Hi, my name is Pippu d'Angelo. My parents are Sicilian, from the province of Catania, around Fiumefreddo and Mascali, between Mount Etna and the Mediterannean.

I co-found the Sicilian version of Wikipedia in October 2004. If you are interested in dicussing the Sicilian language, please come to the linguasiciliana forum. This is what you will find on my user page in scn:wiki, in Sicilian of course.

When I came to this site I had a quick look at some of the AFL players on offer and when I saw legends like Norm Smith weren't on here I figured something needed to be done. Sicilian School

Pippu, thank you for your feedback on the discussion page of the Sicilian School, I changed the text to include the names of some scholars, but i fear i may give the impression to have left out intentionally other professors from other countries (I don't know much about them) who deserve to be quoted. If you have some names in mind, feel free to include them. I'm giving a look at bibliographies. No holidays in Sicily this year! Reversion in Romance languages

Every Italian dialect, French dialect or other Romance language dialect is recognized by Ethnologue and has its own page: check Piedmontese language, Lombard language, Emiliano-Romagnolo, Ligurian language (Romance), Neapolitan language, Venetian language, Corsican language, Picard language, Norman language and many many many others. So you put all of these languages/dialects in the article, and clutter it irremediably, or you remove the Sicilian languages, that doesn't deserve more than any other one. Footscray

G'day, I wish I could add some more photos of F'cray! Problem is that I have moved up to Cairns. I worked in Footscray last year and the thing that I found the most beautiful about Footscray was the entrance into it, the cargo and cranes which I found quite beautiful and striking and as a result, I now have a stackload of photos of cargo (I loved watching the colours change on the crates). Next time in Melbourne, I'll try to make an effort to get down there and maybe take a photo of Nicholson St. Please don't discredit ordinary scenery, it often is the best :) Frances76 11:59, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

My Username

Hi. In June last year my username User:Jebus Christ was blocked. I discovered recently that the admin responsible User:Secretlondon was involved in protecting the article relating to the profet mahommed images under the banner of freedom of speach. I personally find this hypocritical.

Amateur AFL teams

Hello Pippu d'angelo. Recently, North Carolina Tigers was put on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/North Carolina Tigers by myself, with the result being to merge the team to its respective league - United States Australian Football League, on the grounds that the performance and competition level is not of first-class standard, although the leagues in themselves are of interest. At the time I wrote a rather large discussion, indicating that the AfD could be a litmus-test or precedent for similar AFL teams and I would like to see what people think about this, as to I (or someone else) should go ahead and merge them, without sending a whole pile to AfD. As a person of Calabrian descent, it pains me to discuss something that aims to further Sicily's heritage pippu ;) :D Seriously, I've taken a look at what you've set up so far and it looks impressive, the only advice I could add would be to add some sort of progress % on each area (such as key Sicilian landmarks), which gives the Project some sort of scope and goal, as well as a sense of achivement. About WikiProject Sicily

Hi Pippu, sorry if I wasn't able to answer you right on time, but I'm full of plenty of work to do this time. About the questions you posted in my talkpage:

• 1) I think it'd be a rather good idea to leave a message both on the Italian and the Sicilian wiki community. Even if we speak English here ...
• 2) For the comuni template, it is just the template used by all the italian towns and cities. I think we should not implement any template for Sicilian comuni, as they are administratively part of Italy, and the current one would fit much better in my opinion. For now let's think first about articles ;)

Progress in Sicily Categorization

I've finally finished migrating all of the articles in "Category: Towns in Sicily" and "Category:Cities in Sicily" to the appropriate "Municipalities of the Province of..." Category. These old categories are now officially empty, which I think is a good step forward in the project. Also, you might want to check out {{Province of Messina}}, which has recently been created- AKeen 18:12, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Commune

Hello, I've responded to your comments about translation of the Italian comuni over at Category talk:Cities and towns in Italy#Suggested recategorization. In short, I argued that "commune" is the standard English translation for this term. Even if "commune" is not used in English to refer to municipalities in English-speaking countries, it is used to refer to French, Italian, etc. local government entities, and I provided dictionary entries to back me up on this. I don't think we should overtranslate. john k 11:35, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I certainly know about the hippy meaning of "commune," but words can have more than one meaning. All of the English dictionaries either of us has so far mentioned include a definition of "commune" which includes French and Italian communes/comuni. The wikipedia article italicizing "commune" seems to be based on the same misconception as calling Italian comuni municipalities - that "commune" in English is not an appropriate translation of the French commune. But it seems clear from our readings of dictionaries that "commune" is an appropriate translation of French commune (and Italien comune). That this isn't the primary meaning of the word is irrelevant. Perhaps the word "count" would form a good example. The word "Count" has an English noun meaning related to the verb "count" - a "vote count," for instance. And I'd think that this would be the primary English noun meaning of "count." That doesn't mean that we should translate French comte, German graf, etc, as "Earl". "Commune" is the appropriate English term for these local government units. Though I've got a degree in History (medieval specialism), I don't have enough history books around the house, and I'm too far from a good library, to really be much use resolving the issues - but I'm an English-usage maniac, and so I can maybe help with copy editing. Non-football question

Pippu, it just occurred to me that you might know the answer to this. Do Italians refer to the "toe/heel of Italy"? Is it an English language thing? I can't find many references to "Punta dell'Italia" or "Tallone dell'Italia" on the web. Are such terms regarded as offensive? I was wondering as I do a bit of work on World War 2 articles, where it crops up quite a bit, and I've never been sure if it's really encyclopedic to use such terms. Chilean-Australian. Resolution sought

I think it is in all our interests that we resolve the debate on the cited number of Chilean-Australians.

TeePee and myself have presented our arguments and rebuttals for some days now.

I thank you for your attention to the issues, and especially for bearing with us in this challenging debate. While I can not speak for TeePee, I would assume he is equally grateful.

But now is the time to get this debate finally finished.

I have drafted a comprimise version here (15:58, 17 May 2008 ) which provides references to the Jupp 2001 estimate and the ABS 2006 ancestry estimate, with caveats attached which explain their respective difficiencies.

Now I respectfully ask if you could pass judgement on my text for this version, with a support or oppose provided on Talk:Chilean Australian. If you have not responded by 20 May I will presume you have elected not to take part.

I myself, and I would hope and expect TeePee, will abide by your ruling.
