Lady Jane
I know it is a low quality source, but it mentions "May 1966", so we need another source if we are to include the month. Edwardx (talk) 12:45, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Added one. Are you sure the RS song came out in April? If so, it can't have been inspired by the shop which opened in May? Philafrenzy (talk) 12:49, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Temple
Just for the avoidance of doubt, I don't have a problem with Temple per se. I've written up H. H. Risley, James Tod and several other biographical articles that deal with similar British colonial characters. It has long been my intention to improve the Temple article - I just happen to have picked the week when my JSTOR access is limited (something I only found out after starting). This is not a quick DYK job, and nor should it be. - Sitush (talk) 22:37, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Lady Jane
Lady Jane is in the Queue. 50 Carnaby Street nominated. Edwardx (talk) 18:24, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I have been away for the weekend. The death of Violet Boofty by gas is interesting as that was the MO of John Christie who was connected to the building later and was in London at that time. It could do with a longer lead and more on several of the clubs. Also, what was there earlier and during the gaps? I have more on Litvinoff. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:45, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, there are issues, and the hooks could be better, but the deadline was fast approaching and that was my first priority. Will try to do some more! Edwardx (talk) 00:30, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- It wasn't a complaint. Litvinoff is unexpectedly long for a man with very few verifiable facts, no personal quotes, no publications and no official records that I can find! Philafrenzy (talk) 00:37, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- Was more trying to express my own disappointment that I couldn't match the quality of the Lady Jane hook. Every time I look, Litvinoff expands... Where will it end? You can see why someone wants to write a book about him. Good night. Edwardx (talk) 01:08, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- I will definitely buy that book, if it ever comes out. It will be a biography without any contribution from the subject. The Welsh cottage is interesting. I note the developing drugs industry in the area later busted by Operation Julie. Draw your own conclusions. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:19, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

50 Carnaby Street
Once it has had its 15 minutes on the main page, I think you could quite reasonably start new articles for four of the clubs. Lady Jane is already on 3539 hits today. Edwardx (talk) 10:38, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, it's amazing what fertile sources there are for some of this pop culture stuff if you dig a bit. Don't ask whether they are reliable sources... Philafrenzy (talk) 10:42, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm surprised you made this edit. I don't think there can be any reasonable doubt that the Tony Hall who made that comment was the same Tony Hall who had compered at the Flamingo Club, who wrote at the time for the Record Mirror, and who was active in the Soho jazz scene in the 1950s and 1960s - [1], [2], [3] - scroll down. I haven't found an explicit connection to the source of the comment, but I simply don't believe it to be in the slightest doubt. There are no other plausible candidates (this one was at school with me around that time!) Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:10, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- You may be right but Tony Hall is a very common name, I know one too, and you didn't give any evidence when you linked it in the first place. It's going on the front page soon so we ought to be certain. Can you prove it? Philafrenzy (talk) 12:13, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- The source of the quote is this page. Scroll down to the link to the Flamingo Club, which leads here, and it refers to "resident compere Tony Hall" and says: "...compering is in the capable hands of Tony Hall, who left Studio '51' after a two and a half year association to work at the Flamingo." If there had been more than one Tony Hall in that milieu at that time, the author of the page would have clarified which one was meant. But there was no need to do so, because there would have been no confusion - a writer on jazz who frequented the Soho clubs, and the subject of this article. It's beyond reasonable doubt the same person. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:19, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I have reverted myself. Thanks. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:39, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Now a clothes store, and more importantly, opposite a Waitrose. I have some photos somewhere, including the interior, but I probably won't add them until Wiki Loves Monuments starts on 1 September. This year, WLM is extended to include all Grade II buildings. Edwardx (talk) 13:58, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- And linked from David Litvinoff which was how I found it. If you can get an exterior shot that would make a good illustration for the Litvinoff article which could do with a few more. BTW I have just found in a charity shop this book which has a whole chapter titled Granny Takes a Trip. Philafrenzy (talk) 14:19, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

- Do you want to borrow it? In about a month. It goes from about 1966 up to punk including Sex (boutique). Do you fancy splitting out The Pheasantry from Martin Sharp. It cries out for similar treatment to 50 Carnaby Street. Philafrenzy (talk) 16:50, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Amazing stuff. At this rate, you should consider publishing a full-blown biography. And on another subject dear to you, some worrying news. Edwardx (talk) 15:59, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
- And there is more to come. Did you notice how many people seem to die around Betty? I have this findmypast thingy now so may be able to add some dates and real names etc. You can't give the middle classes free tea and cake and then take it away just when we are habituated to it. I am organising a protest in Oxford Street. I hope you and all right thinking people will join me. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:20, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oxford Street - what if we were to meet real working class people there who just wouldn't understand our pain? Peter Jones in Sloane Square might be a better/safer bet? Edwardx (talk) 23:22, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
- I am designing some very polite placards, viz: "Would you mind awfully reinstating the free tea and cake, there's a good fellow" and a chant: "What do we want? Free tea and cake. When do we want it? As soon as you can possibly manage it - no rush." Philafrenzy (talk) 23:27, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

trust you are enjoying wp - and truly settled in - hoping you agree with my edit on the talk page of the list of gazettes - as being list rather than journalism project oriented - and btw - good on you persisting with adding government gazettes. cheers satusuro 12:08, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

- my sincerest apologies for the initial interactions all those years ago - I would have brought you a cup of tea if you went anywhere near the recent hububub the barbican - and wow - very impressed by the quality of the betty may article - intriguing subject and well done - as for name changes of the damned gazettes - some organisations seem to have deliberately done it just to keep librarians and cataloguers in suspense, me thinks. satusuro 12:17, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Thank you from the DYK project and me Victuallers (talk) 12:12, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
FYI, I deprodded this one. Though a poor stub, the book clearly is notable, was on the NYT bestseller list for quite some time (and apparently it reappeared on the paperback lists in 2013 as a re-issue, probably driven by of her newer releases).--Milowent • hasspoken 04:07, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia-References-Creator
Have you tried this Firefox add-on? It creates a little "W" button in the top right hand corner. Just click on it when you're on a webpage and then paste the ref into your article. Saves a fair bit of work. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/wikipedia-references-creato/ Edwardx (talk) 00:21, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I will wait until it has more reviews and a verified author. Did you use that on Kennington because it drew some of the wrong details if so, but then, so does the one I recommended for Google Books if you don't watch it. It's a case of garbage in garbage out with the auto tools. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:26, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Someone mentioned this tool at a Wikimania talk where I was the session host, so I gave it a go. I agree that it can be problematic and needs some tweaking. I'll let you know if and when I can get it to work better. Edwardx (talk) 23:25, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I don't see how it can ever be clever enough to draw the right details from the page for our purposes. That must require the application of human intelligence. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:29, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Windows-1351 listed at Redirects for discussion
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Windows-1351. Since you had some involvement with the Windows-1351 redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. - TheChampionMan1234 10:12, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
7-Burl
Thanks for your thanks. That page was only like that for 6 YEARS. The half-naked men probably needed a kagool this afternoon. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 21:46, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- P.S. You et @Edwardx may be amazed to learn that there are nine recipients of blue plaques and an institution missing articles! Step forward Lincoln Stanhope Wainwright, St. John Groser, Percy Lane Oliver, Charles Vickery Drysdale, John Groom (philanthropist), John Horniman, Rachel McMillan, Barbara Hammond, James Robinson (dentist) and Collins' Music Hall! Gareth E Kegg (talk) 21:58, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- I am not surprised in the least! Just found Stewart Gray who was a national figure before WWI, now completely forgotten. Piecing him together from snippets found all over the place like doing a jigsaw. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:03, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for September 3
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Geoffrey Bles, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page James Hutchinson. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Dorset Square
Dorset Square looks very expandable to DYK level. And it has plenty of photos. Edwardx (talk) 13:29, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Indeed. Article opportunities seem to multiplying like rabbits. I feel I could go full-time if I am not careful. Try Geoffrey Bles who published the early Narnia. I didn't intend it as a DYK but it seems a pity to miss a Narnia hook. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:32, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Temperance Billiard Hall (Chelsea)
Finally added the photos (18!) for Temperance Billiard Hall (Chelsea) that I took in March. Lovely stained glass and other detailing. Adding all these old photos is why I'm #27 on the WLM list this year. Edwardx (talk) 10:50, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- I noticed. Tried to work one into the Litvinoff article but it wouldn't fit. I am sure you will soon eliminate those 26 pretenders to your throne. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:57, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- Number one on the list has uploaded 5,068 photos already this month. My OCD is quite mild by comparison. Edwardx (talk) 12:06, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- That's just the way it seems to you. We are organising an intervention for the next Wikimeet. You need help. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:37, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- You may be right. Especially as I'm likely to be a bit late as it is also Open House London this weekend. Edwardx (talk) 23:57, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- It's too late for me but you could probably still get out if you went cold turkey. Save yourself while you can. I noticed the Open House. There are some tours of the city or west end I think. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:00, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- I was confused as to dates - Open House is next weekend (20-21/9). So, I shall be at the meet-up as usual this Sunday. And I have been cutting back on my WP activity this week. Edwardx (talk) 13:18, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- I noticed the mobile edits. I have done little this week myself despite proliferating article ideas. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:31, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
