AfD nomination of Ahipene-Mercer, Ray

[edit]

I've nominated Ahipene-Mercer, Ray, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Ahipene-Mercer, Ray satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ahipene-Mercer, Ray and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Ahipene-Mercer, Ray during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. east.718 06:03, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. I just voted for a keep on your article. I'm from a place (Alaska) where people like to claim our politicians, musicians, etc. aren't notable enough either, but I think the odds are in your favor. I'll be glad to help improve the article in the hopes it will make if over the top. Regards. --Ace of Swords 17:59, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Update. I've done some cleanup of sources, adding categories, etc. but because I'm not in New Zealand I have little or no access to New Zealand printed sources. I would recommend adding the actual authors and titles of articles mentioning him that you've found in the NZ press to fill out the citations. I've also listed the article at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New Zealand, where you might find more help. I'll see what else I can do too. I get so sick of people almost automatically proposing new articles for deletion without first writing to authors to see if there's a way they might improve or better source their articles! --Ace of Swords 20:07, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Ace of Swords I appreciate your help and support, especially as it comes from from Alaska. I have always wanted to visit and had heard the people were friendly! I've begun reading on the history of whaling in New Zealand, and there is an interesting Australia-NZ-Hawaii-Alaska route, almost matched by the later Australia - California - Alaska - NZ gold rush route. One day I may be able to do a Wikipedia article on it ... I am a bit puzzled by the "keep it out" approach - I thought that one of Wikipedia's great strengths was the possibility to expand into all sorts of interesting places and issues. Anyway I shall continue adding sources, especially when I work out how! Thanks again Projectbob 07:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I saw you had added new citations, and I went through and cleaned them up some. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources - it explains how to do citation in articles, including how to do footnotes using the <ref>...</ref> style in such a way that full info for a given source only has to be given once (using the formula <ref name="sourcename">) -- see my edits for how that works. Once you learn it, it's pretty easy.
I put a comment in the AfD debate on the article about the improvements that have been made. I don't understand the "keep it out" attitude either, but there are some editors who take it on themselves to look at all new articles as they're made and put AfD nominations on them at the least excuse. Although to be fair some article deserve deletion, but not this one. --Ace of Swords 20:32, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article looks very good now, and I've changed my vote on AfD to reflect this. Thanks! east.718 21:31, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:44070476512 0 ALB.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:44070476512 0 ALB.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:05, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
