Welcome

[edit]

Hi Pgbones and welcome to Wikipedia! I've written some advice for past students in your class at Longy School of Music which you might find helpful. You'll find it here. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page (User talk:Voceditenore), or place {{helpme}} here on your talk page, ask your question, and another editor will come along to help. You might also be interested in WikiProject Classical music, WikiProject Composers, and WikiProject Opera. They have various guidelines for articles in this area and talk pages where you can ask advice from editors experienced in writing articles on classical music and related subjects. You'll find these guides particularly useful: WikiProject Composers: Guide to online research and WikiProject Composers: Copyright guidelines. Happy editing and best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 15:53, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Teahouse

[edit]

Hi. Me again. I wanted to let you know about another resource for beginners—Wikipedia's Teahouse. It's a place providing great support for new editors. You can ask questions (no question is too basic) and get helpful answers and advice from experienced editors. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 15:53, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Brockton Symphony Orchestra

[edit]

Hi there. I saw your article on Brockton Symphony Orchestra at Articles for creation. I doubt of this will get approved as community orchestras like this very, very rarely pass the notability criteria. You did very well to add it as a section at Brockton, Massachusetts, where I think it is more appropriate. Feel free to develop it there. When you're done, I can create a Redirect page to that section for the orchestra's name. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:18, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Me again :). I've had a go on your draft at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Brockton Symphony Orchestra. I was able to add several more references to it and expanded the contents. One of the problems with it was that you had referenced it solely to what we call primary sources. That is, sources published or written by the subject or people affiliated with the subject. Independent coverage is needed to demonstrate notability. The article also needed some claim to notability, i.e. why the subject should be in an encyclopedia. I've added some of the new works by notable composers that it has premiered as well as a quote from the Boston Globe describing it as "one of the region's classical jewels". We'll see if the AfC reviewer thinks this is enough for a stand-alone article. If not, there's still the Brockton, Massachusetts option. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 14:37, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
