Sticking my finger in the DYK
Hello friendly adopter! =)
I've put my toe in the crazy waters of DYK to comment on some of the nominations there. Would you mind having a looksee at my comments at T:TDYK and send me any feedback you might have? Many thanks!-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 06:36, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- They look good to me. All of your comments address the issues or !issues and in the style that seems to be common there, so that's great. Good job getting involved in a new department! PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:31, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

- Indeed, good luck with DYK. I know nothing at all about it as I don't really get involved with the main page much so I can't really comment on your edits there. I answered you about that other matter on my talkpage, BTW --Jubilee♫clipman 01:22, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Shouting Business
:) Thank you. I liked reading that. And I'm glad that my signature catches you're eye. :) I think I'll change it to "Come shout at me" for obvious reasons. Anyhoo, thank you. :) ~~ Hi878 (Come yell at me!) 01:32, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

- Funny how I just mentioned the fact that you'd disappeared. Add Oh, and on User:Brambleclawx/newuserpage, I tried to use those navbox things you use don your userpage, but I couldn't get all the userboxes to fit... any idea how to keep the ubx's and CTable inside?Brambleclawx 23:58, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Nope. But I messed with it a little and did manage to get it spaced so that they aren't overlapping. Not quite as aesthetically pleasing, but readable. I can show you if you want. I'm terrible with tables and such. Oh, and Jubilee, thanks for the welcome back! I did have a very refreshing but slightly exhausting break. PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:32, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

My goal is to one day write a template that would do something like this:
“ | Sample text, blah, blah, blah.<ref name=Midnight>{{cite book|title=Warriors: Midnight|last=Hunter|first=Erin|isbn=1234567890123|page=21}}</ref> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.<ref>{{cite pages|name=Midnight|pages=55-60}}</ref>

- Creating templates is one of the hardest things you can do on WP. There is so much code that goes into them that they can end up almost impossible to understand from the edit window. Have a look at the coding for Template:Infobox Musical artist sometime! (It is fully protected but if you press "source" you will see the coding...) Editors often add too much coding to templates, actually, in the same way as programmers can end up writing too much code for the applications they are developing. OTOH, the simpler templates are not hard to create: my own User:Jubileeclipman/User carer was based on other templates an uses minimal coding. I'd start with something like that. BTW, WP:PED now Policy and the page fully protected; Slimvirgin has proposed a few tweaks to the wording but the page is now essentially binding. The Policy it describes has always been binding, of course --Jubilee♫clipman 08:28, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- What I mean for my template to do, is for both of those refs to generate [1], and link down to the {{|tl|reflist}}, and in the ref list, the page numbers would link to the appropriate reference, ie., 21 would link to sentence one, 55-60 would link to sentence two. It would come in especially handy on pages where we mainly cite one source, such as novel series character lists. Brambleclawx 14:49, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Wildscamp edits
The "vandalism" tag was accidental. I tend to revert COI editors like that as a matter of course, and in this case with especial vigor because they had turned the "article" into an advertisement. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:03, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- I have to respectfully disagree. Please look over their edits. For the most part they are minor: adjusting synonyms, swapping words for numerals, etc. This is the only questionable edit: [1] and it is borderline at best. While not all necessary, I do not see anything turning the article into an advertisement within their edits. Did you take the time to look through each of their edits before reverting? PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:35, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

- My stalkers will probably give you plenty of comments. I think it looks like a great start. Some reception info would be good, but it could be published as a stub/start class article right now. The refs could do with some reformatting - I did one as an example. The retrieved date I left blank as I don't know that. This gives a better example. Great start! - Yes, using the
{{Cite}}
template will be way easier. A good tool is REFLINKS, which you can quickly use to fill in bare links. To manually do it, look at your toolbar. See the cite button? I'll take a look at your page and see what I can do. Airplaneman ✈ 16:31, 20 June 2010 (UTC)- And what is the title of the book? It's unclear right now. Is it "Don't Touch Me" or "Here's the Deal"? How do I make the image on The Hunger Games trilogy smaller? --Glimmer721 (talk) 21:10, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I made it smaller for you, but in the coding: [[File:Example.jpg]], add |100px, so [[File:Example.jpg|100px]], which would make it 100px. You can change the number to resize the picture. I've reduced the picture you mentioned to 250px, feel free to adjust it as necessary. Brambleclawx 21:25, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Copyediting!
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. AirplaneProRadioChecklist 02:28, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'm still thinking about it. I'm fairly good at copyediting for spelling, but not as great with MOS stuff. However, if I do participate, Mono gets credit because he invited me first (at least I think that's the way it works). Sorry. Thanks for the invite! PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:35, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oh. What is MOS? (I borrowed the invite from Hereforhomework2 who put it on my user talk) AirplaneProRadioChecklist 03:07, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- Ah...she got it from Mono's here! MOS (or MoS) is short for Manual of Style, which is Wikipedia's guide to writing and formatting articles here. PrincessofLlyr royal court 03:21, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the response here. I was a bit taken aback at the response—you nailed it.--SPhilbrickT 11:02, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I was rather surprised at the seeming animosity myself. I think you brought up a perfectly reasonable concern and thankfully it seems as if others are taking it seriously. Upon reading the rest of the discussion, it seems more as if the strong reaction came as a byproduct of the controversy over his "RfA", not your suggestion, which makes it slightly more understandable, although not quite excusable. I'll be watching the discussion and hope something productive comes of it. PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:03, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

- Looks very flash :) (I decided I needed some new talk pages to stalk, sorry for butting in...) And well, as for RfA, it's (imo) easier to focus on non-"real work" things during one, as mucking those up won't cause any scandal :) sonia♫♪ 09:46, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yay! I love it. Thank you, PrincessofLlyr royal court 03:02, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- I have updated both your userpage and this page. Enjoy! —fetch·comms 01:06, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'll get to those changes soon. Actually, I lifted most of the code from other redesigns I did, and changed the layout and colors. —fetch·comms 21:12, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I just didn't feel comfortable piling on at Simple when I had so little experience there. And I'm still not sure how necessary more sysops are or what my position is on "users that could be admins, but if we don't need more admins", especially on Simple, where that seems more likely. Here, I read the candidate's answers, look through the supports to make sure there are plenty of trusted experienced users with good reasons to support and generally !vote based on that. I very seldom look through the candidate's contribs, although I do browse their userspace some. In that way I'm probably lazy in my RfA participation here. I just didn't feel comfortable doing that on Simple yet. And nerve-wracking, oh my! I got all the taste of that I wanted during Airplaneman's ill-fated RfA. I have no intention whatsoever of ever running myself. (Not just for that reason, although it is a factor) I'm glad everyone likes the new page - fetchcomms incorporated everything I requested perfectly. PrincessofLlyr royal court 21:58, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm. I think we could have too many 'crats, sure. There's not much more a crat can do than an admin. I wasn't intending to run for admin at all, actually, but five different users asked to nom me in the last two weeks. I felt there wasn't a need, but eventually I decided that it would probably be less trouble to everyone else if I could do my own imports and deletes and redirect-suppressed moves, so I accepted. I don't intend to use the more active tools (blocking, protection, giving out rights) much. In the end, we are all editors, and if the admins don't see it as a race to up their admin action count I don't see why it matters who deletes the page in the end. And as for experience, you're fine to !vote- fetchcomms, on the other hand, made me nervous when he did, because it now looks like I'm canvassing. sonia♫♪ 22:12, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes well, I bothered someone here when I was brand-new and !voted in an RfB (I think). I didn't even find the section where they were discussing me (on a totally unrelated talk page) until much later. Oh, and they even discussed the possibility of my being an spa. I was so new and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. It was quite the experience. But yes, I'll probably get on Simple and add my opinion at some point. I haven't given much consideration to the problem of too many admins, but should probably decide my opinion of it at some point. So far I've been of the opinion that there's plenty of work to go around, especially here. At Simple though, I could see a lot of En users showing up, editing awhile, and there being an overabundance of admins. Anyhow...those are my thoughts so far. And I'm definitely attracting a more serious class of stalkers when there are admins hanging out here! PrincessofLlyr royal court 22:37, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Your comments have been amazingly accurate, and I see your points. Keep up the good work at MOTD! Belugaboy 23:59, 14 July 2010 (UTC) |
P.S.You're wondering how I got to you. Simple. I've heard about you around Wiki and have seen you in MOTD. You've even reviewed my mottos, two of which have been published. KUTGW!Belugaboy
- Thanks! I do remember seeing you around. And good job with the mottos! I !vote, but as of yet I've only come up with one motto. And please, forgive my ignorance, but what does "KUTGW" stand for? Thanks again, PrincessofLlyr royal court 14:42, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Userboxes
Hey, on your user page it says to look "in the userboxes to the side", but now the userboxes are on the bottom. You should probably change that. ;) Derild4921☼ 13:17, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Motto Shop
Hello. I finished setting up the Motto Shop (because what Belugaboy had was unacceptable :P), and there is a request sitting there that hasn't been taken, and won't be by me by request of the requester. So if you would be interested, add your name to the list of participants, and then complete the request. The motto shop is located here, and I'd love if people other than me took requests, since I've already done two. :)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Hi878 (talk • contribs)
- Neat! I like the idea, but unfortunately I'm not that great at creating mottoes. I will keep an eye on it and pop in if I think of anything. Thanks for the notification! PrincessofLlyr royal court 19:15, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- You can still contribute, because people can request original mottos or quotes (or either). For instance, the one that I just did was a quote. And, even if you will only pop in when you think of something, you still could add your name to the list of contributors. :) ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 19:21, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello, pol. I see you've been a little more active over at simpleWiki. I was thinking about this particular user (he was previously named Polymath-SJ, if you can recall) and I'm a little worried about him. I think he's been having a rather rough time making his first step into the jungles of the simpleWiki, being blocked for sockpuppetry and so forth. He repeatedly created new sections on the Simple Talk page because he didn't understand the ins and outs of the wiki, such as the Changing Username policy and the thread about French stubs. He also tried to run for adminship, not knowing that he still hasn't been proficient enough or had enough trust with the community at large for them to allow him such a position; in fact, Clementina had rather politely asked him to decline for later (under the Not Now policy) and to wait patiently until his time comes. And now this user has moved to the big city of enWiki, and he's probably lost along the streets like a new tourist to NY. I feel like he needed my help, but now it seems that I don't have the time. And here's the request I want to make: would you be willing to guide him and mentor him throughout the Wikipedia here, and make sure that he doesn't get lost? Thanks for listening. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 16:50, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Ah yes. I have been seeing him quite a lot over on Simple. It looks like he needs as much help here as there. I will certainly keep an eye on him and offer my help (perhaps an adoption?). Thanks for letting me know. PrincessofLlyr royal court 17:07, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Barnstar for you
I think I'm OK. From time to time, I come and patrol. If I do need help, I will ask, though. thanks for the offer.

By the way, nice user page! I decided that the royalty of your royal user page should be rewarded with this barnstar (although it is a palace, it is the best I could find). When you are QueenofLlyr, may I be KnightofLlyr? Hazard-SJ Talk 17:52, 27 July 2010 (UTC) |
