Hi Pjbjas,
Would you mind returning to the Aureolus page and adding sources to support your expansion of the page? Hiberniantears 16:05, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
I am reviewing the declined AfC submissions, and was about to move the page on this individual into mainspace when I noticed you had a considerably revised version in your sandbox. As an admin of rather long experience here, I think there only only a few additional adjustments to make. Although you are obviously an expert on the subject, Wikipedia is written on the basis of WP:no original research -- we make no conclusions of our own, nor do we make comments or footnotes indicating our evaluation of the state of the literature. I myself came here with a very long background in academic writing, and of course I found this very strange. But I soon realized that the only basis for general public participation in the project is for everyone to write in this non-authoritative fashion--if we need to make judgements, we should publish them in the peer-reviewed literature in the usual way. When we are writing here, if we are experts, we will show this by our ability to write in the appropriate way with the appropriate referencing.
There are thus some revisions to make in this article; The tone needs to be more straightforward and simple, avoiding everything that looks like you are expressing directly your expertise. The referencing needs to be considerably closer, because the reader must seewhere you have gotten each of your statements.
Your earlier work needs some adjustment in this respect also.
Incidentally, I do not think you are the only person working in this general field: it is not usually considered advisable to employ more than one username. DGG ( talk ) 00:16, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Your edits to Lucius Petronius Taurus Volusianus
[edit]Hey! Thank you for your edits to the Lucius Petronius Taurus Volusianus article. It looks like you were trying to add named references to the article (which is desirable, since the use of abbreviations like ibid is undesirabe). Unfortunately, you did not do it correctly, and it messed up the article a bit. I fixed it, but you may wish to consult WP:NAMEDREFS for the next time. Note specifically that the proper syntax is <ref name="Jones" />
, with a =
after name
and a slash after that. You also can use quote marks ("
), but shouldn't use double apostrophes (''
). — daranz [ t ] 02:51, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Following this I prepared a third submission for which approval has been sought. All the information given in the new draft is supported by citations and, where these differ in their interpretation of the evidence, the text is neutral as to which is to be preferred - other than indicating which commentary is the more recent . I have consciously striven to exclude my own research on the subject.Pjbjas (talk) 16:39, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Χαῖρε! Salve! From your edits, it looks like you're interested in Ancient Greece and/or Ancient Rome. Would you like to join the WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome? |
I've left a comment about your rejected article. Please don't abandon it; as far as I can see (and this is the area I most often work in), it just needs copyediting. Most biographies of Romans I've written belong to the Republican era so I can use MRR, but Gaius Iunius Bubulcus Brutus, Bulla Felix, Marcus Marius (quaestor), and Marcus Baebius Tamphilus come to mind as variously sharing some of the obstacles you face with your currently rejected article. I don't offer them as models, but only to indicate how I might go about framing a bio for the encyclopedia in matters of voice and structure. You might also peruse Category:B-Class Classical Greece and Rome articles to find other biographies, keeping in mind that sometimes editors rate their own articles and have an inflated sense of their quality.
If you'd like additional input, or have questions during the article creation process, you might leave a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome. When creating new articles (or moving an AfC into mainspace), be sure to place {{Classical Greece and Rome}} on the talk page. This will alert other members of the project if your article is placed into consideration for a move, deletion, etc. Cynwolfe (talk) 14:47, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
