Not spam at all

[edit]

RJN,

In reference to your removal of my posting on Kingwood, Texas. I disagree with the labeling of the content as "spam". It is extremely valuable information for those of us that live in Kingwood. Please respond.

update: thanks for the response.

Thanks, Stinorama

RJN,

Not sure why you removed the links to these content sites. All sites I've added are relevant and almost 100% free resources.

RJN,

Thanks. I'm only adding sites that I thought might be a directly relevant and substantive contributions.

I see you were a Cougar too! I graduated from UH CBA in 2000 (MIS). It was Melcher Hall back then though...

Thanks...

Hi, I see that you reverted my edit on Evanescence that they were gothic rock. Please check out [1] to see that Evanescnece is the #1 artist on last.fm tagged as ‘gothic rock’. ~Chris (e) 21:56, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Houston FA nomination

[edit]

Greetings, I want to help with your FA nomination plans. Let me know what I can do to help. I've added a progress section and requested feedback from other editors on the talk page. Take care, Postoak 00:41, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Falconer

[edit]

Would you mind having a quick look through your Texas resources (library databases etc) to see if you can find an image of Thomas Falconer? Snottygobble 07:13, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

En dashes in University articles

[edit]

I saw that you recently went through and changed a large number of university articles that had been using hyphens in the article names to en or em dashes. While I am normally a stickler for typographical accuracy, in these cases, using dashes instead of hyphens virtually guarantees that nearly every editor who creates a link to those articles will (unless he or she is in the very small minority who actually checks for such things) be linking to a redirect page instead. It is my opinion that, in this case, the tradeoff between the absolute accuracy approach and the "close but imperfect" approach to naming articles should be in favor of the latter. – Swid (talk | edits) 05:41, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For future reference, I recommend that you read the Manual of Style dash guidelines. – Swid (talk | edits) 19:16, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For all of your hard work, time and effort improving the Houston article. A well deserved Thank you! Postoak 05:49, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the Texas Medical Center award. I've noticed that many of the articles linked to the Houston page could use some help, especially those describing the various neighborhoods. Postoak 19:23, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Milwaukee

[edit]

RJN, What source do you have for not including the Combined Statistical Area data when such data is present. Have you ever been to the Milwaukee area? Racine is part of the metro area, since residents commute both ways, and since Racine taxpayers are paying for Miller Park. Take a drive from Downtown Racine to Downtown Milwaukee, (a distance of only 26 miles), and you never leave the urbanized area. I realize that the Census Bureau changed their definitions in 2000, but they included the CSA for instances where two or more metros make up one larger metro. Thanks,--Polemick 14:47, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

RJN,

I posted some links to voxproperty.com on Houston neighborhood pages and found that they were all removed. I was not logged in as me, but as an IP (70.248.253.108). In reference to the request to add actual content to wikipedia, I agree, but voxproperty is a dynamically-updated site of property values. a) it's difficult and somewhat inappropriate to put detailed statistics on a wikipedia page, although that information may very well be interesting to wikipedia readers. Thus a reference with an external link seems appropriate. b) As properties sell and market values change, it is impossible to keep that information updated if it is entered manually on wikipedia. c) The statistics provided by voxproperty are unique to that site in my experience.

Thanks, mpbro

I would like to thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Fair use image use

[edit]

Per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9, the use of fair use images in templates or userpages is not permitted. This is why Image:Texas state seal.png was removed from {{Texas}}. Additionally, I've removed Image:UH005.gif from your userpage for the same reason. Please do not reinsert these images, or any other fair use tagged images, into templates or userpages. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks, --Durin 18:18, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Users: Kramden4700 and Wrath of Wroth

[edit]

Thanks for identifying (or at least suggesting) that Kramden4700 and Wrath of Roth are sockpuppets of each other. I'm so frustrated by these users who assert their pragmatism without consensus. If you're opening a case at WP:SUSPSOCK, I'd appreciate it so I can confirm my own suspicions, and thanks. Tinlinkin 19:51, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies

[edit]

Hello RJN. I'm very sorry if I caused you any inconvenience over the antics of a user you know who I'm talking about. And I appreciate your boldness in reverting his edits. I hope I have done nothing wrong, and I don't intend any harm. I was just trying to defend Wikipedia's spirit of openness and discussion, and trying to revert any major changes that came without consensus. Again, I repeat, I don't believe I did anything wrong, and I hope you agree with me.

I have opened an inquiry on Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets, and I hope you can comment on them, if you please. Posting the message "A is a sockpuppet of B" will not get administrators' attention, I don't think.

Thanks so much for reading this message, and please reply on my talk page. Tinlinkin 06:44, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reverting this template. -- Netoholic @ 04:55, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

El Paso, Texas

[edit]

I may be wrong, but I googled the "theory" of El paso being the largest bi-national metropolitain area in the world. Can you please show me a list or something that tells me the largest bi-national metropolitain area in the world? That is greatly appreciated. thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Smguy101 (talkcontribs) .

Multi-country metropolitan areas

[edit]

There is a List of metropolitan areas that overlap multiple countries but does not have population statistics. The metropolitan areas list of World Gazetteer does include metro areas spanning multiple countries but I don't know how authoritative the site's metro area definitions are. Hope that helps. --Polaron | Talk 05:42, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank You Polaron it really does help. And thank you RJN for your dedication to Wikipedia and making sure everything is factual, and correcting my own changes to Wikipedia  ;-) kudos. Smguy101 05:53, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uptown

[edit]

I think millions of Americans, real estate agents (commerical and residential), and local Houstonians use the term "Galleria" still, to describe the Post Oak area. "Uptown" is still very new. As in: "I live/work near the Galleria" is more common than "I live/work in Uptown". Don't you think the combined name helps clarify this? Historically, the term "Galleria" has been used. Uptown is newer and it seems like a term that's being promoted by the City moreso these days. ThanksYukirat 19:18, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS Perhaps you might add some info or a link to "Uptown" section that mentions the Galleria? Did I miss something, or is it not even given a mention? I believe the Galleria is still the number 1 tourist attraction in Houston (number of visitors) proper.Yukirat 19:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Texas

[edit]

hi, I would like you to explain why you reverted my edit on the Texas template. I firmly believe that all Texas counties should be present on the template so that people can get a better overview of the state. Please explain why you don't agree. Thanks, (Eddie 23:56, 25 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Making useless edits after moves

[edit]

You made some edits with the summary "Made second edit in order to prevent further move over redirect". Could you please not do that? It's a stupid kludge that exploits a shortcoming of the MediaWiki software in a futile attempt to enforce your new title, and it forces people to turn to admins for moves that should be trivial. So in the future, just move it and then don't worry about it. Pretty please? —Keenan Pepper 05:40, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
