Infobox

[edit]

Hi there.

You just created a live article called "Chibu, Shimane/infobox"

I'm not sure quite what you intended, so I've moved it to User:Quillaja/Chibu, Shimane/infobox.

The article Chibu, Shimane already has an infobox, within the article itself.

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  12:27, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see now that you were wanting to move it to a separate page and transclude it - why?  Chzz  ►  12:28, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to transclude it (and the climate chart and weather table) to make the main article's wikimarkup cleaner and easier for other to edit. It's a real pain sifting through an article with a few huge templates like the infobox, climate chart, and weather table. I did the transclusion thing in the draft in my user pages, but didn't know subpages weren't allowed from the main wikipedia articles (a decision I disagree with). So anyway, I created those odd pseudo-subpages before I realized subpages weren't allowed. Quillaja (talk) 12:34, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It can cause a few problems; for one thing, it confuses other editors - if they click to 'edit' the page, they can't find where to fix the infobox content, unless they know about transclusions.
Also, it causes trouble with indexing and things, because the 'subpage' feature of the mediawiki is disabled for article space. (Wikipedia:Subpages#Articles do not have sub-pages (main namespace))
So, it's best to just include it all in the article. Note that any 'empty' parameters (unused ones) can be removed, which makes it much shorter. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  12:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I still disagree with the no-subpage policy. However, since that's how it is, it can't be helped. I'll move the templates in question into the main article and mark the pseudo-subpages for deletion. Quillaja (talk) 12:51, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough; I've already done the infobox one, actually. You can mark the userspace subpage for deletion though if you like ({{db|user}}). You could also start a discussion about the idea, if you want, on Wikipedia:Village pump (policy). Cheers,  Chzz  ►  13:07, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Epub logo color.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Epub logo color.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.
  • To opt out of these bot messages, add {{bots|deny=DASHBot}} to your talk page.

EPUB logo replacement

[edit]

Hi Quillaja. You asked on my talk page about why the JPEG version of the EPUB logo was replaced with a PNG version. The JPEG format is not the most appropriate one for logos and diagrams that employ solid blocks of colour, as the EPUB logo does; it leaves obvious compression artifacts (blurring around the edges) and generally doesn't compress as well as a format like PNG. So even though the JPEG version is one of the ones officially supplied by IDPF, a PNG copy is most suitable for Wikipedia. (An SVG would also be appropriate to use for logos like this one. But, since it's a non-free logo, Wikipedia limits itself to showing the logo at small sizes; there'd be no benefit to using an SVG.) Hope that answers your question. ☺ -- Perey (talk) 14:44, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
