Signing
[edit]Hi there, can you sign any comments you add to talk pages using 4 tildes — ~~~~. I've added some welcome links above which give some more articles that might be of interest. Thanks/wangi 16:54, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
- Please, it's as simple as typing ~~~~ at the bottom of your message - Wikipedia automatically expands that into your username and the current date. Thanks/wangi 09:29, 6 January 2006 (UTC
No sources
[edit]Hi, thanks for the comment... The thing about that bit you added was it actually refers to the original/real meaning of taint as defined at wikt:Taint#Etymology 2, so it's not really relevant for this article. And no, I couldn't find and sources either!
And yeah, I put forward the article for AfD and have worked on it since there was no conclusive result - make the best of a bad situation ;)

the prior UNSIGNED comment was made by pamento. This is blatant vandalism and should be kept in case Administrator UncleG and I need to make a case for his removalPickelbarrel 13:37, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
I have been in contact with a fellow user named Dan. He has told me he has a close personal friend who is going to look it to this if you don't stop harrasing me RIGHT NOW! --Pamento 22:59, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, nice to meet you. I'm mostly into classical music, but I'll take a peek at Smashed Gladys on your account. I would suggest waiting until you've been here at least three months or so, usually people are hesitant to grant adminship to someone who hasn't been here that long. When I said that I loved awards and food, I meant WikiFood...like the cookies you see on my page. ;) I don't really have a problem with my weight. ;) Ciao! --ViolinGirl♪ 00:22, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- I would definately second what Splash said below. I'm not saying you're a bad user, I've just not seen much of your work around. Who are you working with? UncleG is not a registered user as of yet. I did look at your article you mentioned. If I remember correctly, it looked good, but as I said, I have no interest in rock/pop/jazz/etc., so didn't pay much attention. Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Julia Fischer, Midori Goto, and Sarah Chang are all young classical musicians, if you want a partial list of some. Ciao!--ViolinGirl♪ 00:16, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
"rank"
[edit]Hi Pickelbarrel. Well, I'm a Wikipedia:Administrator, which means that, apart from the usual work of editing and writing articles I can do a few additional things associated with trying to keep the place running smoothly and cleaning up when it runs less smoothly. So I can (un)delete articles, (un)block account, (un)protect pages and edit protected pages within strict limits. That's all, though. Some people find these things useful, others are fine with never having those additional abilities and the responsibilities that come with them.
The actual process to becoming an admin is to make a Request for Adminship, in which the community will scrutinise your general conduct and work. Generally, the community does not grant adminship to users with less than 3 months of good contribution across a reasonably broad spectrum of activity. After all, if you're going to have the ability to help look after the place, you need to be well-familiar with how it normally looks and works. So you need to show that your responsible and trustworthy, civil when in conflict and that you have a good grasp of the various policies, guidelines and common practises. There's a lot of advice in WP:GRFA which you can look through. You can also read through the current nominations on WP:RFA and see the reasons people give for supporting and opposing requests.
You may find that your time on Wikipedia is entirely fulfilling without the additional admin tools — after all, you don't need any of them to actually write the encyclopedia. -Splashtalk 01:23, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- Old successful nominations are held in Wikipedia:Recently created admins and old unsuccessful nominations in Wikipedia:Unsuccessful adminship candidacies. If you want to get a quick vandalism block, you can add the IP/username to WP:AIV. -Splashtalk 16:22, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Shuting Down Dan
[edit]The way I dealt with Dan was to publicly announce that I saw through his thin veil and knew he was accusing me of Sock puppetry. He made a big noise but mostly did a lot of back peddling. He soon totted of to do what ever it is he does. So my advice is to take him head on. He is pretty shifty and will probably get scared off, but don’t be surprised if he threatens to tell an Administrator on you. Like I said he is pretty shifty and can’t deal with much himself.--Cenestrad 04:06, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Wow! Pretty nifty Cenestrad! I'm afraid to say that I have not been "scared off" in this case. Anyway, as I was saying. Pickelbarrel, your actions have now been reported to an Admin. User: Sam Korn - Oh look, his link actually works! Dan 21:09, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
This dispute has now been put forward to the Admins' Noticeboard. Dan 22:14, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
See just like I said
[edit]Dan has a pattern and you have just seen it. He made a big noise when threatend said he'd tell an Admin. and now he has ran off. Kind of like a blow fish, real big with nothing inside. Notice how he acted as if you had insulted him? He did the same in my encounter with him. Anyway he's gone now and you shouldn't have to worry about him anymore. Oh did you notice that both times he ran to Sam Korn? I wonder how often that poor guy has to wipe that kids ass.--Cenestrad 23:50, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
In response to your question, No I am not an Administrator. I am something much more rare and wonderful. I am the Emperor of Wikipedia. There are hundreds of Administrators but I am the one and only Emperor. I was granted this title by divine right and wield its powers to protect the common good. When I first came to Wikipedia I was amazed at the universe of information. I explored the mazes of text in awe and soon came to think of Wikipedia much like a human body. It had a brain and vision in the form of the countless Editors; it had muscle in the form of administrators. Its blood was the information and its sweat was the effort of creation. It had voice in the talk pages. It had a digestive tract in the form of the AFD debate. Its heart was the love most people brought to the wikipedia world. It was missing only two things, a Taint and a soul, and I gave it both.
Wikipedia needed a Taint so that the sweaty, ragged people of the Wiki-world would have a place to call home. It needed a soul so it would never become a cold and uncaring machine. I saw this need and (looking to the Emperor of the United States, the great Emperor Norton) took the responsibility upon myself by accepting the title of Emperor of Wikipedia. --Cenestrad 00:13, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
You also asked me what to do about vandals and what titles you might be able to have. You can rid yourself and wikipedia of vandals by refusing to see that they exist. Jackson Pollok said that he didn't correct mistakes in his art because he didn't see them. Try that appraoch. Or sometimes confront them that can be fun as well. As far as title you can have any title the world grants and it can posses what ever power you see fit thats how I do things. --Cenestrad 01:49, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
I've undeleted it, because after a Google search it does appear to be a valid term. enochlau (talk) 23:09, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Stop this all of you
[edit]As the Emperor Of Wikipedia I order all parties involved in this dispute to stop all aggressive behavior for the common good. An assumed apology is issued on all fronts. This means no one will have to actually apologize but any offended parties may assume that an apology has been issued. Further more I order the three main parties involved in this dispute (Pickelbarrel, Pamento and Dan) to work on an article together so that they can overcome any lingering feelings of hostility they may harbor and learn what wikipedia is for. I suggest you select a difficult subject such as wallpaper paste so you can spend time working as a team. I would prefer that you select the subject yourselves but if you are unable to tell me and I will appoint you one. This I order for the common good.Cenestrad--The Emperor of Wikipedia 02:12, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, go ahead Pickelbarrel... convince yourself that you have won. However I Refuse to apologise in any way. I have done nothing except attempt to stop you behaving in a manner highly unsuitable for this encyclopaedia, following Wikipedia guidleines all the way... so clearly you and maybe Pamento, oh and Cenestrad for aiding and abetting you, are the only ones who need apologise to anyone. Plus, Panty waste will not last long before deletion I fear. Oh and Cenestrad... you may wield the divine right of Emperor. However, if I so desired I could make myself a WikiGod... or some such insane sacrelige so meanwhile the only titles that I really answer to are those of real Admins (not "admins in training" which is a nonsense anyway) and maybe perhaps our great leader Jimbo. Dan 19:23, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- Right, from now on I shall no longer reply to anything you have to say to me, and all comments you make/have made on my talk page will be deleted. Plus, do you think that I don't realise who attempted to blank my user page the other day? I'm not stupid you know. This is not a backing down, I still believe that you are an insulting user who should apologise to everyone you have hurt/angered/pissed off, but I am no longer willing to put up with you. Goodbye. Dan 19:40, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
It looks like Dan does not want to work with you
[edit]If Dan is not interested in working with you I suggest that you look on his User Contributions page to find an article he is already working on and begin helping him with it. That way you can still work as a team --Cenestrad The Emperor of Wikipedia 04:02, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
I think you should go to your prefrences and under nickname rename yourself "pickelbarrel the asshole" and then go to pamentos page and talk about what an asshole you are. That should piss him off good. Also let Uncle G & Wangi know that way they can speak with Pamento or maybe block him. As for working with Dan go to his user page and click on User Contributions on the left hand side of the screen in your toolbox (it's right under related changes) that will give you a list off what he is working on. Then all you have to do is pick an article and start editing. --Cenestrad The Emperor of Wikipedia 16:35, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Your message to Sam Korn
[edit]I just saw your message to Sam Korn. Please review WP:CIV. Thanks. AnnH (talk) 00:27, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- THERE ARE ALWAYS TIMES WHERE THE URGENCY OF THE MATTER MAY OUTWEIGH THE NEED TO BE POLITE. FIREFIGHTERS AND POLICEMEN ROUTINELY "FORGET" TO USE PLEASE AND THANK-YOU'S. LIKEWISE I DIDNT SEE A NEED TO TRY AND BE RESPECTFUL AFTER SEEING WHERE AN ADMINISTRATOR WAS JOKING WITH A MINOR ABOUT GETTING HIM DRUNK. LETS ALL BE CIVIL, BUT LETS NOT BE STUPID.Pickelbarrel 18:54, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Nothing is ever actually urgent here. This is a textbased medium and none of the words are going anywhere in a hurry. Please do try to be kind. James James 01:59, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. Since Sam is sixteen, it seems fairly harmless for to ask a fellow teenager, as a joke, if he got drunk. I think you realize that now. In any case, an administrator does not have any position of authority here. All we can do is block users, delete pages, and protect pages. (By the way, your use of capitals makes the text harder to read!) Cheers. AnnH (talk) 11:22, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Pickelbarrel, I notice you've taking to shouting at people because they don't share your views on child endangerment, or because they posted to someone you regard as in need of protection. In the meantime, you've made only 17 edits to articles, but 154 to user or article talk, with the pinnacle of your achievement being the unlamented Panty waste. I assume this is some kind of role account, but regardless of the story, you're likely to be blocked if it continues. Please contribute constructively to our encyclopedia and talk kindly to your fellow editors. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 08:31, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Pamento
[edit]Hi Pickelbarrel- I temporarily blocked User:Pamento from editing Wikipedia due to his personal attacks. If he continues, please let me or another admin know about it. I also have a recommendation for you. I think you should stop arguing with Pamento, and let administrators deal with him. Arguing with him only serves to provoke him more. Thank you. removing messages
[edit]In regard to your question on my talk page: I would strongly suggest not removing messages others leave on your talk page as they do serve a purpose and are important. If a user erroneously leaves a warning message, I would still leave it and attempt to explain why you received it. By removing such things, it makes it look like you are trying to hide something. Even the fact that you were once blocked should still remain evident on you talk page, but instead you have removed it [1]. While this isn't necessarily grounds for further warnings or such, it does make you look as if you are attempting to conceal the facts. Also on a related matter, I would suggest you not refer to yourself as an "asshole" in your signature. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 02:11, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
you have a responsiblity to act
[edit]If you feel a child is in danger than it is imparitive that you contact the authorities. If you are in the U.S. I would suggest you contact the FBI and give them the info you have gathered. Block
[edit]Pickelbarrel, you're blocked for a month, for persistently being a jerk.
Should you choose to come back afterwards, I hope you will behave yourself. Otherwise, future blocks will be longer. DS 04:43, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Your e-mail
[edit]Hi Pickelbarrel, I received your e-mail. I can't say that I disagree with your current block. You don't appear to have made any useful edits on Wikipedia. It looks like you've spent your time arguing with other users, creating nonsense articles about the "Emperor of Wikipedia" (there is no such person), and accusing respected members of the community of being pedophiles. Plus your sig ("pickelbarrel the asshole") makes you look very immature. DS blocked you for creating the article "panty waste" multiple times. My advice is for you to apologize to the people you've insulted, and promise to stop creating nonsensical articles. Perhaps someone will unblock you then. Rhobite 06:39, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- I did NOT create an article entitled "emperor of wikipedia" or anything like that, however this person does exist and if you doubt that you should look up a few articles where he has written me, seen here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Pickelbarrel#you_have_a_responsiblity_to_act I have already removed "the asshole" from my name, and thanked the person user:Malo for reminding me that I had put it there. As far as accusing respected mebers of the wiki-community of being pedophiles, thatt is not true either...I accused one person of possibly being a pedophile...an act I dont appologize for at all. When It comes to the safety of children I am always willing to err on the side of caution. Let me say that I have some strong suspicions that me having asked questions about his behaviour may have led to me being banned. That is the kind of punish the accuser mentality that gave the catholic church in so much trouble. I should be praised for being alert against internet predetors, but am instead punished for "being a jerk" . pickelbarrel 07:28, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Work to be done
[edit]Hi PB, one thing Wikipedia is never short of is things needing done - and things that help us write an encyclopedia. If you take a look at Wikipedia:List of WikiProjects you'll find a list of projects, most of these have a list of articles needing to be written or other tasks to be done — I'm sure you can find something of interest! There's also a general list of articles requested at Wikipedia:Requested articles. Thanks/wangi 22:47, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I have good news for you. User: Splash the great & wise has laid out conditions for you to become unblocked. You can find them on my talk page. He has also restored the Panty Waste article so that it can be fixed. Splash has really changed my opinion on Wikipedia administrators. I had planned making Feb 3 an international wiki-holiday (entitled victims day) to remember all the editors who were victims of douche bag administrators. Instead I think I will proclaim it Splash day (or somthing similar) to help us all remember this great & wise administrator who uses his power for the common good of wikipedia (unlike other administrators who seem to use their powers to prove what douche bags the are)This I order for the common good.--Cenestrad The Emperor of Wikipedia 13:31, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Not A Problem
[edit]Just make sure you drop it with anybody you might be mad at(we all make mistakes), be kind to others, and be encyclopedic as possible in article space. You'll be alright, and as long as you do those things, i'll be there to help however I can. Karmafist 19:07, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Further to this, I've manually lifted all the various blocks on you that were lying around. There's a software feature that extends a block if a user tries to edit from an IP used by a blocked account, and this was the problem. Anyway, you should be able to edit freely again. As I've said to to Cenestrad, you need to make sure your general demeanour is that of a committed editor who is friendly, civil and constructive. Enjoy editing, -Splashtalk 19:10, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Response To Your DS Apology, And Ideas
[edit]I just saw that, if being an administrator is your goal, you'll have to take a far less condescending tone than that, it probably would have better to say nothing, considering your addition to Ebaums World was about half a sentence. Also, another thing you might want to do is put your edits through some sort of spell checker before you make them. Karmafist 01:44, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- Just copy and pasting your words into Microsoft Word should work. Karmafist 17:47, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Look at the comment above there, he apologized to Splash, Splash asked me if I minded if he removed the block early, and I was more than happy to oblige. What he's been talking about is fairly common, heck it just happened to me, but calling people names all over the place isn't a constructive way to fix it. Karmafist 18:09, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Lifting Up
[edit]Heh, I wish others saw it in the same way. I won't be an administrator anymore, at least for a little while. You can see why a little further up on my talk page. The culture around here is heading towards anarchy/oligarchy in my opinion, but i'm glad I could help at least one person such as yourself out before a group of angry illogical people decide to get rid of me forever, which seems like it'll happen sooner or later. Oh well. I did the best I could. Talk to you later, my friend. Karmafist 18:45, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your concern though, my friend. I'm just worried about you, since i've seen Jimbo fly off the handle firsthand and I don't want you to be a recipient of it as well. Hi
[edit]Hi, Pickelbarrel. I'm sure that I do not deserve such a title; titles are really not at all Wikipedic and there are editors and admins much better than me! I think you can give yourself what title you like — and with a bit of creativity and flair you could earn the one you'd like! If admin is the 'title' you are after, then really it's not a title, it's just a set of permissions to do things that are focussed almost exclusively on cleaning up mess that gets left lying around. I'm no mathematician, and infinity is a peculiar creature, but we do have the article Infinity#Arithmetic properties of infinity. That suggests that there is no answer to your question, and that it falls into the class of questions that mathematicians simply call "undefined". How are you efforts on writing the encyclopedia going? Found some interesting things to write about or copyedit? -Splashtalk 02:47, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Voting or not

Regarding barnstars
[edit]I've removed the barnstars on your page that were taken off of other users' pages. These are generally given for doing good work on Wikipedia, and copying them is a bit misleading. If you like the style of them, and wish to keep them on your page, you can find many of them here, but I suggest that you don't attribute them to other users who didn't actually give them to you. Thanks! Ral315 (talk) 21:08, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- Generally, they're given by others, though some users add them for style. The problem was that the text that accompanied those pictures made it look like other users gave them to you. You can use any pictures on that page, and in general, you can add any picture that isn't fair use (see the image's description page). The reason for this is that fair use images are protected by copyright, and can only be used on articles about that subject. Let me know if you have any other questions. Ral315 (talk) 22:20, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- One of the barnstars referred to an edit made by another user, so I fixed that. As far as giving me a barnstar- you can if you so desire. It's fine to give others barnstars- just make sure that the text refers to why you gave them the barnstar. Ral315 (talk) 00:13, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]I like your new article, and I can see you've made some edits to other articles too. I always find that actually doing content work is far the most fulfilling thing about Wikipedia. Karmafist is unlikely to be reinstated by petition, although he can reapply through WP:RFA as usual with a couple of weeks waiting. Karmafist is a good guy, but has evidently upset the wrong people. I'm glad I've been help to you, let me know if I can in future. PS: You dropped a couple of barnstars on my talk page which sound like you intended them to go either on someone else's talk page or your own: we've never made any simultaneous rollbacks! -Splashtalk 22:51, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

I Noticed you have taken a shining to awards
[edit]so I will give you this.--The Emperor of Wikipedia & Protector of Wiktionary 13:52, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Barnstars/awards
[edit]It depends what you want to do with them. Personally, I'd delete the anus picture as well as the piercing, because they're definitely a bit provocative, and I don't see the need to keep them. The other problem is that it can get editors in trouble; anyone editing at a public computer or at a school can face problems if they find an anus on your page. There's nothing wrong with removing them, either; generally, as long as you're not vandalizing, you can do whatever you want in on your user and user talk pages, including deleting pictures and awards.
For the ones you want, you can either leave them here, or create a new page (I'd suggest something like User:Pickelbarrel/Awards as its name), place the awards there, and link to them from here. That's your choice.
You had also wondered how to give barnstars to others...the easiest way is to follow the following format:
{{subst:Barnstar|image=Original_Barnstar.png|text=Here's a barnstar.}}
This will create a barnstar on their page. You can change the text to whatever you want to say to them (just a short sentence or two will do). If you want to use a different barnstar from this page, you can click the barnstar you want to use, and look at the name at the top of the page. Where it says "Barnstar.png", replace that with the name of the image you want to use. Ral315 (talk) 14:38, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
WP:TOE
[edit]See the This page is an absurd Wikipedia policy, guideline, or process. The proposal may still be in development, under discussion, or in the process of gathering consensus for adoption. References or links to this page should not describe it as "policy". And don't call me "Honey". section of WP:TOE. I don't really see a huge problem with someone wishing another user a happy day, it's not really affection, just a "hey buddy have a great one". Well someone's blacklisted you for removing such content, it really isn't appropiate, many high profile wikipedians have given messages out. Tawker 01:30, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Deletion
[edit]It had been my understanding that comments which didn't violate policy were to be left, archived, or the whole page blanked (but preferably not the latter). Whatever, no biggie. I can't remember where I saw that and I'm not really interested in arguing about it. No sweat, sorry to bother you. —WAvegetarianTALKCONTRIBSEMAIL 01:49, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
The page I'm talking about
[edit]Was the page you were quoting as the reason when you were removing valentine's day reminders from. That was the disclaimer on the page, it is not official policy in any way shape or form. Many admins were giving out messages to their fellow editors, nobody has any problems with it.
As for your choice of words, the term "fuck" is not acceptable on userpages. I expect that you won't use it again. Tawker 01:55, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
I was referring to
[edit]There is no official policy, I just consider it to be offensive and way out of context. Tawker 02:14, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I know I may have seemed like I exploded, I just dealt with 50 vandals and was a little cranky and I might have exploded. As for the "honey" issue, I was just quoting the policy page you were using on reverting, a few people were mad about the reverts and I was trying to point out that it's not official policy. Guns N' Roses
[edit]Ju Ju Hounds have nothing to do with Guns N' Roses - people can read Izzy's article if they want to find out what he did after he left the band

If I can trouble you for a little feedback
[edit]I have to say that I feel I have the honor of making yours, the very first ever user page I've ever even contemplated printing on this institution, and have done exactly that! Kudos from North Andover! It's not quite a party, but...
You are cordially invited to pick on Frank:

re: Request some 'peer review' (Talkpage sections detailing concerns)] on new article: Arsenal of Democracy
This post is being made Friday 14 April 2006 to a double handful (spam?) of admins & editors for some reactions, and advice (Peer Review) on this article, and it's remaining development, as I'd like to put it to bed ASAP. (Drop in's welcome too!) Your advice would be valuable and appreciated. Replies on talk link (above) indicated. Thanks! FrankB 19:30, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Please try to keep contributions factual.
[edit]Oh Pickelbarrel, WikiPedia.Org is a serious project. Please keep articles factual. A parody of WikiPedia.Org exists for those wanting to make and contribute to humorous phony articles. It is called Uncyclopedia.org:

You can put all of the nonsense you like into articles there. The more nonsense, the better. Keep us all laughing on the floor, if you can.

[edit]Dear — Ŭalabio‽ listen to yourself. Somebody at one of your pornsites claims go around and vandalize, and then you write me an obscene note? What is this gonna accomplish? The article Panty Waste (art show) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Waiting with a notability tag since 5 years and no development of its "undersourced" situation all that time.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Why should I have a User Name?
