Great map

Hello Philg88,

Congratulations for your wonderful work and the map that you have drawn. In comparison with the former is even not possible :-)

There are little historical mistakes. Could you tell me what is the process to make them corrected ?

Kind Regards, Pluto2012 (talk) 10:51, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind comment Pluto2012. I assume you are talking about [File:Israel and Palestine 1st June 1948-EN.svg]. You can leave a message requesting (minor) corrections to the map here on my talk page. Best, ► Philg88 ◄ talk 18:13, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Hello Philg88,
In order not to disturb you several times, I have asked other contributors (Zero0000, Ynhockey, Ykantor) to give their mind.
When we have discussed I will come back to you with some requests.
Thank you again for your work ! Pluto2012 (talk) 18:18, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:EWO1941ad.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:EWO1941ad.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 20:07, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Please comment at Xiaxue's ongoing peer review!

You have listed yourself as a peer review volunteer interested in copyediting articles. Would you like to support the quest to counter systemic bias on Wikipedia? Would you like to read an interesting article about something different? If so, you are invited to give a thorough review of the article Xiaxue, which is about a Singaporean celebrity blogger. The article is very short and should not take long to review. Hope you enjoy reviewing it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Thanks! 谢谢!Terima kasih! நன்றி! --J.L.W.S. The Special One (talk) 12:06, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Really??? You are too lazy to type in "French" and just want to blindly revert? Also, {{Expand language}} clearly states on the page, "This template should not be placed on article pages directly. Instead, choose a language-specific template from Category:Expand by language Wikipedia templates." Bgwhite (talk) 05:58, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

That's a bit harsh. No, I am not too lazy to type in "French" and I didn't blindly revert. I reverted your edit in good faith because your changed the source language to Spanish, which is incorrect. My use of the wrong template is a different issue and for that I apologise. ► Philg88 ◄ talk 08:14, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Dear Sir, I've added an external link on Bahrain page to www.thebahrain.com. and I've noticed that you've commented it is as a commercial site. Could you please explain, because of google ads there in the website? Please go thru the website and contents, (you will not be able to find even a single website related to bahrain, better than www.thebahrain.com.) Hope you will understand. Thanks VinodMAN. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.131.64.193 (talk) 16:50, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the message. I'm sure that the website you want added is excellent, the question is whether it is relevant to an encyclopedic Wikipedia article about Bahrain? First off, it's a .com site, which means it's a commercial venture. Whether the revenue comes from Google Ads or selling holidays is neither here nor there. If you look at the other external links in the article, you will see that they are all either government, educational or the BBC, which is a reliable source and therefore acceptable. Other Wiki's (Wikitravel etc.) may have a different policy, but I'm afraid that such material is unacceptable here. Sorry I can't be of more help. Do you take requests?

I have seen your graphic work, and was wondering if you take requests. Please let me know, thanks!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 11:03, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Kintetsubuffalo and thanks for the message. I most certainly do take requests, usually via the map workshop, but I'm happy to take one here! Let me know what you would like and I'll do my best to oblige. Best Regards, ► Philg88 ◄ talk 20:29, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
They're Scouting emblems in need of cleanup. The GL normally doesn't like to take them because they are thought to be akin to logos. Really it's better to have a nice version of the badge than a crude one. Might you be willing? They're not maps, but you do such nice work! Thanks for the fast reply!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 10:11, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Hmmm... I thought you were talking about a map. As you say, WP is very fussy about logos etc. and likes to keep them lo-res to avoid copyright problems. That said, please let me know the file names and I'll take a look. ► Philg88 ◄ talk 04:04, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that, you just do such nice work. Just this one, then:
  1. File:Boy Scouts of Iraqi Kurdistan.jpg create new png or svg using File:Human headed winged bull profile.jpg or File:Human headed winged bull facing.png and File:Flag of Kurdistan.svg--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 10:56, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Much as I hate to do this, I'm afraid I have to decline your request. According to the copyright statement on the Boy Scouts logo, "fair use" is claimed on the basis that "The logo is of a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company or organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution." If I were to recreate this (which would be quite a lot of work), the new image would breach this term and thus be a candidate for speedy deletion. Sorry that I can't help in this case.► Philg88 ◄ talk 06:19, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors

The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page!

The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there!

Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

Huns edit

Hi, I appreciate your messaging me about this, but do look over edits more carefully before reversing them. The last two paragraphs were essentially repeated (probably there was an edit conflict so someone repasted in their edit but didn't delete what it was replacing). I deleted the one that was less well-written and had fewer sources (clearly the earlier of the two). Re-edited it with an explanation and signature. Harsimaja (talk) 16:17, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure what happened there. Was that edit removing 2,061 bytes of content by you? It doesn't show your sig (Unicode only) or have a comment attached. Sorry, but from the diff it looked like an arbitrary deletion. I've reverted my edit anyway, no harm done. ► Philg88 ◄ talk 17:20, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
