to register a name (and I know he's reading this...and why not? He obviously checks my contributions page for new material. Hi stalker!).
And I'm sorry to bother you with this, but you at least have some knowledge of this guy's history. Thanks. Ynot4tony2 (talk) 17:28, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Subtle suggestion
[edit]You might want to edit out support #4 sooner rather than later; if it's still in the recent history (eg, the month or so back that most RFA reviewers check) that will insta-fail any RFA run. – iridescent 15:38, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Lol, I completely forgot about that thing down there, it was meant more as a joke than anything, I don't actually expect 45 people to add their names to that god damn list. Nice to see you back at wikipedia. While you were away, look what I did to the Michael Jackson article. — Realist2 (Speak) 15:48, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well done on that. If you can keep it stable for a year, I imagine it's a shoo-in for the main page for the 30th anniversary of Off The Wall (or the release date of the new album if it ever appears); if so, he may join Israel as an exception to the "main page content is never protected" rule. – iridescent 16:08, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, I've had strong doubts about a new album any time soon. It's been talked about in tabloids since 2006 with no real confirmation. However, recently my opinion has started to change, a lot of artists are coming out saying "I'm working on MJ's new album", think about it, they have no reason to lie. We must wait and see. Really I'm not looking forward to it. Reviews will be unfair (they will concentrate on his personality), the media will call it a flop unless it beats the sales of Thriller (something that no1 will ever do). It will probably sell 7-10 million copies, huge in today's market, but the tabloids will spin it as a flop. As for the main page, I will strongly oppose it unless it has some form of protection. — Realist2 (Speak) 16:19, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think it'll happen – he needs the money after recent events, and any putative comeback tour would make more sense with a product to promote – but I suspect it will be horribly bland (as with everything post-Dangerous). I'd guess the delays are down to the will-they-won't-they discussions about whether it's to be solo or a resurrected Jackson 5 and/or including Janet.
- If it does go on the main page unprotected, I suspect the bulk of problems won't come from "he is a pervert" vandals, but from obsessive fans like this.
- Incidentally, the 1980s section doesn't mention 2300 Jackson Street – is that intentional? – iridescent 16:35, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- I won't say bland, his biggest problem is that his recent albums have been too long (although this wasn't a problem on Dangerous). HIStory and Invincible had too many fillers, he should really keep it short and sweat, no songs to complain about. Still, his back-catalog outsells Prince and Madonna but the tabloids forget to mention this, a huge achievement considering his image problems, he has a strong fan base. I think a lot of people will buy it just to hear what he has to say, about his trial etc etc (he still hasn't really acknowledged the trial occurred). Lol, that link you showed me, I think that kid has a few issues. As for that 2300 album, MJ had such little involvement in it, it's not worth a mention. I will add it to the Jackson 5/Jackson's article (I plan to get that to GA at some point). — Realist2 (Speak) 16:50, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- BTW, something that probably noone but me will notice but seems a bit odd (as you may have noticed, I tend to focus on niggling trivia); is the statement "The idea came to Jackson while working on the hit single "Say Say Say" with McCartney a few years prior" (about the Northern Songs purchase) accurate? Surely by the time of SSS they'd already have been familiar with each other from TGIM? Or was SSS recorded prior to Thriller and held back? – iridescent 21:05, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Help with music sources
[edit]Hi there. I am writing an article, and what I've done so far is here: Book of Love (album). Unfortunately, since it's an old album, I am having a real hard time finding good sources. There's no 'limited preview' books listed in Google Books which mention the album or its singles, nothing substantial comes up when searching on Thomson Gale's databases, and dozens of web searches have not yielded much either. Searches on Rolling Stone and NME did not bring up anything. Do you know of where I can look to find some sources for this? I'd be most grateful if you have any ideas. Thanks, — Wackymacs (talk ~ edits) 06:14, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- You have two problems here, first, it is quite old, second, it wasn't very successful. More than twenty years later, it will be hard to find info. I will keep a look out though. — Realist2 (Speak) 16:02, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

LGBT Project Banners
[edit]Hi, Realist! I saw the note (that you removed) from the WT:LGBT and thought I'd drop by with an explanation. I have been reviewing all the articles in Category:Unassessed LGBT articles, and assessing where appropriate. In my review, I've noticed a lot of articles where User:User0529 added the WikiProject banner, often with an "explanation" that "This person is an icon in the homosexual community." The discussion that's been going on at the project talk page leaves room for gay icons to be part of the project, but I don't believe *everyone* who has once been called a gay icon (eg: Superman) needs to be within the project.
If there are particular articles that you feel really ought to be part of the project, please bring them up - I'm fallible :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 03:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, the date is actually to remind myself of the most important date associated with the article, for WP:TFA. So, that date would be the date of the discovery of the first noble gas; once the article is TFA, then I will change the date appropriately and link it. Cheers! Coaching
[edit]I was a little confused there for a second when the header on your note on my talk page was "Couch" instead of "Coach", but I got the gist of it after the first sentence. Anyway, I have begun a new method of coaching, I call it "Editor Coaching" instead of "Admin Coaching". Basically it just takes a different angle. I just finished up coaching User:Gears of War, so we can proceed with editor coaching whenever you would like. You can see what we did here. Useight (talk) 23:01, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

IP range and a little something for your efforts
[edit]I'll have someone look at those IP ranges; unfortunately I don't understand range-blocks, nor would I know how to implement them. The Meta page goes over my head somewhat! I also noticed today that Michael Jackson was a FA, and I just wanted to congratulate you on your supreme efforts with that page over the last year or so. You've probably had loads of these, but I just wanted to offer my own. Great work! PeterSymonds (talk) 03:06, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

- Please do, that IP range is arbitrarily changing genres without so much as edit summaries or talk page reasoning. He has been at it for months. Unfortunately it took me a long time to catch on and notice it was all coming from the same place. He won't stop unless he's forced, he's been doing it at the "Loose (album)" for months. When an article is protected he comes back when the protection ends. Thank you for the BarnStar, much appreciated, I have more FA articles in the works. :-) Let me know what happens with this IP stuff if anything. Cheers Peter. — Realist2 03:15, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
List of artists who reached number one in the United States
[edit]Looks good to me - much better title. Yes, I saw the article/link you sent - I wouldn't say that they "scrubbed him off the list".... they're celebrating the Hot 100's 50th anniversary so I think for the sake of being accurate they aren't counting pre-Hot 100 stats. Most historians would still credit Presley with 17, which is fine when looking at the bigger picture of the Rock Era. Anyhoo, thanks for moving the page. - eo (talk) 16:22, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, MCarey will prob eventually overtake the Beatles (sadly..... personally I cannot stand to even look at her, much less listen to her "music"). Would rather someone like Madonna do it, although I don't think that will ever happen. Ah well, such is life. - eo (talk) 17:05, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Song title capitalization
[edit]I just did that so it would match the other tracklists that had Give In To Me, Black Or White, etc... But now I've done it the other way around, so that all the "or", "the", "in" and similar words in all tracklists appear in lowercase. Thanks for the offer to join the Michael Jackson WikiProject, but I don't think I'd have the time to do it. - Aphasia83 (talk) 16:00, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, so the "In" shall be capitalized. Didn't know that. - Aphasia83 (talk) 16:03, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sure a song will be added to the final UK tracklist, most likely the "Thriller Megamix", seeing as it's included on all the other editions.- Aphasia83 (talk) 17:09, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. I've replied to your comment on WP:AN. Once again, my apologies for being too heavy handed and more so for not discussing it with you first, especially since the article is such a good one. Keep up the good work. Craigy (talk) 10:33, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm suprised you don't already have this particular star.
[edit]The Excellent Userpage Award | ||
Your userpage is one of the best I've seen yet. I am sure you take great pride in it, looking at all the coding involved, it's all french to me! Therefore I have no regrets in awarding you this barnstar! A ProdigyTalk 09:07, 13 August 2008 (UTC) |
- Cheers, replied at your page. :-) — Realist2 15:46, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- "Cheers, were you talking about my current signature? I've had others and mines only been like this for a few weeks. — Realist2." I'm sorry but I don't quite follow, I was talking about your userpage. I didn't refer to your signature anywhere. Or did you infact mean to say userpage instead of signature? A ProdigyTalk 19:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- He he, no problems. I'm still suprised you didn't get this award earlier from some other keen observer! A ProdigyTalk 19:56, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for recommending him! I had been pondering ever since I joined, the question of how I could make my userpage any good. Let alone how I could bear letting others see it XD. A ProdigyTalk 20:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
"Mariah" - Response
[edit]Here's the source. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,353538,00.html On my talk page you stated "Provide me with a reliable source for mariah being called the queen of pop." Now that I have, it would be very nice if you would fulfill your part of the agreement and, "happily help write a strong paragraph for/with" ME. ---¤÷(`[¤*M*¤]´)÷¤- 17:41, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
For once, something from me unrelated to Huggle, problem users, or Michael Jackson
[edit]Am I right in thinking that you speak fluent Latin-American Spanish? Be warned that if you say yes, you may well be pestered into source-checking on Elena Roger when I get around to rescuing it from its current fancrufty state. (I'm not surprised the en-wiki article is so poor; I'm extremely surprised the es-wiki version is). – iridescent 20:25, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well there are many different varieties of spanish amongst the sub cultures, but generally I can get my head around most of them. It shouldn't be a problem. — Realist2 20:31, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Wow. You have CHANGED. Man I just don't have time for Wikipedia. All I do is Quantum Mechanics and what-not Mechanics.. Hope to be back some day.. Σαι ( Talk) 05:15, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Man, everyone is leaving wikipedia on the MJ project, we won't have many editors at this rate. :-( See the wikiproject talk page :-). — Realist2 05:18, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

- Cool, hey I need a favor, can you come check the Marvin Gaye article? I need help with that article too with sources and stuff like that, lol. Compared to Michael Jackson's and The Supremes' articles, it looks kindergarten, lol. BrothaTimothy (talk · contribs) 05:52, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I might just do that. I have to look to my fellow MG fans for book references to use for the article. :) If you wanna be a member of this Marvin Gaye board, go here: [1]. :-) BrothaTimothy (talk · contribs) 07:50, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks...and I'll do it. :) BrothaTimothy (talk · contribs) 16:21, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Janet
[edit]I assume you know it was nominated. This is a 'just in case'. Ceoil sláinte 20:06, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I am aware, it's very unlikely that I will comment on it though, I helped get it to GA and I created the Janet Jackson wikiproject, it would look wrong if I supported. ;-/ I quite busy in real life at the moment, it's unlikely that I would be able to give it a strong read until after the 20th anyway. — Realist2 20:15, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Fine. The Supreams is looking good bty, had a decent ce today from Maralia. Ceoil sláinte 20:33, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, it really needs closing now, delisting would be silly. — Realist2 20:39, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Assuming this comment is directed towards me (and please correct me if I'm wrong): I thought we'd cleared this up? I gave you my apology and was under the impression that you accepted it. Although you've obviously given your reasons to oppose Choess' RfA, surely you should concentrate more on the nominee and not on the nominator, which, in my opinion, entails omitting any grudges you have against such nominators. If you still feel bitter about the supposedly resolved issue, feel free to leave comments on my talk page (with or without obsceneties - I don't mind if it helps). Craigy (talk) 02:24, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Co nom's are designed to help RfA's pass, well they can/should also cause them to fail. Co nom's don't work one way, they don't/shouldn't only work in the candidates favor. I don't approve of your editing style so I have every right to be afraid of having another admin that is an incarnation of yourself. Irrelevant of your nomination, the candidate would still fall short of meeting my criteria (which you can view at the bottom of my user page).I don't hold a grudge against you, but I know you to have poor judgment and poor communication skills at times. I think the candidate might have similar issues. — Realist2 02:35, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
The #11 entry is self conflicting. You are saying you would auto oppose people who vote correctly on rfa questions. -- Cat chi? 17:57, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Cheers, clarified that. Thank you. — Realist2 18:02, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Your RfA Criteria
[edit]Hi, Realist2. Thank you for your message on my talk page.
I want to comment on your RFA Criteria.
- You want an editor to have been at least 4 months since prior unsuccessful RfA attempt. I think you should reduce it to 3 months. Most people try after three months.
- You want an editor to significantly contribute to 3 GA's or 1 FA. What about DYKs? An editor may have only one GA, but she may have 15 to 20 DYKs. Also GAs and FAs are not everything. There are many articles which are far below average. We should also improve them. I think you should be a little flexible.
- You want an editor to have at least 1750 main space edits. I think you should increase that to 2500 to 3000 main space edits. In the past, I've supported editors who have about 1000 main space edits. And those RFAs were successful. I think that was unfair. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Main space edits are the most important thing.
- You want an editor to be civil with people of other culture. That’s very good. I’m not from the English speaking parts of the world. That’s a very good point.
I also feel that editors whose first language is not English have disadvantages in RFA. It may be slightly harder for people whose first language is not English to express their views freely in RFA. I think you first language is English. If you were to express your views in a pressure situation in your second language, you may not be able to express yourself freely.
Your RFA criteria are strict. I think you should be a little flexible.
And I’m glad to know that you’ve liberal views. I’m a Humanist and I also have liberal views. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 09:08, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your message. I'm glad to know that English is your second language. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 02:52, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. I will think about an article. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 03:32, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ok. I will contact you on August 21, 2008. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 03:39, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi Realist2, I was wondering how long this article had been under protection and if there was any chance if would come off in the future. I am sure its a vandalism magnet but was wondering. I didn't read through all the talk page history, sorry. I saw the copy right issue with the British paper. Good luck and thank you. --70.181.45.138 (talk) 13:10, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- Woops, just saw your wikibreak notice, sorry. I hope you have a pleasant break. Cheers, --70.181.45.138 (talk) 13:12, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

- No, problem, every little helps. :-) — Realist2 16:40, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
My RfA
[edit]Realist2, thank you for your contribution to the discussion at my recent RfA. I appreciate the helpful feedback, and that I would do well to work at bringing some articles to GA or FA if I'm going to be a more well-rounded editor. If ever you have any concerns about my actions, adminly or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. Best wishes, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 17:24, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
