Article Deletion

[edit]

I was wondering if there was any sections of my article that were particular areas of concern. And any tips for making it read less "essay like" Thanks

Article Re submission

[edit]

I have edited the article and removed any language that is essay style. I will now resubmit my article for review. If my article does not meet the criteria again, I would like as specific feedback as I can get to help improve my article. Thankyou

Your recent article submission has been rejected. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by Hellknowz was: This submission is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. The comment the reviewer left was: The problem with this article is that it is WP:SYNTH -- there is no indication that this is how sources group and describe this topic; specific species were chosen to be covered and not others. Currently, it's an expansion of Domestication, Domestication of animals and individual animal articles with unclear direction (that is, not guided by sources on the topic). Therefore, it reads more like an essay than a encyclopedic description of a subject (to be clear, it is not the language or phrasing that is the issue). And this content can easily be included in their parent articles, which means it's mostly a content fork.

To elaborate, Wikipedia articles are (primarily) written about specific subjects that are directly covered by sources. There are some deviations, such as lists. For example, List of domesticated animals is a suitable article, but it already exists with a great many more examples (although no descriptions, which are in their individual articles and is arguably better organization). In such as case, it is made clear what the inclusion criteria for the list are and what the parent topic of the list is as per WP:LISTN. This article could conceivably be something like List of ancestors of domesticated species, but the aforementioned list already includes a column for that too, so the editorial decision will likely result in a merge of the two lists anyway.

In sum, this is not how Wikipedia chooses article topics and structures article content (in contrary to stuff like academic writing, where synthesis and original research are often the key goals).
