Please spell out acronyms everywhere. Remember this is the welcome page for newcomers. Jennifer Riggs (talk) 00:04, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Jennifer, that's a good principle! I'm going to tinker with the layout and content, so please don't be concerned if you see sudden drastic changes (and changes back). They may be careless and ill-advised changes as well. It's just my style to play with something to help me think through the possibilities. Proteins (talk) 14:32, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Random thoughts

[edit]
  • How much prior introduction to the MCB WikiProject can we assume in the readers of this page?
    • Should we make multiple front pages for different classes of editors, e.g., complete newcomers, beginners introduced at a workshop, and experienced MCBers?
  • Should we explain why they'd want to join the MCB WikiProject?
  • Add key to assessment table?

Notes to self

[edit]
  • Experiment with imagemaps, possibly as elements within tables; maybe good for MCB subtopic choices
  • Write script to count only MCB edits, i.e., those made to articles tagged with an MCB assessment.
  • Develop script to determine date of user's last MCB edit, or # of MCB edits in last 100 days (which people are still active in the WikiProject?)
  • Appending to the last section is possible using"&preloadtitle=".

Page views

[edit]

It's important to distinguish between Main page pageviews and pageviews of the featured article. For example, on June 9, 2009, the Main page had over 4 million pageviews, but the featured article, New York State Route 311, had only 24,400. That's far more than the article's norm of less than 15 pageviews, but still less than 1% of the Main page pageviews. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:27, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's a very good point, which I hadn't really thought through. You see that effect also for Cholangiocarcinoma, which also received roughly 20K hits, ~100x its usual rate of 200-something. Proteins (talk) 10:45, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
