Has DJ Mell Starr file received permission?

It looks like the file has received permission by the owner. If so Please confirm because I am afraid of the file being deleted. QTPepsi (talk) 02:32, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- I fixed the link in this heading, links on Wikipedia are case sensitive so don't write in all caps unless the link really is in all caps.
- It seems to me that File:Master of The Mix, DJMellStarrW.jpg is still subject to deletion because a permission email from the copyright owner has not yet been received. You need to get "SmileforSonya" to send a permission email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org today, which specifies the image file exactly the same as it is named here - "Master of The Mix, DJMellStarrW.jpg". - The email was received and already answered, but has major problems, so I marked the image and it won't get deleted in the next few days. mabdul 12:52, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

what are the major problems and Is there anything I can do to fix the major problems? I thought only an email from the owner was needed?QTPepsi (talk) 13:53, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- It has now been seen to, problem solved. The permission is in order. You can go back to adding more detail to the article - or how about having a go at fixing the two cite issues that have been tagged. Roger (talk) 14:17, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- I've managed to fix the one cite problem. Can you find sources to confirm the list of people he worked with (first paragraph in the "Career" section)? Roger (talk) 14:30, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Hey you asked for feedback.
[edit]Hi there QTPepsi - you asked so I had a look. Your doing great with content, but I'm a little concerned about citing web pages. It is legit - 100% legit, but it also brings a few extra problems that you can address and it's a long term fix!
You face a few interesting problems because Starr is featured in modern net media and pages (he's a fast movin funky guy) - and those pages can get changed often - get moved often - and that causes Link Rot.
Link rot is a big issue for Wikipedia and in some cases it means that pages have no references - no citations - and they get deleted. Yikes!
This may help. When you find a source you can archive a webshot of the page using http://www.webcitation.org. It's quick and easy and then you have a link that is unlikely to rot. It's actually recommended by Wikipedia. P^)
You can play with http://www.webcitation.org and see how it works for you. It also "references" the original webpage which is important. You even get an email confirmation which you can store for future reference. Nice!
If you just want to get on and and play - the page is http://www.webcitation.org/archive - but I advise looking carefully and getting it right. webcitation.org is not just for Christmas - It can be a life long friend. P^)
You do need an email address to use the service, so it's a good idea to set up one specifically for http://www.webcitation.org - that way you can protect against Spam. When a page is archived they use your email address (or as I call them E-Myther) and it leaves it open to spambots which harvest them from all over the net.
Your putting in so much work, it would be terrible if in a few months time web pages have been moved and all the work has to be done all over again - tracking links - reference them - recite them. Yuk. And some may have vanished forever. That's Link Rot!
I've been googling and looking for sources - and I have already found some in google, but when you click on the link either the page has changed or been redirected. Hassle. I haven't looked, but you may find some of those pages in the "Way Back Machine" http://archive.org. It's not guaranteed but you never know. Again you can archive the pages you find in the wayback machine for easy reference using http://www.webcitation.org - it's 100% legit.
Another trick is, if you find a supposed source and it's gone missing, you look to see if it's still in the Google cache. If you have not used that before it's easy. Just copy the link to the page that says it has content, then in the google search window type "cache:PASTE_ORIGINAL_PAGE_URL_HERE. You can read all about Google Cache Here!
If you do find what you need in the Google cache you IMMEDIATELY archive it using http://www.webcitation.org and that preserves it. Again 100% legit. Google cache pages do not hang about and they get purged when a page is updated again - so if you find what you need in Google Cache ARCHIVE IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT WAIT. It is 100% legit.
As I said, you face some problems due to the way the Internet works and the speed that content changes. The suggestions may help and make the page on Dj Mell Starr more stable and maintained long term.
Hope that helps - and I hope you are not a hit and run type. There is so much you can do with your knowledge of Music and the fast moving DJ and music scene. We need editors like you. It may not be cool to be a wiki editor, but we all have guilty secrets and cool is many things to many people.
.... and have a look at http://100searchengines.com as it brings multiple search engines into one window. It's amazing the differences between Google - Bing - Yahoo and others. You never know what you can find - and then Archive it with http://www.webcitation.org Cheers. Media-Hound 'D 3rd P^) (talk) 20:14, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
