Trump opening paragraph

[edit]

During the past few days I have been trying to bring some NPOV to the Donald Trump BLP. It certainly is challenging to do so. Anyway, one of the things I encouraged was a sentence in the opening paragraph of the lead saying he’s the GOP presidential nominee. Every presidential nominee since the beginning of Wikipedia has had such a sentence in the opening paragraph, because that paragraph is supposed to give the main points about the person. Omitting it is like denying he’s a legitimate candidate or a legitimate nominee. It’s like trying to cancel his nomination. Trump was not my preferred candidate, but he absolutely did get nominated. It’s also typical to give some further info at the end of the lead about the candidate!s nomination, such as choice of running mate. Take a look at the BLP of any nominee for president. Being a nominee is also an accomplishment, and if we don’t give it standard coverage in the lead, then the more negative stuff will predominate. By the way, how’s it going? I just noticed you’re the former IAmReallyGoodAtCheckers. I hope you’re well. Out of college now? Cheers. Anythingyouwant (talk) 02:33, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Anythingyouwant: If it's standard on wiki bios to have this fact in the opening lead than I'll regress, but the whole first paragraph needs some expansion in my opinion. I share you commitment to NPOV at the Trump bio. Also, I'm doing well, and thank you for asking! Yes, I'm still in college at this time, and it's a lot of work especially since the semester is just starting. R. G. Checkers talk 17:51, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It’s not an easy article to improve, that’s for sure (you can get a sample of the difficulty by seeing the most recent section of my talk page). Anythingyouwant (talk) 20:30, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
