Wikipedia is an encyclopedia

[edit]
  • WP:NOTNEWSPAPER - Wikipedia is not a news source, we only cover what is notable in the long-run.
  • A subject is considered notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. "Significant" is understood on this site to mean that the coverage was not simply local papers for a short period of time, but something which is discussed in later days in a variety of sources.
  • Reliable sources typically include: articles from magazines or newspapers (particularly scholarly journals), or books by recognized authors (basically, books by respected publishers). Online versions of these are usually accepted, provided they're held to the same standards. User generated sources (like Wikipedia) are to be avoided. Self-published sources should be avoided except for information by and about the subject that is not self-serving (for example, citing a company's website to establish something like year of establishment).

While it is unfortunate that Shannan has disappeared, this is not the place to report it. Ian.thomson (talk) 15:18, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
