- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}
Inappropriate additions
[edit]Hello, RajatGupta, I am JohnFromPinckney. I noticed your edits at User talk:Citation bot and Wikipedia:Accuracy dispute, where you added some extremely unexpected complaints about sex with a horse. Both of those pages are sort of "background" pages and are not reader-facing articles, but the texts you added were nevertheless inappropriate, and have been reverted. They were in any case irrelevant to the respective purpose of those pages.
Whether the text you added to Talk:Ashvamedha was relevant to that subject or not, I can't say (although it seems to tie in with other discussion on that page), but replying to a two-year-old discussion with opinions about what you find purely disgusting and unacceptable
may not be very useful either. (You might read the paragraph at WP:NOTFORUM for some guidance about inserting opinion unrelated to article page improvement.) Please be more careful about what you are adding, and where. Your colleagues, like myself, will be grateful. Thanks,— JohnFromPinckney (talk / edits) 09:43, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
