Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Blocked

[edit]

You have been blocked in the past for copyright violations, and afterwards you have been warned when you once again added copyvios. Your latest article, Alexander Moore (soldier), once again contained lots of text taken completely from another site. You have now been blocked indefinitely. Fram (talk) 14:36, 23 January 2019 (UTC) [reply]

This blocked user is asking that their block be reviewed on the Unblock Ticket Request System:

Unjust Deletion

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Powder River 1876 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

This account has been blocked unjustly. In the 275 pages I have created or edited I have always cited my sources and had them thoroughly written. I am a young researcher, and much of my work has come from original research on little-known historical topics and individuals. The page Alexander Moore (soldier) was deleted unjustly and left without a record. I have worked very hard to help others learn and receive no reward for my contributions. I would please ask that my account be restored. It is simply unjust to let one administrator delete the account of an individual who has contributed to this community for five years and asked nothing in return. I have only the best intentions in mind. Thank you, Powder River 1876 (talk) 03:43, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You were blocked after continuing to make copyright violations after being warned not to. You're going to need to convince us that you understand WP:NOR and WP:COPYVIO before anyone considers unblocking you. OhNoitsJamie Talk 06:49, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I am sorry. I did not act as I should have. I promise I will do my best to follow all guidelines according to WP:NOR and WP:COPYVIO. I only ask that you give me once more chance to prove myself. Please forgive me. I only want to help, and from now on will strive to do better. Thank you. Powder River 1876 (talk) 07:01, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. To allow the reviewing administrator to assess your understanding, please respond to the following questions in your next unblock appeal, explaining in your own words:

  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. Yunshui  09:57, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Please consider this unblock request. 1. (removed copyright violation) 2. Wikipedia is licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Public License, which is protected by copyright law. This allows fair use of copyrighted sources under Wikipedia's policy. 3. Copyrighted content is not allowed on Wikipedia because copyright violations harm Wikipedia's redistributability and create legal issues. 4. We can use copyrighted content if it is a brief quotation used in accordance with Wikipedia's non-free content policy and guideline. Short excerpts of copyrighted text may be used to illustrate a point, establish context, or attribute a point of view or idea. 5. I intend to follow Wikipedia's fair use policy on copyright and only use brief quotations from copyrighted material. Thank you, Powder River 1876 10:53, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You committed a copyright violation during your request to be unblocked for copyright violations. Your answers were contradictory; for example, you say copyrighted content cannot be used, then you later say copyrighted content can be used. You indicate Wikipedia content is licensed under the "Creative Commons Public License" but in fact, Wikipedia text is licensed under "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License". Given the combination of mistakes, including continued copyright violation, I have revoked your access to this talk page to prevent you placing Wikipedia at further risk. This leaves you with WP:UTRS. Yamla (talk) 18:03, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Hohman marker.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hohman marker.jpg, which you've attributed to http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=80421323&PIpi=62844619. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Felix QW (talk) 16:34, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
