[edit]- Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Because your account was used for promotion of a company, group, product or organization with a username that promotes or implies affiliation with the aforementioned. This includes, but is not limited to: adding spam links, creating promotional pages (this includes user pages), adding advertisements to existing articles, and adding promotional/favorable content about something you are affiliated with.
Use of Wikipedia for promotion of people, products, companies or other groups (even non-commercial or charitable ones) is considered Spam and is forbidden. Such actions will result in the blocking of the account involved. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for our policies about this.
In addition, user accounts are for individuals only, not for companies or groups or other collective editing. Your username should reflect this. Usernames that appear to be promotional (such as those that make reference to a company or product) violate our username policy and are typically blocked to enforce that policy.
- What can I do now?
If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below this message box. - Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Tell us what new username you want to use. Please make sure that your new username does not violate our username policy and check that it has not already been taken (click here to search).
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below this message box and replace the text "Your reason here" with the reason why. See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. – B.hotep •talk• 16:14, 5 August 2009 (UTC)In case you are wondering why you have been blocked now and not 8 months ago – I can only assume the spam patrol was having a week off around then. What you have added to the Planet In Focus article today is the epitome of spam. It wasn't in the least bit neutral and considering your huge conflict of interest, I doubt whether you could ever edit this article without using highly promotional language. Most of it is straight from your website! – B.hotep •talk• 16:17, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm new to Wikipedia, but I just read through the reasoning for the block, and I can see that I violated the Wiki Policies.
My intent was not to make the website promotional, but simply to provide information about the festival that isn't otherwise easily accessible (the history was from the website, the films/names of directors is from last years program book...I tried to follow a similar page format to the Toronto International Film Festival but I guess I failed)
I am not a spammer, although I can see why I may have been mistaken for one since I was editing under a "Planet in Focus" user name. If you would please unblock my IP address, I will create a new, personal login and contribute by editing pages that I come across, which need updating.

[edit]I'm doing an internship at Planet in Focus, and noticed that no one's really written about us on Wiki, so I took it upon myself to do so. I am not trying to make the page promotional in any way, I'm just trying to create a good reference resource for anyone interested in the festival. A page like this would have been really useful to me a semester ago, when I was doing my final Creative Advertising Campaign in high school about Planet in Focus. (They liked me so much they gave me an internship :] )
I am not a spammer, although I can see why I may have been mistaken for one since I was editing under a "Planet in Focus" user name. If you would please unblock my IP address, I will create my own personal login ("leaeroina") and edit many pages that I know need updating (which probably would have helped me when I needed them).
- Unfortunately, because you have chosen a username that is the company's name, editing an article on the company, you come under the definition of spammer. Because of this, you will not be unblocked unless (a) you change your username (you've already said you would), and (b) you undertake not to edit the article again (because of your conflict of interest) – you have intimated your intentions towards (b), but what articles do you intend to edit otherwise? What changes are you hoping to make? – B.hotep c
- For the record, I didn't choose the user name. Didn't realize I was showing a bias before, but I'd like to continue updating the lists of movies to be shown in 2009, and that have been shown in the past as a resource for film makers if that's okay? As for other articles, I've noticed a few film articles that are in need of a cast section, so I'll be working on those as well. •talk• 10:55, 7 August 2009 (EST)
See condition (b) – you can make suggested changes to the article on its talk page, but they will only be added when reviewed by an editor without conflict of interest. If you can abide by that, you need to think of a new username and put
- {{username-un|NEWUSERNAME}}
on this page, (NEWUSERNAME = the one you want). You may then be unblocked, but the very next edit you will make is at the change username department. – B.hotep •talk• 15:24, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
