Hi. The sentence you want changed has a construction that might be ambiguous, but your requested change does nothing to resolve that ambiguity. "... by 1945, Germany had been defeated and occupied by four of the Allied powers" could mean that all of the allied defeated Germany and four of them occupied Germany or it can mean that only four of the allies defeated and occupied Germany. Obviously, the former is correct, but there is that degree of ambiguity. Please feel free to suggest a construction which clarifies this without removing the detailed list of occupiers.
