Subpages
[edit]Please note that your subpages for the Math 251 class are inappropriate for the Wikipedia site. Examples:
Wikipedia is not a free host, blog, or webspace provider. Please set up a section on a site that does provide the appropriate hosting for your projects (such as Wikia) and move this content there. The pages mentioned above will be nominated for deletion if they are not removed in a timely manner. Thanks --AbsolutDan (talk) 01:37, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Response
[edit]Apologies -- this started off as a quick test for my Honors Analysis II notes, became a temporary thing, and just grew. The content will be moved to an appropriate host.
The course final is on Wednesday (April 12th), and I will move all the pages from Wikipedia by midnight Thursday.

- Do you need any help in listing these pages for removal? --AbsolutDan (talk) 17:29, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Removal
[edit]AbsolutDan,
(are you watching my talk page?)
I'm archiving them now. But from Special:Export I can only get the current versions as XML.
- Is there an better way that will get the full history?
- And how should I remove them once I've gotten them downloaded?
Apologies for wasted resources, especially your time -- and as a math/cs student, this summer I hope to become much more involved with Wikipedia.
--Qwerpoiu 17:40, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ok here's what i've found...
- normally the Special:Export feature does allow you to export the page's history as well, but the admins have temporarily disabled this feature. You can, however, download a dump of the entire wiki page database that includes the histories. The file is huge - 4 GB, which apparently uncompresses 20-100 times that size. If you have the space and bandwidth, though, you could obtain your pages' history this way. See http://download.wikimedia.org/enwiki/20060219/ for the last successful dump. The file you're looking for is pages-meta-history.xml.7z, which is in 7-Zip format (like .ZIP but more highly compressed - you can get 7-Zip at www.7-zip.org).
- In order to delete your own pages, add the following tag to the top of each page:
- {{db-owner}}
- This will place the page in the speedy deletion queue, and it will be removed by an administrator shortly.
- There is another method you may wish to consider for these pages. Since you're concerned with losing the content and history of the pages, you may wish to consider redirecting each page to your main user page. According to Wikipedia:User_page#How_do_I_delete_my_user_subpages.3F, this in some cases can be acceptable way to essentially remove the content of the page, but still retain its history. First, set up a section on your user page with links to each of the to-be-removed pages. Then, redirect the pages. To get to the history of the redirected pages, follow the appropriate link. The redirect will send you to your user page, but will present a small "(Redirected from <page>)" link, which you can click on to access the "non-redirected" version of the page.
- Now i'm not sure how kosher it would be to do this for all your pages (i'm no admin), but it may be at least an easier means than the data dump to temporarily retain your history until the Special:Export option lets you export history again. It's a bit of work though
- I'll watch your Talk page, so feel free to just keep replying here if you need any further help. I'm used to dealing with malicious vandals and spammers here, so helping you out is no trouble at all compared to them! --AbsolutDan (talk) 01:10, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Qwerpoiu - how's the exporting going? These pages really should be removed from Wikipedia soon. --AbsolutDan (talk) 00:30, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Subpages redux
[edit]If you're done with the subpages, I can delete them instead of letting them as dozens of redirects if you like. Drop me a note if it's ok with you. -- ( drini's page ☎ ) 04:34, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
User:Math242.com subpages
[edit]I have moved all the subpages of User:Math242.com to subpages of User:Qwerpoiu/Math242.com, since User:Math242.com is not a real user. You can find them by using Special:Prefixindex/User:Qwerpoiu/Math242.com. --cesarb 00:43, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Subpage Deletion
[edit]Qwerpoiu: it's been almost a month since the subpage issue was first raised. If you're still around, please let us know the status of your exporting. I'll give it another week and if I don't hear anything I'll have to start nominating the pages for deletion. --AbsolutDan (talk) 04:24, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, all pages have been redirected to your user page (User:Qwerpoiu). Let one of us know if you need any further help! --AbsolutDan (talk) 19:23, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
