YouTube videos

Thank you for taking up an issue with polite debate. The reason that I removed the YouTube videos is that the guide says that external links are for giving extra information about the subject of an article - I (perhaps wrongly) interpreted that to mean that links on narrow subjects should not be added as they do not cover the broad subject of the town.

Looking at WP:EL again, I think links on subjects like history can be justified if they add detail to a part of an article - I've looked at the section and arranged it into groups, of which the videos fit into 'local history'. The guide says: "This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright." However, the video is an original creation, so there are no copyright issues as once on YouTube a work is considered 'published'. I have always thought that YouTube links should be avoided almost always, but reading the guide again, I was wrong. Thanks for that. I have a lot to learn about editing, protocol, etc. For instance I found navigating the talk pages frustrating, and naively was looking for a simple "reply" button! I take it you are the main contributor for the Weymouth pages. Portland7 (talk) 22:02, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Welcome, and thank you for your attempt to lighten up Wikipedia. However, this is an encyclopedia and the articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to The London Eye. Readers looking for accurate information will not find them amusing. If you'd like to experiment with editing, try the sandbox, where you can write practically anything you want.
