Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, RFCHistorian. Reversion of grand final pages

Hello. To let you know, I have reverted the recent edits you made to Richmond winning grand final pages. The reason is that the project consensus is to follow AFL statistical guidelines as outlined a few years ago (this is taken from the 1870 Victorian football season page.

Since June 2016, the AFL Commission has formally recognised the top level of Victorian football back to 1870 as senior, which applies to both the unaffiliated period from 1870–1876 and the Victorian Football Association from 1877–1896. However, it maintains a distinction between the 1870–1896 competitions and the history of the VFL/AFL from 1897 onwards, and requires statistics and achievements from these periods to be delineated while at the same time allowing clubs to recognise these achievements in their own histories.

As such, the convention is that on Richmond Football Club pages all fifteen VFA and VFL/AFL premierships should be called out, on VFL/AFL pages only the 13 VFL/AFL premierships can be called out. Aspirex (talk) 09:52, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

@Aspirex: Hi Aspirex, thank you for your message. Since the June 2016 guideline you posted above, a few changes has occurred. As of March 10, 2020, I was appointed historian of the Richmond Football Club. One of the initial decisions as part of my role was for the club to acknowledge its VFA history when discussing premierships. As the AFL Commission allows clubs to recognise their history outside of the VFL/AFL, the Richmond Football Club now recognise its 1902 and 1905 VFA Senior premierships. On July 20th 2018 the club bestowed posthumous life membership to their VFA premiership players For instance in the 2020 AFL Grand Final page, to say that it is the "club's thirteenth premiership" is factually incorrect. It is the club's "thirteenth League premiership", as we won two premierships in the Association, thereby making it fifteen premierships. We therefore ask that you revert to my earlier revision, or at the very least ensure when referencing a "premiership" for Richmond on a VFL/AFL page that you call it "League premiership".
