Autism pages
Hey Q0 I wrote the original Controversies page, wanted to ty for looking after it in my absensce of ill health. Memzy 01:10, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Hi Q0, I have seen your work on various autism pages, very impressed, would you consider writing/helping on the autism wiki based from the Aspies for freedom site? AFF wiki
I work on this site and it would be a great help if you could consider it, many thanks. AmyNelson 17:59, 8 Jan 2005 (GMT)
- Re: Autism
Hi Q0. Saw your reference citations in the introduction. Appreciate the new information. Thanks for the contribution.
Intrigued by this reference in the "Misbehaviour of behaviouralists" article you linked. Quote: "For instance, aversives. When systematically hurting autistic children in ABA programs raised ethical concerns, to the point where laws were passed, ABA became non-aversive: problem solved. The just concerns about continuing physical punishment of autistics in other programs can no longer be used as ammunition against ABA. "
Not up to speed on ABA (have actually edited some POV on this issue in the article itself) and was wondering what on earth does the article refer to, "systematically hurting autistic children". Have you got some details? Malangthon 01:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I do not know what the author (Michelle Dawson) is referring to when she describes "systematically hurting autistic children." You might want to e-mail Michelle Dawson about that or leave a message on her message board. I have been told that the use of electric shock, physical restraints, and deprivation of food in thepies for autistic people have been criticized for being too harsh and/or painful, but I don't know what specific aversives Michelle Dawson was referring to in the above quote. Asperger's syndrome
Could you see what's going on in Asperger's syndrome article? An anonymous editor keeps doing edits, which I think represent pro-cure POV. S/he doesn't use discussion page, although I have already commented the edits there. Could you examine, if they still contain something worthy for the article. Mostly they are "sufferer majority" advocacy. However, they had a link to Cure Autism Now foundation, which I added to the article. -Hapsiainen 00:39, Feb 7, 2005 (UTC)
- I did take a look at that person's edits and I do agree it is highly POV. Unfortuneately though, I will be very busy for the next week or two so I won't have time to do much. I would be willing to help the situation in a week or two when I have more time, but I'm sorry that I can't do much today. Some of that stuff probably could be included in the article. If some autistic/Asperger's people do want a cure, then that would have to be acknowledged, but I do have concerns over the factual accuracy of the person's information. I have not noticed any "division" in the autism community surrounding the cure issue. I have heard a few people on the spectrum express the desire for a cure, but the overwhelming majority of autistic/Asperger's people who I have met do not, and those who do don't appear to be active participants in the online community, so I would be doubtful of that person's claim that the online community is divided. In addition, I don't think putting the CAN foundation's website as "opposing views" on the anti-cure issue within the online Asperger's/autistic community is appropriate because CAN does not represent views from Asperger's people wanting a cure, it represents the views of parents wanting a cure, and that section is about alleged different opinions among those in the Asperger's community. (I'm not sure about the terminology I'm using and what terminology would be most appropriate, I don't want to imply something I don't agree with regarding the "Is Asperger's autism" debate; I do think if there are any differences between Asperger's and autism it is not nearly enough for separate labels in the DSM but the article is technically about "Asperger's" so I don't know if I am supposed to only refer to people officially considered "Asperger's" in the DSM when referring to that article. Even though that section is about the "Asperger's community" those who the DSM considers "Asperger's" and "autistic" appear to be members of the same online community, in my experience.) I think the person needs to provide references to pro-cure Asperger's groups in order for some of the stuff to be included in the article. In addition, it is Wikipedia's policy that is not a good enough reason to delete something unless it is very egregious. The last two paragraphs of that person's article do not appear to be anything more than personal opinion and not a reporting of other peoples' opinions, so would be original research, which is against wikipedia's policy. I also still am wary of the factual accuracy of that person's contribution. A suggestion if someone doesn't go to the talk page is to leave HTML comments on the article asking the person go discuss this on the talk page. Sorry I can't do more to help right now, but if the issue is still open in a week or two when I have more time I will attempt to resolve the situation. Q0 11:26, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Aspects of autism
Q0,
Thanks for reorganizing the Autism page. Like you, I'd also noticed that the "Aspects of Autism" section had evolved into an incoherent mess, and was thinking of tackling the project before you beat me two it.
"Aspects of autism" is an unfortunate title in that it's meaning is unclear and broad, which is undoubtedly why it has been a magnet for unrelated entries, and will continue to be so. Might as well be named "Miscellaneous". So it might be a good idea to pre-empt a repeat of the problem by either renaming or retiring the section, and moving the remaining three entries into other sections.
The theory of mind entry could go the "Proposed models..." section. The autistic savant entry might be a candidate for any of several new or existing sections, including "Symptoms", "Special gifts", "Uncommon variants".

Advocate Request
Hi, I saw your request for an Advocate and would be happy to help out. I am an advocate and also have a son who is HFA so I'm quite familiar with the issues. Drop me an email and explain what's going on a bit more and I'll take a look at it and let you know what I think. --Wgfinley 18:55, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Speedy
You can request speedy deletion by adding {{db|reason for deletion}} to the top of the page. It is up to the sysops discretion whether to delete. Going by the book this deletion wouldn't be kosher because another user has edited the article (no matter how minor). The article really isn't yours anymore so you don't have the right to unilaterally delete it. It's possible that an admin will let the deletion slide, however. Even if it isn't deleted remember that your user account is anonymous and it would be hard for someone to link your account to you. Hope that is helpful. This link is Broken 16:53, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your additions to the list of disability rights organizations. After exploring more of the autism spectrum entries, I found Judy Singer and added her to the list of disability rights activists. It looked like there weren't many autism-related people on there. I thought I'd let you know, in case you thought of someone who should go on there. They don't necessarily have to have an article, yet. Thanks. Jacqui ★ 06:49, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
Prematurely deceased entertainer categories
Hi. FYI, folks are trying again to delete the prematurely deceased entertainer categories at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 January 17#Entertainers who died.... I noticed you voted to save them in the past and thought you might want to know. :) —Wknight94 (talk) 00:17, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi QO - I was going to WP:TFD this - but I'll post here instead in perhaps an attempt to convince you that it is probably not the best idea:
- It is basically redundant with Template:Pervasive developmental disorders which is a better template overall anyway (and labels what really is controversial as such) - and in fact is being placed on a lot of the same pages as that template. which makes pages unneccerily messy
- Is POV and only presents the "anti-cure" a.k.a. pro-autism-rights-movement POV along with its activists and doesn't have organizations such as National_Alliance_for_Autism_Research which are on the other side of the debate etc..
As a side note fighting the POV on those pages is particularily tiresome :(. WhiteNight T | @ | C 01:51, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree, but I don't know how much tiresome debate it is worth. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to nominate it for deletion and let the voters decide. Q0 02:51, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Would you be opposed to a merge of sorts? WhiteNight T | @ | C 03:14, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- I can accept a merge. Q0 03:16, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
OK, well I'm sorry for being abrupt earlier but it just gets old reverting the same stuff on there even after I worked to get it to a featured article. Anyway, I think you're idea is good but what I'd like is a single template that somehow centralizes all of this in one place (the pro/anti debate) in an NPOV way and lets the reader decide - maybe like
Anti-Cure Pro-Cure Organizations Organizations People People etc. etc. Maybe call it "Template:Autism Controversies" or something? What do you think?
WhiteNight T | @ | C 03:14, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure what you are suggesting. Are you suggesting merging the Template:Pervasive developmental disorders and Template:Autism rights movement into a new template, called Template:Autism controversies? If that is the case, I think it would be a good idea, since autism controversies is more NPOV than pervasive developmental disorder, since it uses the word disorder. I would suggest the name be "Autism" or "Autistic spectrum" though; since every aspect of autism is controversial, I think it seems redundant to add the word controversy. Q0 03:51, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
If I'm to be honest, I think both templates need to be reorganized. Q0 02:25, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Prematurely deceased entertainer categories (for the 3rd time)
Hi. FYI, folks are trying again to delete the prematurely deceased entertainer categories at this link. I noticed you voted to save them in the past and thought you might want to know. :) —Wknight94 (talk) 14:35, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Why did my Trivia get deleted and Why did you delete my Arturo quote.you Said
removed. Biff Tannen said that not Maxmillian Arturo
Please give me an explination why you deleted this:
- Quinn once ate from the stool after Arturo went in the stool
- Wade and Arturo once had all night hot sex
How did you know biff said that, did you watch Back to the Future II
By the way if Quinn Mallory didn't say "Thats correct Wendy, We all wear masks, metaphorically speaking" who did —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tasha Yar (talk • contribs) 22:13, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have seen each episode of Sliders and remember it well enough to know that those quotes were never stated in the show. Yes, I did see Back to the Future II and do recall Biff Tannen making the respective statement to Marty McFly. Q0 00:11, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Also, in regard to your quote of Quinn Mallory talking to "Wendy": none of the main characters of Sliders were named Wendy. In addition, I don't remember any guest characters named Wendy either. The page http://www.epguides.com/Sliders/guide.shtml names all the show's guest characters along with the actors who played them for each episode. I have done a text search for the name "Wendy" on that document and the name did not come up once. Since there appears to have never been a character on the show named Wendy, I cannot see how Quinn Mallory could have said that quote. Q0 12:43, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
If Quinn didn't say that who did? What movie or show is that from. And why did you delete the facts —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tasha Yar (talk • contribs) 16:32, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I did a google seach on the quote and came up with the following:
Dr. Arthur Neuman: We all wear masks... metaphorically speaking.
Stanley Ipkiss: (imitating Dr. Neuman) That's correct, Wendy. We all wear masks, metaphorically speaking. (Stanley laughs, puts on mask, it starts to suck on his face and he pulls it off) Stanley Ipkiss: (bewildered) Yeah, right.
These quotes came from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110475/quotes which is a collection of quotes from the film The Mask. Q0 02:49, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Have you watched The Mask If you haven't please do. -The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tasha Yar (talk * contribs) 22:48, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Also, why do you think these facts aren't true
- Quinn once ate from the stool after Arturo went in the stool
- Wade and Arturo once had all night hot sex
Your Pal,Natasha Yar 22:48, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
I think those facts are untrue because I remember the show Sliders well enough and I do not recall those quotes. If you think they are true, can you please provide citations, by specifying what episode the "facts" are from? Q0 07:10, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I find it curious that you asked if watching Back to the Future II is how I knew that it was Biff Tannen and not Maximillian Arturo who said the quotes in question. Why did you specifically ask about part II of the Back to the Future trilogy? If you knew the quote was from that movie, then why did you add it to a page about a Sliders character like Maximillian Arturo? Q0 00:00, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
CFD again for "Entertainers by age upon death"
They are trying to delete this group of categories for the 4th time. Closing soon. --Blainster 10:31, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- I just added Category:Entertainers_by_age_upon_death to my watchlist. Hopefully I will notice it next time it is nominated for deletion. Q0 16:33, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Could you please help protect this article from unfair deletionists?
Hi Q0 ! I found you through Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians. I was hoping if you can lend me a helping hand with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Institute_of_Management article. On August 10 an unknown person marked it for deletion. Then a group of 4 deletionists gave a delete vote claiming non-notability. Inspite of the fact that nn is not an official reason for deletion, I provided a clear evidence of notability and verifiable references and won a stong keep vote from Ephilei (another inclusionist). However, my concern is that we are only 3 votes against 6 votes . Therefore, I kindly ask you to check the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/International_Institute_of_Management (if it is too long you can check keep-comments). I’m not asking for anything more than an ethical vote. I’m willing to return the favor and review a similar articles. Every keep vote counts, please help! Miro.gal
- I'll think about it, but in the mean time, I've imported the article to Wikinfo http://www.wikinfo.org/wiki.php?title=International_Institute_of_Management . Q0 07:48, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Your list IS worthwhile despite what some deletionists would say
The list (List_of_fictional_characters_on_the_autistic_spectrum) you created is/was up for deletion. I want you to know there is a place for it: http://wikitistics.com . No one will be able to nominate it for deletion because it fits one simple rule: it's a statistic, list, or figure. Some people think these websites should encompass the same scope of a paper book- we don't. Apologies if this note is directed at the wrong person. Good luck with your endeavors! I noticed that you are supportive of the Entertainers by age at death which has recently been deleted. I saved the contents of most of those categories. Should the option to listify them be explored? Q0 20:04, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, why not. It would be best if it were sourced and came from some other reliable source's list though. —Wknight94 (talk) 20:10, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- How should this be done? Should I create some of the lists and/or would you like me to send you the lists? If I were to create one of these lists, would I be at risk of violating a policy of Wikipedia to create a listified version of a recently deleted category? What I have is basically a copy/paste from the categories, so a bit of formating would also be necessary. I guess the way to reference it would be to find sources that indicate the date of birth and death. However, I think there is a good chance that the lists will eventually be deleted, so I'm not sure if it would be worth the hassle of referencing. Q0 20:31, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I may be too biased since I kinda got the ball rolling on those a year ago but the chief complaint seems to be that they cluttered up the articles too much. That wouldn't be the case if they were in a separate list. If you want to be safe, you could ask the closing admin. What I meant as far as references was to find an existing list or two or three created by reliable sources (I know there are several out there which is kind of what started me on the idea back in my newbie days). As long as it doesn't look like you made up the list(s) on your own, you'll be safe as far as WP:V goes. —Wknight94 (talk) 20:37, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Bad Bill Tucker pointed you out to me. There is a huge hole in Wikipedia articles related to Mental Health, but not necessarily psychology. These are from more of a peer perspective. Hello. On the above CFD you expressed the view that the categories encompassed by this nomination be 'listified'. Given the general rationale of the nomination, that the categories would be better deleted in favour of lists, this appears to imply support for deletion. On the other hand it may well be that you wish to retain the categories and have lists. If you could possibly see your way to revisiting the debate and clarifying your position then this would be very much appreciated.
Best wishes, Xdamrtalk 16:05, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article User:Q0/Aspergian Pride's List of Pride and Advocacy Links, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on [[Talk:User:Q0/Aspergian Pride's List of Pride and Advocacy Links|its talk page]]. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Greetings Q0! I just wanted to say hi and thank you for your abiding civility and level-headedness as the recent AfD discussion. Overall I think that we're pretty much on the same page in terms of autism awareness, and it looks like you've made some fine contributions to WP in that area. In the last couple of years I've very much enjoyed attending Autcom[1] (wow, that needs its own article!) and ANI events. Best wishes to you! peace, Jim Butler(talk) 10:08, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
In the future, please add ones like these to the list at WP:CFDS. There are bots that will empty the categories. We aren't suposed to actually delete them until they are empty. I've already moved the sliders and star trek ones onto the working list. I've also updated the instructions at Category:Categories to be listified then deleted to remind people to add them to the list at WP:CFDS. -- Prove It (talk) 16:04, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
