[edit]Hello, Profire Energy. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Alexeyevitch(talk) 21:38, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Alexey,
- How can we go about updating our company page to be current, and accurate to what we do? Profire Energy (talk) 22:01, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Note that it's not "your company page", but an article about your company, no different than if The New York Times wrote about your company. You have no more rights to it as any other editor, even as an employee. Your suggestions are welcome, and you should do as you have been and make edit requests. But, the article will not simply be reworded as your company might prefer that it be reworded. The main purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage choose on their own to say about it. If there are inaccuracies, please tell what those are. 331dot (talk) 08:33, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi 331dot, I apologize for the improper language used and not following proper protocol. My intentions were good when I came to try and edit the page for the company Profire Energy. I have been tasked by my employer to try and bring the page up to date with more current information that accurately reflects the state of the company. My intention was not to be promotional. I also apologize for referring to the page as "our page" when that is not the case, my mistake with the language that was used.
- We have put together a document with all the updates and have sourced each update but now that I look through my sources, they are mostly press releases on the newswire. Which I now understand will not be accepted as they present a bias.
- How can we at the very least update the overview of the company to be more accurate? And is it possible to update the logo to a current version? What I am asking for is simply a little more guidance to enhance the page above what it is currently. I hope that makes sense. Thank you. Sush at Profire Energy (talk) 15:38, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- You are absolutely welcome to provide a logo for updating. You will need to upload it to this Wikipedia locally as a "fair use" image(do not upload it to Wikimedia Commons which is only for copyright free images). See WP:UPIMAGE for more information about uploading images.
- I will be frank- only with good intentions; Wikipedia is not interested in what any company wants to say about itself and what it does, that includes via press releases published elsewhere. That's what your own website is for. Wikipedia is primarily interested in what independent reliable sources say on their own about a company. Microsoft does not tell us what Microsoft thinks about what it does and its products, it says what others say that Microsoft does. Primary sources are only used in certain situations.
- That said, if there are gross inaccuracies in the article about your company, we want to know what thise are. You should continue to make edit requests, you may use those to request removal of information that is problematic, even without replacing it. 331dot (talk) 16:38, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you 331dot for the response and clarification. I will look to upload a new logo to be used.
- I understand what you are saying about how to approach edits. I will approach this in a different way in the hopes of providing valid information that respects Wikipedia's requirements. Sush at Profire Energy (talk) 16:43, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
