Phoroptor edits

Hello Prashanthns,

I'm not a wikki expert, so please have patience with me.

I noticed you undid some recent edits I made to the Phoroptor (Phoropter) page.

I am the Marketing Manager for Reichert, inc and we own the IP on Phoroptor. I have documentation to prove that we own a registered trademark on the name, shape, and configuration of this instrument.

The term "phoropter" (with an "er" at the end) has found it's way into the vernacular, but it is not a legitimate term.

This is a significant issue for our company (like Kleenex and Xerox) and we want to protect our IP.

I would like to incorporate these changes again. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks Mosfet32 (talk) 14:44, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the detailed query on my talk page. I am not a wiki expert either, but I am sure we can resolve this problem easily. Firstly, I would like to point out that we never actually put in original work here on wikipedia. Only information for which there are reliable sources can be put in, referencing these sources. In the case of the Phoropter article, you will see that I have only put in the information based on a reliable internet source, in this case from Stedmans' Medical Dictionary, which I am sure you are aware, is a standard and reliable dictionary used world over for technical medical words! You will find the reference to the phoropter term here. However, I see that you point out to IP rights over the use of the term. I am not really sure if your IP exists over a version of the phoropter or on the term phoropter itself. If there is some publicly available information about your IP on the word phoropter (not a model of the phoropter!), share the link on the talk page of the article here. Hope this helps. Cheers. prashanthns (talk) 14:53, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Prashanthns,

Thanks for the quick reply. We own both the word Phoroptor and the shape and configuration of the instrument itself. The word "Phoropter" is a mis-spelling of phoroptor, but it has become accepted over the years and appears in many places, even medical dictionaries, as you have pointed out. It looks like I have some research to do before I edit the post further! All the best63.122.109.234 (talk) 15:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

No problem. Cheers. Berne three-step test might be of help, so might be this. prashanthns (talk) 15:46, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you!

A Land Without a People

Someone else removed it earlier on the basis that the source had already been quoted in an earlier part of the article which I agreed with. I was angry because Elan26 decided to arbitrally remove all the tags on the article in an attempt to whitewash the articles history and the fact that it was created by a troll with an agenda. However, I guess if you want to put that paragraph back in I wouldn't object, I just don't want the tags removed.annoynmous 22:17, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

The peer review recommends a longer lead, you have put a lead too long tag, please reconsider. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 07:50, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for a note here. The peer review of the article recommended that the lead be more accessible and present an overview of the article rather than be long and essay-like. Presented below is the relevant extract:

The lead should be an accessible and inviting overview of the whole article. Nothing important should be in the lead only - since it is a summary, it should all be repeated in the body of the article itself. My rule of thumb is to include every header in the lead in some way. Please see WP:LEAD

I feel that the lead in the present form is not a very good summary of the article. I will try and improve it myself soon. If you disagree, please dont hesitate to remove the tag. Even I am sometimes uncomfortable with tags remaining for too long. On the contrary, if you feel that the tag remaining for a few days will encourage some other editor to work on the lead, then we could leave it for a month or two and see. prashanthns (talk) 07:59, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

I am myself not happy with the lead, see this, also I refered to this peer review, which says,
Please expand the lead to conform with guidelines at Wikipedia:Lead. The article should have an appropriate number of paragraphs as is shown on WP:LEAD, and should adequately summarize the article.[?]

Baza

"Hi. What was this actually?"

A note for a reference to be used in this article. The ref discusses synonymy, but it is very obscure and minor issue, for which the article has to grow a bit before it can be added. This way, the reference will not be forgotten, and when the article is long enough, it can be used. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 13:46, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Karunatrust.jpg)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Karunatrust.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 22:17, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

This was a mistaken upload. I have uploaded a png version of this file which is not orphaned. This may be deleted. Thanks!prashanthns (talk) 05:30, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of File:Black eagle.JPG

A tag has been placed on File:Black eagle.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. prashanthns (talk) 15:45, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
