Video games played by Lanza

[edit]

Please see Talk:Sandy_Hook_Elementary_School_shooting#Number_of_video_games_played_by_Lanza. I checked this and it still looks like twelve games. ♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:16, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Meters. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that didn't seem very civil, so it may have been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Meters (talk) 07:34, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

it will not happen again! PizzaStallion (talk) 08:06, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your user page cmt

[edit]

You claimed that you got randomly banned for editing without an account [1]. No, editors are not blocked (or banned) for using IP addresses. They are blocked for making inappropriate edits. So, what IP were you blocked on? Unless that IP is no longer blocked you are not allowed to edit. Meters (talk) 20:48, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to reveal my IP publicly, is there a way I can message you? I'm sure that I could understand what happened, privately. PizzaStallion (talk) 21:00, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don't need your current IP. You have had an account for months so it is unlikely your IP from then is still blocked. You can just check it yourself, but even if it was still blocked when you created your account you should not have done so. Meters (talk) 21:04, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Said IP was my school IP. I made this account at home so I can log in and edit things when the IP I'm on is blocked. PizzaStallion (talk) 21:05, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Blocks actually apply to the user who was editing at the time. If you were using the IP and it was blocked as a result of your edits, then you should not have created a new account until that block ended. See WP:SOCK. If it was just a case of not being able to login at school because someone else had gotten the IP blocked, it's not a concern. Either way, it's unlikely (but not unheard of) that an IP school block would last this long. Meters (talk) 21:22, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't know if the block is ongoing, because I have an account now. I don't even understand the circumstances of the block, I never saw any reasoning for it (hence my use of "randomly" in my now-blanked user page). I assume that the block was due to my edits because I noticed it shortly after a series of 2 edits I made were quickly reverted despite my changes doing doing nothing wrong that I know of and never being contested when I implemented similar ones on this account. If it was those 2 edits that got the IP blocked, then it was indeed a random block. PizzaStallion (talk) 21:29, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, never mind. I checked said 2 edits again and they are tagged as mobile edits and were made in the evening, so they were definitely made at home and I'm not sure if I was blocked for making them. I don't remember any other edits that I made (or recall making, at least) in school without an account, so I think the school's IP was already blocked before I ever made any edits on there. I do remember attempting to make an edit (which I later ended up making, as the 3rd one tied to this account) on the school's IP and being inexplicably blocked from doing so, so I think that this account was just made to be able to edit in my school for the first time. However, in that case, I'm not sure what I was referring to in the section of my previous user page which started this dispute, so I could be forgetting an edit I made on the school's IP before finding myself blocked on there. I don't know. PizzaStallion (talk) 21:43, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All good, then. I wasn't going to push this in any case. Meters (talk) 21:50, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, great. I did think that you were going to, because you said "Unless that IP is no longer blocked you are not allowed to edit." PizzaStallion (talk) 22:10, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please leave edit summaries and appropriately mark edits as minor

[edit]

Hi PizzaStallion. I noticed you used to leave descriptive edit summaries, but slowly got out of that habit. I hope I can encourage you to get back into the habit. Edit summaries let other editors know what you've changed when they're reading their watched changes, and article histories. Without edit summaries, every change needs to have its differences manually checked in order to evaluated its effect, which is a massive pain in the ass. You may not know you can change one of your account preferences to "Prompt [you] when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary)", so it's not easy to forget.

I also noticed that you made a minor edit without marking it as a minor edit. Please try to use this feature accurately in future. Thanks. Have a good day. Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 21:46, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
