Gallery in article Beauty
Hi, you removed my gallery section in the article Beauty stating it was unencyclopedic. However, my goal was to create a gallery so that images of beauty as view by different cultures could be viewed. Also I added different forms of beauty within that gallery. I'm sure you can agree that the images I added were non-bias and encompassed different forms of beauty. However, I do agree a gallery could easily lead to abuse so I'm going to agree with you on removing it.Valoem talk 04:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough. It's less that what you put was bad than that it was destined to become quickly bloated by everyone's pet images into something that was unencyclopaedic. Pseudomonas 06:58, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
On a side note: The image "Sharbat Gula" is hidden. I feel that image is notable enough within the context of beauty to be included. It is consider the most compelling cover photo on National Geographic and is also, as stated in the caption: "regarded as among the world's most iconic and compelling images. Its plain and vivid reflection of human beauty within a context of conflict and suffering remains a well-recognized symbol for the cause of human rights". I feel this image should be included agreed :)? Cheers! Valoem talk 04:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Casino Map Deletion
Hello, I was wondering why you deleted the casino map links that I added to several pages. I am a new Wikieditor so forgive me if I am missing something but after reading through the guidelines, I saw no reason why they couldn't be added. The maps are not copyrighted, the links are legitimate, they are highly relevant to the subject and very useful to users. Also, the site hosting them is completely non-profit. Thanks! Lvcasinoinfo
- To throw my opinion in: these maps look to be very informative and I didn't see a single ad on your site. It always raises a red flag, however, when a new user joins under their website's name and begins posting links to their site on various pages. I can only see your links being an issue if your site later turned for-profit. 68.184.218.216 05:33, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- I was just wary of someone with the username of the website and no previous edits posting a large number of such links with no edit summaries. If the maps don't include copyright material, you could always consider uploading them to Wikimedia commons, which would save you badnwidth as well. Pseudomonas 07:47, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

I understand the concern. Is there a way to revert back to the version with my links on them or do I need to repost them? I have about 25 more as well. Thanks. Lvcasinoinfo
- How do we know the images are not copyrighted (all works in the U.S. are copyrighted by default even when released under licenses such as GFDL or Creative Commons)? Also, where does your site say it is non-profit? Also, your insertion of these links is in violation of WP:EL (part of the manual of style), under Links normally to be avoided #3. A single-purpose account or anonymous user adding links essentially brands the links as spam—Pseudomonas alluded to this fact when mentioning your lack of contributions to the project outside of these links. He was also very wise in asking you to release these maps: if you put a notice on your website stating that they are available under the GFDL or similar license, we'd gladly use them. BigNate37(T) 20:48, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Other than the fact that they have no copyright info on them, I dont "know" they are not copyrighted. They do, however, certainly fall under fair use. Since there is not a single ad on the site and I pay for the full cost makes it a non-profit website. I personally walk all over Vegas collecting these maps, I scan them and I host them on a server I paid for without taking a dime from anyone. I am not doing myself any favors posting these links here, I was offering them to increase the value of Wikipedia.
As I said, I do understand the concerns but the "shoot first, ask questions later" approach of deletions is brutal and being labeled a spammer simply because these were my first edits is quite insulting. I am sorry if I wasted anyones time on this whole thing. It won't happen again. Thanks. Lvcasinoinfo
- I never called you a spammer. I did, however, explain how your edits would be viewed by editors who patrol recent changes—link spamming is common and I thought it a good idea to let you know how your edits may be received. My saying or not saying that it looks like linkspam will not change how others see it. Now, I step over lines I don't know about as well, and there is no shame in someone letting you know that your edits were not compatible with existing policy or guidelines. I apologise if I offended you by referencing the manual of style, and I thank you for elaborating on the origin of these images in your most recent reply. Regarding your assertion of shoot first / questions later, all I can say is that when you added those links there was a bold line of text below the edit window: If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it. BigNate37(T) 02:14, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Where do you collect the maps from? If they were drawn by other people, then those people own the copyright. They may then decide to license them under GFDL or another free license, but unless the person who drew them has been dead for many decades, they're not public domain. Adding the copyright notice is helpful, but the absence of a notice does not mean absence of copyright. Whether you profit or not is not the issue here. Pseudomonas 10:58, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Point taken although I believe they still fall under the fair use rules. I don't want to put Wiki at any risk and I have no desire to jump through hoops to justify their existence. I will not try to post them again. Like I said, I have nothing to gain from this so there is no point in putting anyone in an awkward situation by pursuing it any further. I will be more than happy to accept the risk myself of having them posted on my own site as they have been for the past 5+ years. I appreciate the explanation. Lvcasinoinfo
ggggggrrrrrrrrrrr
I keep trying to make funny changes to the Tower Hill School page but it keeps changing. I go to that school and i want my friends to see that i have made that funny, because it is funny! Why do you, Pseudomonas, always change it and tell me not to? Anyone who visits that website will think it is hilariuos and free editing can also show endless expressions of style and humour. Isn't that what wikipedia is all about? People of TH visit that and think it is funny, it doesn't make them angry. A lot of people are actually angry at you Pseudomonas you wanna know why? because whatever they post, even if it is nice you say its vandalism. This wikipedia has turned into some crazy form of a DICTATORSHIP YES I REPEAT A DICTATORSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!! and so you don't have look it up, my account is Freemanshotgun. You can delete my account i dont care. I just wanted to get this little piece of my brain onto this website. Peace out asshole.
- Yes, dear. Pseudomonas 09:04, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Greg Theakston
re: db-bio As presented in the article, the individual did not seem noteworthy. However after some research, I agree that the article should be included. Similally the article on Samir_El-Youssef. Senordingdong 11:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- As presented in the article: He eventually illustrated over 500 paintings for dozens of publishers including Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Archie Comics, NATIONAL LAMPOON, THE NEW YORK TIMES, PLAYBOY, TV GUIDE, ROLLING STONE, and most major paperback publishers. Theakston was also a regular illustrator at MAD Magazine for a decade, 1986-1996. He has six lithographs in the collection of Museum of Modern Art. Greg has also developed a system to reconstructing lost comic pages for reprinting. "Theakstonizing" (a term coined by Dick Giordano) How could that *not* sound like a claim of notability? Pseudomonas 11:50, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- In 2005 he was the recipient of the Swedish PEN Tucholsky Award. sounds like a claim of notability to me. Pseudomonas 11:52, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Indian School
The article was tagged with a db-bio as a db-bio refers to a '"group of people". Admittedly, this tag was less appropriate for the Hi Television article. Senordingdong 11:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- A school is an institution, not a group of people like a club, a family, or a society. Pseudomonas 11:49, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
talk page
Is it against wikipedia policy for me to delete paragraphs of my talk page? By doing so, I am better able to keep track of currrent events. If people wish to see earlier edits, they need only to look in the history. After all, it is my talk page. This is not a rhetorical question, I really would like to know.Senordingdong 18:31, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- My understanding is that it's OK to archive off your talk page, providing a dated link to the archive, when it gets long, but not to blank the page. Your talk page seems quite short at the moment though - at this rate you might find that the archives build up rather fast. Pseudomonas 18:38, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Naturism
Hi, Pseudomonas. I reverted this edit of yours, since I think something went wrong. Your edit summary said you were removing a deleted category using AWB, but instead the edit involved replacing an external link with a redundant ISBN number. If you think my reversion was in error, I apologize. Powers T 16:23, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- You are quite right, the edit summary was completely wrong. I was using AWB, which has a drop-down box of common summaries, and I have a bad habit of jogging the box by accident and not noticing. The links I was replacing were ones to Amazon where the link didn't actually contain more information than the ISBN - since Amazon links are only good for people in the US who want to buy and useless for people who, say, want to find the book in a library in New Zealand. Pseudomonas 17:21, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough, but the ISBN was already listed. Powers T 19:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
- I guess in these cases just listing the ISBN is the best thing (unless of course one's referring to a particular feature of the Amazon site like the sales ranking or a review by someone notable.) Pseudomonas 20:22, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
