[edit]Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Icons
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
When I look at other users' pages, they have icons, like, I'm a female contributer (I myself am actually male) like this guy, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Deli_nk . How do I add these icons and where can I find a list of them?--Ramesty (talk) 13:47, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ramesty, those are userboxes. See Wikipedia:Userboxes for more info. For lists of existing userboxes, see Wikipedia:Userboxes/Gallery and Category:Userboxes.
- To see how to use them, let's imagine you wanted to display that you're a male contributor as you say. To display the userbox from Template:User male on your userpage, you would add

orUser male
(with templates you can omit the namespace prefix) to the source code. To display the userbox from User:UBX/male, you would add

my reference in my sandbox
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
In my sandbox, in the "other" section, my reference in that section is supposed to be in my "reference" section. Why isn't it in there, did I cause it, and can you fix it?--Ramesty (talk) 03:24, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- The best way to fix it is to move the "Other" section above the reflist. When you say reflist you only get references that appear earlier in the file. You could have put another reflist after the "Other" section, but I don't recommend that. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:59, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

Help me!

I would normally ask the help desk this, but everything is archived after awhile, so that is why I'm asking here, so I won't lose the instructions. If you go to the main page of wikipedia, there is an article that says "Today's Article" or "Today's article for improvement." I know you can vote for what that article is going to be, but I never could figure out how to vote. Could you leave a list of instructions on how to do it? Ramesty (talk) 04:13, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ramesty. I'm not quite sure whether your referring to Today's Featured Article (which appears on the Main Page) or Today's Article for Improvement (which doesn't). If the former, then you can post nominations at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests (rules and instructions are at the start of that page); if it's the latter, you can add nominations at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement/Nominations (again, instructions are on the page there). Hopefully one or the other of those will answer your question. Yunshui 雲水 09:42, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Can someone add that to my sandbox and maybe show me how to do it myself — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramesty (talk • contribs) 03:39, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- You can undo what I did, but to give you the latest version of a "submit" button, I placed

- at the top of your draft, where it got expanded into what you see now. You can do this to your own sandboxes, or you can just add

and save when you are ready to submit. Both methods work in about the same way,so whichever you find easier is okay. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:34, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Can you give a page that gives me instruction on how to write an infobox. Whenever I look something up normally, it gives me something else
- Ramesty, the base template for all infoboxes is Template:Infobox, which should link you to the template documentation. The Manual of Style for infoboxes is at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes, which you should read over before creating a new one. You should also closely look at the list of current infoboxes to make sure you are not duplicating an existing one. Hope this helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 21:07, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

- Is it possible to make it slightly larger?
- You can make images as large or as small as you wish. Here's how:
- This is the code that generates the picture:

(actually it calls it from the File namespace, but let's not worry about that for now). To tell the software how large the displayed image shoudl be, add thepx
parameter.
will display the image 100 pixels wide (and scale the height accordingly). That's fairly small.
will display a much larger version. Just adjust the numbers to suit. Check out User:Yunshui/Images for beginners for an easy explanation of how to add pictures to Wikipedia pages. Yunshui 雲水 15:45, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Famousbirthdays.com as a source
[edit]Hi Ramesty. I noticed that you recently used famousbirthdays.com as a source for information in a biography article, Draft:Abdallah Smash. Please note that there is general consensus that famousbirthdays.com does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for the inclusion of personal information in such articles. (See Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_153#Is_famousbirthdays.com_a_reliable_source_for_personal_information). If you disagree, let's discuss it. Thanks. --Ronz (talk) 18:01, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Abdallah Smash
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Abdallah Smash, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Legacypac (talk) 19:43, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Cleyson LeRoy (C. L.) Brown
[edit]Hello, Ramesty. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Cleyson LeRoy (C. L.) Brown".

If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the db-afc

Started a C. L. Brown stub
[edit]Hi, Ram,
Unaware of your draft, I recently created a stub for C. L. Brown. Having visited Camp Brown many times and having explored the Brown Memorial Park, I have been considering the article or some time. I wasn't until I began deep research into Rocky Ford Dam at Manhattan that I learned some key search terms that helped me pick up more information about Brown.
- My goal is to complete the C. L. Brown article in my sandbox so I can nominate it for the DYK feature; this means all expansion needs to be done on the sandbox version (User:IveGoneAway/sandbox/C. L. Brown) until it is ready for the nomination.
- Feel invited to collaborate on that sandbox page. Feel free to add the infobox to the sandbox text.
- I would, however, verify were Brown died - I know he is interred south of Abilene, but didn't he die back east in Wilmington, Delaware?
- Let me know if you are interested in taking pictures for the article.

- Hello IveGoneAway, I would love to help if I can. I might not be able to get pictures, but I can share some information you are probably looking for. If it is okay with you, would you message me on Facebook. It has been a little while since I have used Wikipedia, and so therefore I am a little rusty. My account is here. Thanks, Ramesty (talk) 20:25, 22 July 2019 (UTC).
- I would rather not Facebook. I more regularly check into my Wikipedia account. IveGoneAway (talk) 14:26, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Do you have any other social media accounts you wouldn't mind using then? Ramesty (talk) 16:33, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
- I would rather not Facebook. I more regularly check into my Wikipedia account. IveGoneAway (talk) 14:26, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- I appreciate you asking, but, please, no. I want to keep the wiki separate from my one social media account. IveGoneAway (talk) 18:19, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
