What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar | ||
Thank you for your efforts to simplify a tedious process. Your ResizeTool works great, and will really help clear this backlog. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 23:59, 11 September 2009 (UTC) |
Just wanted to let you know that I restored your speedy tag which the article creator wrongly removed. ArcAngel (talk) 03:08, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Bug in resize tool
MediaWiki keeps popping up with an error saying that "The file you uploaded seems to be empty. This might be due to a typo in the filename... [etc]". The "Source filename" box also shows up empty. Using FF3.5/IE8 on Windows Vista. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 23:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
re: Bug in resize tool
When the program asks you if the filebox was filed properly, are you hitting yes even if it isn't? I think there might be a security update that may be messing with how my program works. Check in your IE8 security settings to see if "Allow Programmatic Clipboard Access" is set to enabled. RandomStringOfCharacters (talk) 04:28, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I was pressing no. I also can't find the setting that you're talking about; I looked around a little in security options and advanced options, but didn't notice anything. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 13:51, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Okay; I enabled that setting, but it still isn't working. I also tried re-downloading the file. Is it okay for it to be on my desktop, or does it have to be in some specialized location to save images locally (assuming that that is how it works). –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 17:56, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
It seems to be working better now, but it still doesn't work all the way... it now copies the image into the directory where I extracted the .exe file, but then the tool appears to "blank out" and just go to a blank gray screen. The URL bar and back/forward buttons are still there, and the URL is something like http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&wpDestFile=B6_Veiled_Society.jpg&wpForReUpload=1 , but it just doesn't do anything from there. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 19:34, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
And... (drumroll please)

Awesome; thank you very much. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 21:00, 14 September 2009 (UTC) |
You can double-check after: if a user sees that a image shouldn't be resized, he can simply revert the bot. Nemo 07:53, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Bug in the resize tool regarding template redirects
I noticed that if a user tags an image with {{nfr}} instead of {{non-free reduce}} the script fails to change the tag. Could you add all these template redirects as well? -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 18:58, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
GDI+ crash
Sorry to give you another bug, but trying to process this image File:Benecol spread.jpg crashes the program, System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException: A generic error occurred in GDI+. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 19:04, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks :)
Thanks for the revert on my talk page, it's much appreciated. :) Regards, Javért ☆ 22:15, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Belle Vue Zoo map.png
Will you please quit resizing this image down to a size that makes it useless. It's a 70yr old diagram of a zoo that no longer exists. Making it 300px across makes it illegible and totally unreadable. No one is ever going to sue WP over it. WP:NFCC does not give any specific sizing requirements so please quit using arbitrary resolutions in a ridiculous manner. --WebHamster 23:56, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Agni-III_Republic_day.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Agni-III_Republic_day.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 01:41, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- You'll notice I was just resizing images that were tagged with {{Non-free reduce}}. With the set up of the tool it's much easier to just resize everything, including images with a bad fair-use claim. RandomStringOfCharacters (talk) 20:30, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (File:Allmanbros71.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Allmanbros71.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 21:33, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Clongowes scoreboard
Hi. I just wanted to let you know that I think "article with no content" was not an appropriate deletion category for Clongowes scoreboard, although I did delete it under "no indication that article meets guidelines for inclusion". If this was just a typo please ignore this. Otherwise please think of it as a helpful suggestion. Thanks for your work tagging articles for deletion. DJ Clayworth (talk) 17:32, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- The article was empty other than a rephrase of the title when I tagged it. RandomStringOfCharacters [T] 17:49, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Atlanta_Road_uniforms.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Atlanta_Road_uniforms.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 11:45, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Your resize tool
I don't know how to work it. I'm using XP, and upon unarchiving it just shows a folder with subfolders full of unrecognisable extensions. None of them run. (not even the one .exe file.) I'm not very computer literate, so could you help me? If you email me I could send you some screenshots or something. Cheers, SS✞(Kay) 08:52, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

- I think that's because you are trying to resize a SVG file. This tool does not work with SVG files. You will have to use seperate editors for that. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:07, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, a bit late here. I don't hang around that much anymore. Skreejith is right about SVG files -- though in my opinion, SVG files shouldn't be in the resize category to begin with. They need a different sort of treatment. RandomStringOfCharacters [T] 06:04, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Some Note From Some Guy
Hi Random,
I notice that you've added the AU logo to the Ashford University wiki page. Could you assist me with doing the same for the Holiday Bowl wiki page, as there's a new logo for the 2010 game?
You can reach me at michael.mussman@bridgepointeducation.com.
Thanks!

Declination of CSD for Pro-beam
Hello, I am a Page Patroller and probably saw this article at the same time as you. It gets ghits and seems to have notability but that will need to be added through citations. I will keep it on my Watchlist and see what I can do to improve it from time to time. I am going to place a message on the creator's talkpage. I request that you remove the CSD deletion notice as a sign of good faith in not biting the newcomers. ----moreno oso (talk) 01:34, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Updated Copyright on File:Australian_Coins_Front.jpg
Hi RandomStringOfCharacters, I've just updated File:Australian_Coins_Front.jpg with an Australian Coin-specific copyright template. I'd encourage you to check your free-use rationale, and apply for permission for the image from the Royal Australian Mint. twilsonb (talk) 04:15, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

- If you find any more images that I've uploaded that reference WP:NFCC, I'm not actually the original uploader of the file, I simply resized it as it was much too large or high quality to satisfy the fair-use rationale, so this type of message isn't very helpful. RandomStringOfCharacters [T] 09:23, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Criticism
Your resizing of the After Burner II infobox pic was ludicrous: it was made smaller than its use in the infobox, resulting in a butt-ugly pixelated picture on the page. Going overboard with the whole "fair use" thing makes Wikipedia a worse place for all. --Stormwatch (talk) 07:41, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Issue
I'm using Mozilla for the Image Resizer. I get to resize the image and the process stops there. The page goes blank and I'm unable to continue the process of resizingMjs1991 (talk) 12:35, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hey, the tool's pretty old and probably doesn't work too well anymore. But I'll try to see if it's any quick issue we can work out. First, how are you using it with Mozilla? The tool if I remember correctly uses the .Net WebBrowser object, which is essentially embedded IE. Have you changed the source or are you using the precompiled form? RandomStringOfCharacters [T] 20:00, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- Just tried this tool too and see the same issue, page goes blank after resize on the upload page. Straight download run of the .exe. Windows 7 IE 9. --Traveler100 (talk) 13:08, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity
Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
