Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Phu Bia Mining
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Phu Bia Mining, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Notability
[edit]Being a "real mining operation" in Laos does not make a topic suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia by default. Articles on Wikipedia should be written from a neutral point of view, and make frequent references to high-quality, independent sources. Across the four sections of the draft, the article only cites two references, and both come from the company's own website, phubiamining.com.
As it happens, Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion. The draft, at this time, is written as an advertisement. Your username indicates that you have a conflict of interest with the mining company, and the fact that this draft has already been submitted last year by User:PhuBiaMining, indicates that you may be using Wikipedia as a sockpuppet which is a misuse of Wikipedia's services. If this mining operation were to be notable for Wikipedia, an neutral editor will write an article on it. I hope you take this to heart moving forward, if you'd like to contribute to Wikipedia any time in the future. Utopes (talk / cont) 05:20, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Interesting. So how come our subsidiary, Frieda River, is accepted as its mere presence does not make it a topic suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia by default. PBM is the largest copper and gold mining company in Laos since 2006, a significant contributor to the Laos economy, employs 4,000 people and is 10% owned by the Laos government. I would think that would merit a page in an encyclopedia. Do you consider Vientiane Times as a high-quality independent source? If so, I will source a neutral editor to rewrite and submit (using Lao media sources), so there's not a conflict of interest. PhuBiaMining1 (talk) 05:59, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

- Due to your conflict of interest, and the promotional nature of your edits, and your block evasion, it is unlikely you'll be unblocked to write about the subject. You will need to describe what non promotional, non conflict of interest edits you would make to help build the wonder of the world that is this encyclopedia. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:31, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

- It is assumed that you are the same person who operated the account "PhuBiaMining", which was blocked, and that you created the account "PhuBiaMining1" to evade that block. The block is against you personally, not just your account. If you want to continue editing Wikipedia, then log in to your original account and request an unblock there. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:47, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- No, it isn't as I only moved to Laos this year. Also I mentioned the frieda river project as being part of our organisation that has a page on Wikipedia and your colleague sent me a link to frieda river, two separate topics. anyway, I guess as the leading copper and gold miner in South-East Asia we are not interesting enough to warrant a page, as my request to understand if Vientiane Times newspaper is a reliable source went unanswered. 183.182.109.162 (talk) 02:07, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Notability is not inherited; even if a subsidiary company is notable, its parent company won't be worthy of inclusion if it lacks the necessary coverage in reliable and independent sources. As for your question about the Vientiane Times, it is a state media entity and Laos has a poor press freedom rating. You could pose the question on the reliable sources noticeboard but personally I don't believe it counts as a reliable source. By the way, while you are blocked, the only thing you should use this page for is to appeal your block. And you should log in before doing so, because editing while logged out of your account can also be viewed as block evasion. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:19, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello, PhuBiaMining1. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. A page you created Draft:Phu Bia Mining has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic.
This article needs to be rewritten from scratch from reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject."Before you start writing, gather a list of indisputably reliable sources that are entirely independent of the [subject] and that devote significant coverage to the [subject]. Once you have that list of high quality sources, format them into references. Referencing for beginners explains how. Now, neutrally summarize what the sources say, avoiding any promotional language. You can find much more detailed advice at Your first article." --per Cullen328" Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Persistent posters of promotional content may be blocked from editing. Posters of promotional content with promotional usernames may be blocked on sight.
Information on content and common pitfalls to avoid can be located here and here, however be aware that this is not an exhaustive list. Pages can sometimes avoid these pitfalls and still be seen as an ad copy or unambiguously promotional, particularly if the editor appears to be a paid editor or has some other conflict of interest. Please review these policies, including the FAQ page on organizations to determine if this applies to you.
Common mistakes or beliefs about promotional editing center on the assumption that promotional editing only applies to promotion for commercial gain. Some tags or G11 nominations are met with confusion by creators, particularly if they spend much time reading or creating corporate documents, mission/vision statements, or similar copy for their organization. The frequent exposure to promotional tone may make it difficult to notice non-neutral phrases or styles, as the editor has grown accustomed to seeing it as everyday writing or speech. This can be difficult, but not impossible, to unlearn.
Another common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. It applies to any topic, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see this page on citing sources and Wikipedia:Common sourcing mistakes (notability). This page has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there. New article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems.You can ask for help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk and on IRC chat Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure is a useful tutorial.
New article creation can be difficult and frustrating. Sometimes it is better to first gain experience by fixing and helping maintain existing articles. Wikipedia:Community portal/Opentask contains links to things that badly need doing, if you are so inclined.
This notice is information dense. Please carefully read and thoroughly understand the linked information before attempting further article creation.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
- Provide a new username.
To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.
Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:25, 4 September 2024 (UTC)- Also noting also block evasion and sock puppetry PhuBiaMining. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:25, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
