Thank you for all the info, I'm sure I will hang around, just have to learn how all this works and how to use Wiki pages correctly. So, I have a question: If I create a user Randy Allen page which is a Stage Name and the artist real name is Different do I create the page and state that the artist real name is so and so... example: wiki page is Randy Allen Randall Wayne Cooke ( born Nov. 25, 1966 ) Would this be correctly put to state who the artist really is and explain how it came to be to change his name? {{Randy Allen (talk) 16:18, 6 October 2017 (UTC)}}
- Hi, and welcome! If you want to write an article, I would recommend you first read Your First Article, then use the Article Wizard. In answer to your question, the Wikipedia policy about article names is WP:COMMONNAME, which says that you should "use commonly recognizable names". For example, the article name is Bono, not Paul Hewson. That article then starts with "Paul David Hewson, OL (born 10 May 1960), known by his stage name Bono..." So I believe you are correct in your suggestion. In another matter, I note that your username is the same as the name of the person you wish to write about. So I would like to ask if you are wishing to write about yourself? If so, you should know about Wikipedia's policy on conflicts of interest (COIs) - basically, "do not edit Wikipedia in your own interests or in the interests of your external relationships". You can find more help for editors with COIs here. You may wish to request that someone else writes the article for you. If you need any more help, you can , or just leave a message on my talk page. Speedy deletion nomination of User:Randy Allen
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:Randy Allen, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of https://store.cdbaby.com/Artist/RandyAllen. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Writing about yourself
[edit]You are welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, but it is not a social media site like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles. Writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.
Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social networking sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:
"Wikipedians have individual user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to work on the encyclopedia. Limited autobiographical information is allowed, but user pages do not serve as personal webpages, blogs, or repositories for large amounts of material irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you want to post your résumé or make a personal webpage, please use one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account. The focus of user pages should not be social networking or amusement, but rather providing a foundation for effective collaboration. Humorous pages that refer to Wikipedia in some way may be created in an appropriate namespace. Personal web pages are often speedily deleted."
You can find out more about Wikipedia at the WP:Welcome page and the WP:Introduction, as well as Wikipedia's plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Thanks. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:12, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Randy Allen, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Dlohcierekim (talk) 23:17, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

2 problems. You appear to be writing an article about your self. You have created what looks like an article on your user page. Are you Randy Allen. Creating autobiographies is discouraged. New articles need to go through WP:AfC. You need to follow those instructions. I will move your user page to Draft space, the preferred location for creating new articles. Thanks.Dlohcierekim (talk) 03:39, 6 October 2017 (UTC) <<ec>> 4 problems. This reads like an advertisement. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. All information requires citations of information from WP:RS. Please see WP:GNG for more information. As it is tagged for deletion, I will not move it to Draft space. Sorry. It needs to be rewritten from scratch. I recommend following the WP:AfC process. Dlohcierekim (talk) 03:44, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
Self-promotion
[edit]Self-promotion is against Wikipedia policy, so please do not place promotional material on your user page. Continuing to do so will result in a loss of editing privileges. Thank you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 03:40, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
this is important. it appeared over the edit box before you edited your user page
[edit]"If you want to draft an article, please create a userspace draft instead of creating it here."
Please do not attempt to create another iteration of the article on your user space page`. Please read the messages left above this one.Dlohcierekim (talk) 03:53, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the info, sorry. Just trying to create a artist history page for Randy Allen like example Country Artist ( Alan Jackson )
Speedy Deletion of Randy Allen
[edit]Sorry, was thinking I was creating an info page for the history on Artist Randy Allen like example (Alan Jackson) Country Artist Randy Allen (talk) 04:38, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
- Are you Randy Allen himself? If so, you need to read this and this. Wikipedia highly discourages users from writing about themselves.
- If you are not him, then you need to read this. Wikipedia does not allow users to have accounts that impersonate a specific, identifiable person. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 06:48, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, Randy Allen, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Randall Cooke (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who use multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. Drm310 🍁 (talk) 08:14, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, you can remove the account Randall Cooke. The page I was intending to create was for artist Randy Allen and wasn't sure how to set up the account to have the correct page heading while noting the artist is Randall Cooke with the stage name Randy Allen and how he came to use that stage name in the info of the Wiki page. {{Randy Allen (talk) 15:21, 8 October 2017 (UTC)}}
- @Randy Allen: You still have not answered a question asked earlier. Are you Randy Allen himself, or someone else? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 22:15, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
I am Randall Cooke - Randy Allen is my stage Name
- Very well. To reiterate earlier messages from above, we highly advise that you not write about yourself. You are not an objective judge of your own notability. And any article with even a whiff of self-promotional or self-serving intent will not be accepted.
- Article topics generally require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and meets our criteria for biographies of living persons, someone else unconnected to you will eventually create an article about you. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social media site. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 05:42, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Got it! Thank you for your help.
