Hurricane tracks

[edit]

Please upload over the existing track image instead of uploading to a new file name. We had a real problem last year with people littering old images all over the place. -- Cyrius| 16:43, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And both Cyrius and I are admins, so there's no problem. Better to be a few minutes late than to get into the confusion of multiple images. Also... "10 PM"? :P --Golbez 00:22, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

Hurricane Emily

Glad I could be of service. - Mgm|(talk) 15:04, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting that page – you got there before I could! I was just merging the page history with the 21 July 2005 London bombings article, and history mergers initially display the final version of the page which is being merged in. Warofdreams 16:31, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

T.S. Irene

[edit]

well, i mean no offense to the petty edit thing, yet something so small (not a type-o) just induced a little quip from that's all. Yet i'm sure there's so many more terms that we use as conventional abrreviations that are norm, hence why i used hrs. Other examples include mph, mmb and so forth.Boort 03:31, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's ok, no harm done. Anyway, it's true we do use abbreviations like mph, km/h, and more, but when they're typed out in full they look bad. Plus, it would get annoying having to type "miles per hour" "kilometers per hour", etc all the time ;) -- RattleMan 03:41, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So, Rattleman what else tickles your fancy on wiki? You're 18, so i gather you're about the age for one who's about to enter college. Fan of hockey at all, I'd gather with Gretzky taking the coaching job for the coyotes ought to spark a little interest down there... Boort 03:52, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, yes. I'm actually still in high school, but this is my last year (senior). The reason for this is because I started pre-school one or two years late (can't remember). Something my mom wanted, I have no clue why. Well, my main focus right now most definitely is hurricane seasons. In the past few days, I even wrote articles for 1894–1900's hurricane seasons. When I'm not editing hurricane seasons, I'm clicking the "Random article" button looking for articles that could be improved. When I'm not on Wikipedia, I'm chatting with friends and browsing other sites. I'm interested in Gretzky being coach, because I used to be a big fan when I lived in Colorado. Also, good luck on graduating from university ;) -- RattleMan 04:07, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen the early hurricane seasons, and have been trying to get around to do some edits on them as well, kinda unchartered territory, and are good little project. Love all kinds of weather stuff. Also, kinda bitter about the Colorado Avalanche... despite their having such great players, it was quite the stinker losing the team from Quebec and having them win the cup in their inaugural season. I live and breathe hockey, and yes, one day, one day, Toronto WILL win the cup.Boort 04:13, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

ah... excellent rattleman... thankfully there are good hearted people on wiki... i'm trying not to get into a war with that e.brown kid. i know in wikiquette it says to try and not get int o with people, so i tried to resolve the issue with that kid in a non-confrontational type of way... should prolly get around to moving it to his discussion page.

by the way, let me know what projects you ever need a hand with, would be more than willing to lend a hand. Boort 06:36, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for the compliment on 1906 Atlantic hurricane season. I've always been very proud of my work. My writing skills have often been commended. I intend to pursue my writing passion further as I get older. I also like the addition you made to it. You're right, the most notable storm does often deserve a seperate paragraph.

Miscellaneous

[edit]

Hello rattleman. um was just wondering how exactly it is when you say i'm acting in such a way. Can a person not edit their talk page according to their preferences?.. Also, whoever said i was a he? It seems as though people are ganging up on me here, i'm just tryin to make edits, yes i took some things a little the wrong way, but have never made a deragatory remark to anyone.. (RattleMan's comment: For anyone casually reading this, I did not call this person the following names, another person did.) here i've been called donkeyhole, idiot, moron, jerk and for what reason? Boort 01:58, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

no worries mate, it's that those 2 are engaging in a witch hunt against me when the only so called personal attacks perpetrated by me were not getting the kid's age right by 2 months and telling a person to get a life after they told me to make sure my panties didn't get all tied up or something along that sort. I've been very careful in what adjectives i use here. I like to keep my discussion pages clean for easy reference. If i need to look back on something, being able to find something that the great zo told me about an article, vs something someone posted not article related. that's merely the mindset behind it. Will be interesting to track ophelia's progress the next couple days eh? cheers! Boort 02:28, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WP:LAME reversion

[edit]
(RattleMan's comment: I added some text to WP:LAME, and Calton made another edit right after me, and when I looked at the differences ([1]), I saw my edit colorcoded, so I wondered what Calton changed in there.)

I reverted the fingerpointing in one of the listings. I actually used a previous version of the page and pasted in your correction because it was easier that way. --Calton | Talk 07:20, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion process

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you seem to be having some problems submitting an artilce to AfD. I took the liberty of removing the Speedy delete tag that you ended up inserting as the patent nonsense category is meant for literal gibberish. I then completed the AfD that you had started on the article. You can see the end result by visiting List of Dragonrock Episodes and following the link to the AfD article. You might find it helpful to read Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How to list pages for deletion for instructions on how to complete an AfD.

If you have a problem with my actions, or any questions, then please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. --GraemeL (talk) 01:37, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image 067cream.jpg

[edit]

Hi, Rattle, I'm LiniShu, and I've been assisting with the Category:Images with unknown source project. An image that you uploaded on 8-Sept-2005, File:067cream.jpg, was tagged on 6-Oct-2005 as "no-source", i.e. having no information on it's source. Would you be able to add a note to the description page about where you obtained the image? Also, it appears that you may have attempted to place a Template:CopyrightedFreeUse tag on the image description page, but it actually only appears in the upload edit summary. You may want to go ahead and place the FreeUse template on the description page as I presume you intended to, but in addition you may be asked to provide more specific information about the copyright status of this image. Anyway, in conclusion, under the new CSD policy, images without a listed source can be speedy deleted within 7 days of being tagged as "no source", so we are notifying you in order to allow you some time to provide more info on the image. Thanks! Your contributions to Wikipedia related to storms/hurricanes, and anime are appreciated, and we thank you in advance for taking a look again at the info for the 067cream image. --LiniShu 04:36, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that was a fast response! Yes, I thought, by looking at your other stuff, that the missing info on 067cream.jpg might have been an oversight. And, regarding the notification, you're very welcome! :) Cheers, LiniShu 04:49, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Deletion Process (Again)

[edit]

I would probably list it as non-ecyclopedic and original research. Go ahead and try the instructions that I posted a link to on your talk page the last time. I'll keep an eye on it and tidy up if you get it wrong. --GraemeL (talk) 13:53, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You got it right 1st time. Easy when you know how. --GraemeL (talk) 14:03, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RattleMan, thank you for reverting the vandalism to 2005 Kashmir earthquake. I wonder if you would be kind enough to indicate which version you are reverting to in the summary? That makes it easier to follow what was done. Also, in this case, you reverted 155.69.5.236 and deleted the text edit of Matau. Two summaries in the history, e.g., "rv 155.69.5.236" and "deleted This earthquake MOVED them!", might have been more clear. BTW, good edits. "This earthquake MOVED them!" while true, doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. Thank you. -Walter Siegmund 16:35, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sonic the Hedgehog

[edit]

Good job keeping an eye on those Sonic articles. With all those wild edits. There's one guy who insists on changing that Chaotix backstory *every* goddamn time... I suppose that's one of the drawbacks of Wikipedia. Not that I consider my own writing so superior to anyone else' of course, heh. I'm pretty satisfied about the Sonic 1 & 2 articles so far. I don't know if you noticed but I expanded Sonic Spinball as well. I'm still meaning to rewrite parts of S&K and Sonic 3 somewhere in the future, but I'm busy improving the Shinobi series right now :) Cheers --Steerpike 18:20, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Deleted Image

[edit]

It was a mistake. An accident. A cockup. We all make them. There's bugger all I can do to fix it, however, bar listing it on Wikipedia:Lost images. I've made a note to take care in future, to be sure this doesn't happen again. Rob Church Talk | FAHD 20:54, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

155mph winds?

[edit]

You wrote that a recon flight found 155mph (flight-level?) winds in Wilma. Where's the source for this? Jdorje 08:17, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Alignment

[edit]
(RattleMan's comment: This person keeps putting images in the wrong places, and is reverted by others every time. The "group" has not expressed that they don't like it on the left.)

Then stop changing it! You already discussed with the group and we have expressed that we don't like it on the left! So you stop it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.189.156.178 (talkcontribs)

Bret Image

[edit]

I have nominated your image Bret-6-29-05-1245z.jpg for deletion because it is almost an exact duplicate of Bret-6-29-05-1915z.jpg. They are even tha same size. Just letting you know so you can raise objections if you wish. Miss Michelle | Talk to Michelle 21:16, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

piconly infoboxes

[edit]

Yeah, I noticed (it is worst for 1885). My first thought was just that some more text needed to be written for each year. Another option is to alternate the boxes but I'm pretty sure this would require changing the template (with a new parameter). It's going to be much more of a problem once the infoboxes aren't "piconly" (but there will be other problems too...like the 5seasons entries which shouldn't be included in collective-season articles). Jdorje 08:00, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

(RattleMan's comment: I had made this edit in Current events,
and it corresponds to the topic below. Unfortunately, I have no info as of yet.)

90 mph = 150 km/h

[edit]

80 knots = 92 mph = 148.1 km/h

But people are going to keep making corrections as long as this "hidden" rounding is taking place. I'm not sure what we can do about it. Maybe list the exact values (92 mph and 148 km/h) even though it's only accurate to the nearest 5 knots (5.75 mph...9.25 km/h)...

Jdorje 21:37, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, what's the knot->mph conversion rate? I thought it was a flat 1.15 (from knot (speed)), but you're using something slightly different (80 * 1.15 = 92 exactly). Jdorje 22:22, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Another odd thing about it is that some values in mph will never be shown. 145 knots is 165 mph, but 150 knots is 175 mph. No NHC advisory will ever say 170 mph. Jdorje 22:23, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RattleMan. Thanks for the help and pointers. Cheers --Bookandcoffee 02:52, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rattleman, I see you've edited Ultra Maniac before. Could you check the 4 November edit – I have no idea if it's valid, but that IP hasn't made any legit edits that I can see. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 08:41, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To Rattleman

[edit]
(RattleMan's comment: ...oh boy. Note to anyone casually reading this:
1) Anything legit anyone puts on my talk page is kept (except if it's vandalism).
2) I have no clue what went on here, the person who wrote this message did not sign their messages and put the separate paragraphs all into different categories (==the type you get when you use these==), which I merged.
3) The person who wrote the following things addressed in this message was inserting childish and useless things into the articles, including "possible boyfriends", which is not encyclopediac, and at least 15 quotes which were inserted possibly out of context to anyone who doesn't know the series well.
4) The following message was written by 71.105.14.168 (talk · contribs).
5) I will read all these complaints and address them BY PARAGRAPH in an indented, red-colored comment.
Onto the comments! -- RattleMan 01:41, 12 November 2005 (UTC))[reply]

I know you won't like hearing this, but why did you get rid of my Amy's Possible Boyfriend section? I very well believe that it's okay for readers to know who Amy possibly likes or will date. Of course, Eggman may not be one of them, but I was being neutral. I spent like thirty minutes to write the whole thing and you go and erase it! I am refraining myself from capitalizing my words which normally means that I'm screaming at you. And those 15 or more quotes are not useless. They are true in the game and if you haven't noticed, people keep writing quotes of Amy talking to Sonic (or at least about him). So my sister wrote some not all about Sonic, Sonic, Sonic! And could you at least consider that I took thirty minutes or longer for everything? I mean at least be considerate! And if you do that again, I am so going after you, Rattleman!

  • 1) Adding "possible boyfriends" is completely opinionated and not suited for the article. Current boyfriends, like SONIC (although he sort of likes to avoid her), is actual fact and can be inserted.
  • 2) You inserted at least 15 quotes which were multiple sentences long, possibly out of context for anyone who isn't familiar with the series, and not important to the article.
  • 3) I understand you're trying to help Wikipedia, and I thank you for that. Just look around and see what other people do (but not the vandals) and edit like them.
  • 4) Some other people have reverted you also.
  • Please don't edit this page until I'm done responding to all the paragraphs. That way it is easier.

Rattle Boy! You are getting on my last nerve! You, again, got rid of my Sonic quotes! They are not badly edited and if you play the game, then you would see that he says those things. Now stop that! Cut it out! If you don't, you're gonna get what's coming to you!

  • 1) Again, I felt that those quotes had the same problem with them (see response #2 in the first paragraph response)
  • PLEASE, do not edit until I'm done responding to ALL the paragraphs. It makes it hard for me to respond.

I saw you use some bad, offensive language, Rattle Boy. Don't you remember that Wikipedia rules saying that little kids are reading this? Also, refrain from shouting for the rules also state that you should not capitalize letters for it means you're yelling. Now then, you could've kept the part about Rouge and Bokkun. Bokkun did work with Rouge for a locket or something. And if he didn't use sleeping powder, what is it? You have the Japanese version or something, Rattle boy?

  • 1) By offensive language do you mean in the edit summary I wrote "HOLY CRAP"? That was (I think) in response to an edit in which you added (among other things) that "It's good Bokkun got messed up in that sleeping powder bit!" or something like that. That is not the way it happened in the original Japanese version (see here for more info), and was opinionated (NPOV) by using the word "I". (SPOILERS AHEAD: DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU WANT SONIC X SPOILED FOR YOU)That locket is Bokkun's, and it holds a picture of Cream inside (Bokkun secretly loves her), and Rouge is forcing him into doing what she wants or else his secret will get out.

By the way, you spelled whoa wrong. Whoa, whoa, whoa, bad spelling edits! Or shall I say, woah, woah, woah, bad spelling edits!

  • It can be spelt either way. Woah...Whoa!

Guess what Rattle? I saw on the internet that a user's friend lives in Japan and has Sonic Adventure 3. She says that there's Tikal in there. So while there may be no Sonic Adventure 3 in U.S., it might import one of these days.

  • I am part of an extensive Sonic community monitoring everything there is to know about Sonic. There is no information that a Sonic Adventure 3 is already out, or is coming out. You can't trust everything you hear on the Internet, either.

Do you agree with me that Rattle Boy is messing up?

  • I think this was a part of a different section named "To 66.189.156.178". Is 66.189.156.178 monitoring this page too?

I've seen that you made lots of edits and I would like to see some of them. I found an article where there a bunch of mistakes, but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it. So I would like to see how good you edit things.

  • Sure, see here for my edits.
  • I'm sorry if I made you mad. I was somewhat attacking you by reverting you. I just felt that those edits weren't good enough or beneficial to the article. I'll TRY work with you from now on. You may respond now.

Okay. And yes, I meant that offensive thing. And why don't you put that Cream-Bokkun thing in Bokkun's article? And how are you part of an extensive Sonic community?

  • I don't put that in the article because it could give away the story too much (spoilers). I am part of an extensive Sonic community in that I browse MANY Sonic websites and Sonic forums where experts in the field (like me) congress and chat on the Sonic happenings.
