thanks for relinking the consulates page for houston. i was worried that it had been erased.

Texas Medical Center

I'm curious why my site continues to be removed and labled as a spam site? I first added my site in July of 2005, and in fact someone actually removed my site from the discription I wrote of it and place d tmc.edu in its place. The goal of my site is to provide health information to the public via articles and forums. I hardly see how that equates to spam. See for yourself http://www.houstonmedcenter.com

hmc 18:03, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I did. You are using the Houston and Texas Medical Center articles as a means to promote your site, which is primarily ads and links to other services that are part of Google's AdWords system. Please review Wikipedia:External links for more information. Postoak 20:33, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Houston, Texas

Please come to the talk page of the Houston, Texas article. There is an ongoing discussion as a user is challenging the neutrality of the article. Thanks! RJN 00:40, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

RE:Houston pic

Which would you prefer to be the picture for the lead section? The third picture has been on the Houston page since early 2005—I got tired of seeing it. I changed to the middle picture because of its angle and quality. I'll be glad to change it if you think the first or third one would be better. You can reply on here as I will be watching your talk page. —RJN 23:31, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

I think the third picture looks the best, but the first also looks good. Since you would like a change, how about the first picture? Thanks, and keep up the great work on the Houston article. Postoak 08:36, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Template:Good article

Template:Good article has been listed for deletion and has defaced the Houston page article of it. Please vote to keep this template at Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2006_March_25#Template:Good_article. The {{good article}} template places a small Good Article symbol (Plus icon) in the top right corner of an article to indicate that it is a good article on Wikipedia. —RJN 10:49, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof Registration

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof; however, I'm afraid I can't approve you to use it. You only have 156 mainspace edits (188 in all namespaces), which I'm afraid is far below the necessary limit (250 in main). Please continue to contribute to Wikipedia, revert vandalism, and gain experience and knowledge about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines; then you may gladly resubmit your name (probably 2 weeks or more). Please understand that VP could be quite harmful if its users lack sufficient knowledge about how Wikipedia works, especially as it is currently in an early development phase and may contain bugs to which editors will need to respond adequately. Anyway, if you're still interest, please apply again in a couple of weeks, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 07:13, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I knew it might be an uphill battle placing the link on here. Thank you for your consideration anyways.

PostOak,

I've been a long time lurker on wikipedia and know that you contribute a lot of your time to the Houston page. Thank you for that. I wanted to discuss my link to www.west-houston.com/map.aspx which would be nearly impossible to put on the Houston wiki page. It has in my opinion both unique content, and a good basis of reasoning for it to belong.

There are no other databases for Houston new construction like the one I have compiled. It is a great tool for people to use that are looking for reliable information on new construction communities. Not only can you compare these communities by price range, but for each individual community of West Houston you can look at pictures, obtain directions, and search for resale homes in these communities. I do not require any type of registration or log-in to access any of this information. Nor do I have any reason to ever be biased towards and particular community as I have included all the home sites that I have visited. I am also linking to the applicable page rather than my general home page.

Please visit my site, and take this into consideration. I believe that the link is a rare exception because of it's direct relation and is rich in content. Many links such as the sports, colleges, and private schools could be held as being commercial businesses to a degree as well.

I hope we can come to an agreement or alternate solution on this issue.

Regards

Joshua Manuel

RE: Houston, healthcare section

Reads:

It is where one of the first, and still the largest, air emergency service was created—a very successful inter-institutional transplant program was developed—and more heart surgeries are performed than anywhere else in the world.

Should we replace the dashes with commas? Does this look right to you? Thanks Postoak 23:27, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

It looks right to me. If you can come up with something better and less confusing, then of course change it. Anyway, User:Daniel2986 has the same user page as yours—well almost the same. There is another discussion on Talk:Houston, Texas. —RJN 08:10, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the Barnstar award regarding the Houston, Texas article. In return I award you a barnstar for the edits you have made to the Texas Medical Center article.

Houston, Texas

I have been editing the Houston article since May of 2005—I was under a different username then—and it has come a long way. Take a look here to see what the article was like one year ago today on June 11th. I took your advice and shortened some of the history, geography, and education sections. In addition, I dissolved the trivia section. The article was 74 kilobytes and is now 71 kilobytes—not much of a difference. Also, there are three new images in the history section. —RJN 07:15, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

FA Schedule?

Regarding User_talk:XxTrillvillexX9, is there a schedule for the peer review of Houstonor will the article undergo the peer review whenever the contributors decide it's ready? I've done a little bit in the climate section but also intend to work on the history section. Thanks. Ufwuct 23:21, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Houston

Thank you for making your blatant violation of WP:NPOV with the page Houston,Texas on Wikipedia. Your lack of neutrality has been noticed, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the neutral point of view page if you would like to learn more about being neutral when contributing to our encyclopedia. Kramden4700 10:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

A personal response about the above accusation, I have never vandalized a page or knowingly violated any policies here at Wikipedia. I simply reverted a change (that had no edit summary or talk page discussion, based on the nature of the change) that had been in place for well over a year. The revert notice that I placed on Kramden4700's talk page was of the "experiment..your test was reverted" variety. NO mention of vandalism or violation. I feel that I followed WP:AGF here. Thanks Postoak 22:58, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Postoak, you have acted with politeness and sincerity in the face of sarcasm and unfounded accusations. You have done nothing wrong in my opinion. Don't sweat it; it appears the situation has apparently already taken care of itself. Ufwuct 01:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Houston article experience requested

Postoak, do you remember if there was a reason for saying "illegal immigrants" instead of "immigrants" in this section of the Houston article. "Illegal immigrants" appears to have been in place since May (when I registered), but seems slightly POV without a reference (a reference that attributes the growth in the Hispanic population primarily to illegal immigrants (and not to natural population growth and/or legal immigration). In the talk pages, there is only one mention of this issue. I just wanted to tap your memory to see if there was reason for saying "illegal immigrants". Also, I have provided a source for the other deleted claim. Thanks for your time. Ufwuct 23:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Ufwuct, I don't recall any reason why immigrants were described this way. I would agree that a source should be provided for this claim. Thanks Postoak 02:54, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

HISD Administration

I'll see if I can get a better shoot of the Admin building. The thing is that I live far away from there - I start school tommorrow - And I have college application stuff to do. Hopefully I will get a chance to take another shot of it. I literally snapped a photograph of that building from the passenger side of a car (that explains the out of focusness) WhisperToMe 19:19, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Houston history

Ideal article size is 32kb; however, I fully concede that this may not be a reasonable expectation for city articles. Therefore, I consider NYC's very admirable 58kb for the country's largest city (and one of the oldest and most important) to be a cap. My main problem with the Houston article is that all the sections have been split off into their own articles without trimming the main page. This completely defeats the point of doing this. Also, the history could easily be condensed since I think there are other aspects of Houston more important to the article.--Loodog 01:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use images

Thanks for uploading Image:MemorialPark2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a free image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. School IPs of the Houston area

Hey, Postoak! I found some school IP ranges for school districts and private schools in the Houston area...

That way, if you find a vandal - It may be from one of these Ips.. WhisperToMe 02:17, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Holla

I scratch your back, you scratch mine? I think that if we're both serious and beneficial contributors to the Wikipedia, that lending each other a hand would be refreshing. If you'd like, you and I can do the following:

You pick out a complete crap article about Houston and sic me on it. Houston is not my territory and editing an article would require lots of research.. but I'm good at researching and writing up well referenced prose about any topic if I have incentive enough. In this case, incentive is you providing a similar service. We each pick out one article (something limited in scope, not our goliath history subpages or our main city articles) and we'll get to work.. Mini-collaborations. Every time one of us requests an article improvement binge, the other gets to do it right back. Sound good? If so, give me your worst and I'll give you mine.

Also.. I've practically singlehandedly built WikiProject Dallas from the ground up in the past few weeks (though the cited start date is May.. the project was dormant for a long time). If there's anything you want help on in terms of project/administrative development at WikiProject Houston (templates, etc) just let me know.

By the way, love the use of Trebuchet at the talk page ;) drumguy8800 C T 07:38, 8 November 2006 (UTC

OK, sounds like a plan. I'll see what I can find that could use some help. You've done a fantastic job with WP:DALLAS in such a short period of time. The templates are awesome. Your efforts there were an incentive for me to get WP:HOUSTON going. Thanks! Postoak 02:22, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks :D. We're currently holding voting sessions on these (3) proposals to WikiProject Dallas. Of course it's not an obligation that you vote, but if all members have either voted or abstained the proposals can be closed early and work can get started. I have an article I'm eyeing whenever you do. drumguy8800 C T 10:24, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

POV edit

Haha, I was just looking at the history of the Houston Culture article and I noticed an edit you made with an edit summary "removed POV statements." Do you seriously think "can-do attitude" and "cosmopolitan" are any more verifiable and NPOV than "low-density" and "car culture"? I'm not bashing on you at all, it's habit to make something out to be awesome when that's your perception of it. I find myself sugarcoating a lot in edits to Dallas articles. Anyways, cheers! drumguy8800 C T 02:10, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I toned that "can-do" stuff down after reading it several times. However, this editor was claiming bias after some quite bizarre edits (check the talk page) which made me wonder who really was biased. Hmmm...maybe I've found the article for you..lol Postoak 02:36, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

VP

I was just wondering why you withdrew your request for approval? what issues are you talking about? Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 05:26, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I suppose that I'm impatient. I also noticed on the approval page that requests were being dropped or lost. Thanks anyway. Postoak 06:16, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Request were not droped when I took over the Mod position I did a mass approval and durring the welcome phase (users were all approved) it did not welcome everyone. (bug) and that we are moving to vp 1.3 from 1.2.2 and we just merged the lists this caused some technical issues but I am repairing them. I also try to do the approvals at least once a week. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 06:28, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

if your still intrested I can approve you Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 15:56, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
I've settled with another utility, thanks anyway. Postoak 03:06, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Houston-stub

Hi - thought I should tell you that your new stub type is now listed at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type was never proposed as a new type at WP:WSS/P (which it should have been, as explained in, among other places WP:STUB, at the top of Category:Texas stubs, and on the {{Wikiproject}} template used in the creation of new WikiProjects. and does not currently appear to have the necessary stubs for a separate stub category - of the five stubs currently marked with the template, four are actually geo-stubs and therefore shouldn't be in a specific city category (they would be marked with either a state-geo-stub template or - if the state is split into separate county-geo-stub types, by county. Even if they were considered, the number of articles is well below the number required for a separate stub category. Grutness...wha? 06:16, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

PS - sigh... looks like someone removed that information from {{WikiProject}}. Grutness...wha? 06:19, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
This is a new project, that is why the stub isn't on very many articles. My assumption is that you would place this stub on project related articles that have not been developed. Postoak 06:24, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Houston Assessment

Well like I've mentioned before, there's a great system set up by WP:1.0. Basically you list your project as having an assessment department at wherever the master list of wikiprojects is (i forgot, there's a directory somewhere.. i believe if you go to Wikipedia:WikiProjects you can find it) and Mathbot will begin watching certain categories to update a master list. If you look at the coding for the Dallas template, you'll see that depending on the importance/quality scale, the template adds category tags to the pages. An example is Category:Stub-Class Dallas articles. Anyway the bot runs through the category and makes easy lists like this. If you scroll down the page, you'll see the table representation of all the data.. you can also of course see article-quality things in their repsective categories.

Also you should integrate an optional commenting feature on the template so that people can suggest ways to improve.. the Dallas template checks to see if there's a rating, and if there is it suggests that the user add comments, if there is no rating and no comments it suggests rating and then commenting, and if there are comments it displays them and allows users to add to it. The comments are also shown in the tables that Mathbot creates. (Mathbot updates the entire thing daily, btw.) Anyway.. it's not all that terribly complicated a process.. and I'd expect by 'simple' you want something that's less busy than the Dallas template? That can be arranged.. there are plenty of projects that have very simple boxes that also integrate the rating feature. I'll gladly do all the work for you.. however I'm not going to tonight. It'll be tomorrow (well, later today.. its 4AM). Once you have it set up the system works wonderfully :) Mathbot is an excellent tool. drumguy8800 C T 10:03, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Created it for you. drumguy8800 C T 19:41, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Good call

Good call with your edit to remove the Enron tidbit. New York City doesn't mention Michael Milken and Chicago doesn't mention John Wayne Gacy...well you get the point. Thanks again.Ufwuct 06:28, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I didn't sound right leading into that paragraph, so I moved it to "The new millenium" section. Do you think I should take it back out? Postoak 06:33, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
I think there's more context now. It remains to be seen whether this bit should stay in the History section as time goes on. Ufwuct 18:09, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

About the Wikiproject

How do I add the Wikiproject links to Pasadena ISD, Dobie HS, Pasadena Memorial HS, Clear Creek ISD, Clear Lake HS, Katy ISD, Mayde Creek HS.. etc? (for other districts and schools that serve Houston) WhisperToMe 07:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Please add {{WPHouston|class=X|importance=y}} where X = assessment rating, y = importance rating) to the top of each article talk page. More info on the rating scale can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Houston/Assessment. I feel that you are the education subject matter expert in the project, so please take a look at these articles and assess them if you can. POV statement in Van Gundy article

Thanks for deleting that POV piece in the Van Gundy article. I was hoping someone else had found it as a bit biased too. I didn't know if it was okay to take it fully out though (Still really new at this stuff...) :) FamicomJL 03:47, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

RE: Are you back?

Well I didn't plan on coming back. I am currently writing a paper for a class, but I got bored and started editing again :( I'll edit more after December 13th once I am done with my final exams. I hope to graduate from college by then. Thanks for the welcome back message! —RJN 05:58, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

It's good to see you back! Postoak 06:04, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I am just wondering... Did you ever study Thomas Hobbes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and John Locke when you were in school? If not, do you have interests or know much about these three people? I am asking if you can help me with a final exam review for my POLS 3343: Political Thought from Machievelli and the Rennaisance class.

Other than that, what do you think about a Houston Wiki meetup? I think it would be fun to meet other editors and we can pick a place somewhere in Neartown or something. :) —RJN 06:11, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't even recall taking a political science course, although I'm sure I did way back then. Wish I could help. I'm a Microbiology major..I could help you identify gram-negative rods or diplococci. lol Postoak 06:28, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I am not a political science major either. My concentration is in accounting and I am having a hard time with this political science course—it's for my European Studies minor. Right now, I am comparing and contrasting the views of Rousseau and Locke regarding property. Political philosophy is hard and I made a big mistake signing up for this class! When did you graduate from UH? You do not have to answer. —RJN 06:35, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm borderline elderly, I graduated in 1982. Actually, seems like the other day. I once made the mistake of signing up for an Italian course. That didn't help my GPA very much. I went to UH-D later after graduating to work on an IT degree which just about killed me. Postoak 06:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
That's okay. I have a friend who is 40 something. He started UH around 1981 or so. —RJN 07:14, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

A wiki meeting would be interesting..Postoak 06:30, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it would be! —RJN 06:35, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
We need to try this sometime. What place in Neartown do you suggest? Postoak 07:33, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Maybe some coffee shop or restaurant off of Westheimer Rd. I don't drink coffee by the way, but I like being in that type of setting to people watch. :) I am usually in or around Neartown a lot on Friday nights. What do you think? —RJN 07:40, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good, we'll have to try some Friday night. Isn't there a Starbucks or something near Montrose and Richmond by the University of St. Thomas? I do drink coffee but would prefer a margarita :) Postoak 07:53, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, there is a Starbucks near there. I don't drink alcohol, but I do go to bars to people watch. I don't mind if people drink or smoke though. —RJN 07:56, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Probably a Starbucks would be better since some of the Houston wiki editors may not be able to enter a bar. What is the age now, 18 or 21? Postoak 08:14, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
The age to get into a bar is 21—I am 23. Do you frequent bars often on Friday nights? Maybe we have crossed paths. Hehe. —RJN 08:18, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Lately, not very often. Besides my LIS job, I have a business that I run and that keeps me busy. Now if you were out partying in the 80-90s then we probably did cross paths, but I don't think that could have been possible. Where do you like to go? (and you don't have to answer) :) Postoak 21:27, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
My favorite place to go in that area is Number's—an alternative club/bar—because I like the people and music there. I like going to other alternative places—coffee shops and bars—around there as well. —RJN 22:09, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Numbers's...I know it well, or at least I used to decades ago. I used to hang out there with friends. Postoak 22:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
