Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Crystalredshrimpeatingmolt2.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Crystalredshrimpeatingmolt.jpg. The copy called Image:Crystalredshrimpeatingmolt.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. The spam issue

[edit]

Ryan, it's not just me and other editors. You've managed to trigger one of the despamming bots, too. That actually takes a fair bit of work to do. Yes, you've got a useful website. Yes, you sell some excellent shrimp (and I regret that my policy of never doing business with spammers will prevent me from buying any). But what you're doing is still not permitted.

Please read the policies on spam and external links. The part that is particularly relevant to this situation: You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent, even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked. If the link is to a relevant and informative site that should otherwise be included, please consider mentioning it on the talk page and let neutral and independent Wikipedia editors decide whether to add it.

Your photos are another problematic issue. For one thing, you're using them to promote your website yet again. The URL needs to come out of there. You also need to take a look at the non-free content policy. Although you're referring to it, that is meant to cover fair-use cases, not a photographer's own images. The critical part: Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose. Free pictures of the shrimp are available elsewhere. I could take some myself that would be good enough to serve the purpose, even though they're not as good as yours. Since you are the photographer, you could release the rights to the images you choose to contribute to Wikipedia (minus that advertising) and they'd be free. What you can't do, though, is put the images in Wikipedia but still claim proprietary rights to them. They're incredible pictures (especially the snowball eggs with eyes) but you either have to release them or remove them. If you have any questions about this, ask on my talk page.

Ryan, if you want to contribute, that's great. You have a lot of knowledge, and it would be very welcome. Wikipedia is only as good as its contributors. But stop with the advertising. It's not permitted. There is no one person's contribution to Wikipedia that is so vitally important that they have to be "paid" with the privilege of breaking Wikipedia policies and using articles for advertising. And if there was, it wouldn't be either of us.

Summary of what you need to do:

no more links to your website
proper releases for photos
remove URLs from your photos

I'm going to be going through and clearing out the spam. It would save a great deal of time for both of us if you didn't put it back in. Let's spend our time improving the articles instead.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Redcherryshrimp2.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Redcherryshrimp2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
