Your edits to Cygnus X-1
[edit]Hello,
You may want to read through the Extinction (astronomy) article. Extinction is dimensionless (in the same sense as B-V colour) and is a measure of reddening, rather than a magnitude difference. if you check astronomical papers (e.g. here), they don't list units for extinction. It is just listed as a value.
- Never mind: I was thinking of Rv rather than Av. Sorry.—RJH (talk) 19:18, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Also please take a look through the Wikipedia:Manual of Style, which this page was extensively edited to follow. Thank you.—RJH (talk) 17:39, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Re: V838 Monocerotis
[edit]I'm not entirely sure why you added a fact tag to V838 Monocerotis, but if I had to guess, you might have been concerned with the term "unprecedented". The source at the end of the paragraph (a common place to find a reference when looking for one) summarizes in the abstract of the paper, "These characteristics indicate that V838 Mon represents a hitherto unknown type of stellar outburst, for which we have no completely satisfactory physical explanation." This is the very definition of the term "unprecedented". If this does not address the issue that concerned you, please comment on Talk:V838 Monocerotis. Thanks. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
