Curling at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Hi! I was thinking of creating a separate qualification page for the Curling at the 2014 Winter Olympics page. It potentially would give us space to write out the whole qualification tournament and show some of the WC results. What do you think? Intoronto1125TalkContributions 02:40, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Hey! I had envisioned for the qualification tournament to be documented on a separate page, much like the World Wheelchair Curling Championship qualification event pages (e.g. 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship – Qualification Event). I'm not sure that there's really enough information for a separate qualification page apart from that... What kind of information did you want to put on a separate qualification page (besides the qualification tournament information)? Prayerfortheworld (talk) 03:29, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Okay I think its fair to have a separate article for the qualification event. I was thinking something along the lines of what was done for the baseball events in Beijing. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 05:34, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Ah, I see. I'm not sure that that format will work for this event, since it's just the one qualification event and the world championships (which we probably wouldn't need to do anything with), but if there's anything that comes up, we can definitely address that. Thanks for keeping tabs on the page! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 07:02, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Okay! Thank you! Should we add Latvia to the women's table? Intoronto1125TalkContributions 14:18, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Hmm... We could, but it's a tad early, so I might prefer to wait until the championships... Prayerfortheworld (talk) 21:21, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
I was thinking that too, but technically we do have the Latvian flag beside the 2013 date and they did end up receiving 0 points in 2012. Have you heard anything about the final qualification event? Intoronto1125TalkContributions 21:24, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
If I recall, Latvia didn't participate in the 2012 worlds, so they technically didn't receive any points in 2012, but if you'd like to put that on, I wouldn't object. It'd just be a bit strange. I haven't heard anything new yet... I think more information will be released after the worlds conclude, so I'll keep my eyes peeled. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 21:30, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

2013 Mixed

Hi, do you plan on adding a logo to the page like you've done before? -- Earl Andrew - talk 15:15, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I tried to look for a logo a while back, but I could only find a small one, and the text on that's barely readable... Would you happen to know where to find one? Prayerfortheworld (talk) 18:30, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Here's one: http://www.curling.ca/blog/2012/11/13/canadian-mixed-set-for-mount-royal-quebec/ It's in English, though- and it looks like they're using a French logo. -- Earl Andrew - talk 18:51, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I saw the French logo on the top of the page... I couldn't find any better versions of that logo, but the English one should suffice, right? Prayerfortheworld (talk) 21:15, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Yeah. Plus, TMR is historically an Anglo town (not anymore though). :-) -- Earl Andrew - talk 21:31, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Oh? Interesting... didn't know. :P Prayerfortheworld (talk) 00:45, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

November 2012

Hi there, I am very new to Wikipedia but I created a page on a Wheelchair Curler World Champion - Angie Malone. She also competed at the 2012 World Wheelchair Curling Championships - a page you created however your link from her name (Angela Malone) goes to the wrong page. I don't know how to change this, as you will see if you visit the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angie_Malone - theres lots of links to other people needed there also! I hope you don't mind me pointing this out, I would also appriceate any help or advice on the page I created

Many thanks Aberdeencashew (talk) 17:08, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello! First off, thanks for your contributions! I've changed the link on the 2012 World Wheelchair Curling Championship page (and other pages) to point to the page you created. Basically, this is called disambiguating. As for the article, it looks good, and I'd recommend that you take a look at the article guidelines for articles on curlers for information on how to format the article, etc. I've made a few additions to the article that should help you get started. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 22:23, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Spruce Grove Cash spiel 2012

Hi,

You DID NOT make a mistake in what you had BEFORE.

However, the World Curling Tour website recently updated their rosters correctly - as some smaller spiels don't have all the names until the spiel is over due to entries being entered over the phone and only taking the entrant's name. ie. Aaron Bartling is the third of team Rogers.

I simply updated the rosters and made appropriate changes to the standings and so forth. I also changed the hex color to make it easier to see for the teams that made playoffs.

You can check the World Curling Tour website for the 2012 Spruce Grove Cashspiel here: http://worldcurl.com/events.php?task=Event&eventid=2894

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.149.102.221 (talk) 01:38, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello! I realized that the updated teams were on the WCT site after I had removed those edits, so I reinstated the edits you made to the team rosters, standings, etc. The colors for the teams that made the playoffs don't need to be changed, though. Thanks for your edits! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 01:52, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Turkish national teams

Hi, I have noticed an editor has created articles on the Turkish national women's and men's curling teams. We have held off on creating articles on national teams, because of the nature of curling. I would suggest merging the articles into a new article called "Curling in Turkey". It would make more sense. What is your take? -- Earl Andrew - talk 13:23, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey! Yeah, I saw that earlier, and I didn't know what to think of it. To be honest, I'd really like to see "Curling in Canada," "Curling in Scotland," "Curling in the United States," etc. before "Curling in Turkey," since they're more notable and can be filled with more information, but I would definitely agree with creating a "Curling in Turkey" article. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 18:23, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Would you be alright with me merging those pages then? -- Earl Andrew - talk 19:29, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

2001 Nokia Brier

Hi. Regarding my removal of links on the 2001 Nokia Brier page (and several other Brier-related pages that I've edited, as well): I simply don't understand the need for dozens of links to pages that do not presently exist. I'm a big fan of links when they actually lead somewhere, but when pages have numerous dead end links, I find it ruins the aesthetics of the page, and more importantly, can be confusing to someone who is a Wikipedia/internet novice. I don't pretend to know (or care) about the standard Wikipedia guidelines for creating links for non-pages -- I just went with what seems logical to me.

Rest assured, I have no intention to start a link edit war -- I just wanted to explain my stance since your edit contained the description "unexplained removal of links".

Enjoy the World Championships. :) Drpickem (talk) 13:32, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for posting your comments. I really appreciate that. While I do sympathize with your reasoning, I had to insist on replacing the links. We (some of the curling editors from WP:CURLING, that is) are trying to get more of these (notable) biographical articles created, and the red links are actually pretty helpful with cross-referencing everything. We'll try our best to get those pages up as soon as possible. Thanks, and same to you! Happy editing! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 20:18, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Jamie Sinclair

What's your source for the changes to the team line-up for Jamie Sinclair? Eric Cable  |  Talk  15:30, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

The World Curling Tour's teams list for the 2013–14 season. I'm assuming that that's the same Jamie Sinclair, since it seems to check out with her page on the World Curling Tour website. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 23:14, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm... If you look at her website she's still the skip. Maybe she's moved up to womens (as opposed to juniors). Eric Cable  |  Talk  13:11, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
I guess I could email her and ask her. Eric Cable  |  Talk  13:12, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
I think it's probably correct, although I suppose that the fact that the website doesn't match it can cause a little bit of doubt. It's kind of the same for Desirée Owen (according to the WCT, she joined Lisa Eyamie, but her site still has her as skip). Prayerfortheworld (talk) 13:35, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Fedex matches

Hi, I'm an Wikipedian from the the Czech Wiki, and I'm preparing reconstruction of Fedex articles. You are interested in tennis and you created e.g. 2013 RF season. So I'd like ask you one question. Do you know, why is there missing some number of matches in the table? I think successsion 1, 2, 3 ... 7, or 42, 43 ... 68? If I view the stats source Federer/Activity/View All, there is no match hiatus. Thank you very much. Yours sincerely, --Misbeliever (talk) 22:35, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello! I wasn't involved in editing Federer's season articles until the 2011 season, so I'm not sure why the numbering was done that way. I believe there's an inconsistency in the match numbering, since the match numbers at the end of the 2010 article do not match with the ones at the beginning of the 2011 article. I'm quite sure that the numbers in the 2011 article and onward are correct, but the ones in the articles before 2011 are incorrect. I'll have to do a little more checking, but I think that should explain the jumps in the numbering. Thanks for bringing this up, and happy editing! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 01:38, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, yes, I know that numbering since 2011 season is different. In my view Junior Career table is a little bit "nonsense", there are e.g. involved 3 matches of Touluse Tourn (130–132, TE = probably "tennis exhibition"). So, on the Czech Wiki I try to correct the numbering. --Misbeliever (talk) 10:29, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

What was "unnecessary" about this? I corrected the date format, tense, capitalisation and line breakage, as well as the spelling of some names and introduced a better sortkey for Category:Tennis at the 2013 Summer Universiade (X for Mixed Doubles). You unnecessarily reverted my edit, then went on to re-introduce the correct tense and the spelling of Kateřina Vaňková. What about the rest? Sort it out; and be careful when reverting good faith edits, not to mention ones which actually help the layout of the article. Jared Preston (talk) 06:57, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I reverted your edit mainly due to the capitalization issue. I neglected to notice the correction of diacritics and the sortkey addition. I have edited the article to include those changes, and I apologize for that. I must point out, however, that the capitalization of the rounds in the seeds section is the format used across WP:TENNIS articles. Also, I felt that the date format was fine as is. As for spacing, I feel that it's a subjective matter, since the spacing changes don't affect the look of the article once it's been published. However, I will point out that adding a line break after the draw key template introduces extra, unnecessary spacing after the article is published. Thank you for your contributions, and happy editing! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 19:39, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Curling at the 2011 Winter Universiade, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page FISU (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
