Wagerup
[edit]I will refrain from what I think about the west inside cover article - but when you post a talk item (seeing you have none here) it is at the bottom of the page and you sign with four tildes ~ - and then youre closer to wikpedia accepted use. Ta. SatuSuro 09:58, 25 January 2007 (UTC) Giving your email address as your signature is not the conventional use - leaves you open to a whole range of issues...SatuSuro 10:02, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
my own opinion
[edit]Bottom of the page defies common sense and all other accepted norms in computing as no one is going to look for the latest entry at the bottom are they. And even so wikipedia itself uses most recent at top if you look at any history page for any article. Defies logic, but anyhows, just wanted to be first to tell the wiki world about another headline. Who cares whether anyone agrees with the article. no one. it's another piece of NEWS. hooray. Besides I don't have an opinion other than yippee I was first to tell you about it. petedavo@iinet.net.au 10:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Reverting your welcome message and going backwards and answering on your talk page and insistence on being something innovative is your problem. Remember there are guidelines and policies - best to have a good read:-
Welcome!
Hello, Petedavo, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

- By placing your details the way you have anyone with experience in wikipedia or the net will have traced you and your identity within the space of 2 and a half minutes. Supposed anonymity by the West journo re your anonymity is utter fake - the fact that you put your email address in your postings, and your family tree on the user page - effectively makes you a sitting duck! I'm not waiting around to hear the bang! SatuSuro 12:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- Youre pissing into the wind mate -The number of Wikipedians has grown to more than 3 million (currently and precisely 3,354,103 and most of them go the other way, just accept it SatuSuro 03:35, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Last word
[edit]OK, right you are, we should all stick to the rules.
I think your getting me confused with someone else thou, since there's an implication in the post. For the record: I didn't know about the wiki article on Wagerup till I read about it in the Newspaper, So, I'm not the person who spoke to the newspaper. Nor, am I the Alcoa person either. I work for the WA Police and live too far away from Wagerup to really be insterested in forming an opinion on any debate on a local issue. If you think I shouldn't of posted the entry in the Wagerup talk then just edit it out. I don't care - the editors will probably delete it anyway. Have fun! petedavo 03:52, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Good to see you checkedout the Australian and West Australian project pages- hope you you enjoy your stay on wikipedia....SatuSuro 04:20, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Welcome
[edit]- Hope you can contribute to WP:WA. Have a look around there to get ideas for ways that you can.
- By the way, I know where you are coming from with top and bottom of talk pages, it confused me too. We add to paper documents at the bottom, but digital documents open at the top. Fortunately, the wikipedia has the best of both worlds. By clicking '(last change)' in the 'new message' advice, the change appears at the top and is entered at the bottom (or under the selected heading). I might know who to direct you to, if you need any quick help.
Most importantly, enjoy it here! Fred 07:14, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Cheers! I think I'll probably muddle thru and be in the sandpit for a while, like i was on Google Earth, and then have to go back and fix a lot of my bugger ups, but fortunately there are others to edit too. petedavo 07:21, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I found the tutorial very useful to have around at first. Cheatsheets are useful in an open window, too. Click the Help:contents help in navigation box to find them at any time. The manual of style WP:MOS is worth reading, despite the boring name. I find citation very fiddly but you can always put them on the talk page. There are a lot of good west aussie editors and admins, you will probably run into them. Fred 07:43, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hey we all have the bugger ups - never assume that we dont - if you looked at my talk page you'd find my most recent (at the top by the way) I put in an isbn that wasnt true - I've had to live with an intemperate ex american military guy expecting me to have fixed it last week ever since he found it - in 50 articles mind you. So we all started the same. Sorry about filling your talk page with my messages - at least you have fred joining in! (he's from fremantle - I'm from the hills if thats any help....) And out west australian admins are excellent - I will second freds comment on that SatuSuro 07:46, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Templates
[edit]I love those templates for joining up, so I tried to make one, for the clans of scotland project but I'm hopelessly lost. Hopefully someone else will come along and fix it up?? petedavo 08:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
The templates are under construction. I left them a message about this. Red links are non-existent pages and should not be on that page. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Fred 10:50, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Have I misunderstood. Are you trying to create the Template? Never done it but will help you if you want. You might want to suggest it first on the talk page. Fred 11:02, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent help in this area is probably the tireless User:Orderinchaos78 if he's around SatuSuro 11:05, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've left a message I think he might be off for a while until later in this weekend - I am trying to get him help with a template issue at Maritime History (as well) SatuSuro 11:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh userboxes? Yeah, that's pretty easy - I'll look into it. Just gotta have a shower though - power went off for 3 hours here (as with large areas of Perth) and it got to 30 in here. :| Orderinchaos78 11:16, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Done. Hope this is what was required - if anything else is needed just reply to this and I'll look into it later tonight :) Orderinchaos78 11:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Fixed this on your user page, O78 did the rest. Let him know if you find a better image. Fred 11:55, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
You blokes are way too cool! Many thanks petedavo 05:24, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Orderincharos for templates - Fred for keeping watch - but very important anything that looks like admin help - Hesperian, Moondyne and Gnangarra are our three hosepersons of the hot weather when it comes to heat generated in wikipedia sense... a message with them - and it can be sorted out usually within the same day.... SatuSuro 05:47, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
OK, I'm trying to fix this up a bit and put in the chiefs, however I only know as far back as the last three. Any other ides? petedavo 08:08, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Banter on Geological Issues
[edit]Woodleigh is being misrepresented in the Impact_crater article. Unfortunately they based their facts on a the Earth Impact Databasewhich is not an Authority on these matters. Unfortunately the web is like that thou, sometimes an opinion becomes a fact. Anyway read for yourselves at WA Geological Survey Meteorite Impacts in Western Australiaand make up your own mind. After going to WAIT to do Geology I'm probably biased. petedavo 08:03, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Rail anecdotes
[edit]The citation warriors will probably require some documentation on some of that stuff.... just because you know it is no longer a defence sufficient - dont say i didnt warn ya! SatuSuro 07:52, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I was actually looking thru the PTA website just thinking that and getting cheesed because thye have bugger all in there (actually nothing) so I was wondering if someone would help out, when I just get this notice that I have a message.
Maybe it's good luck, because my spelling/typos are not he best so I was/now am asking if anyone could discover some references. petedavo 08:07, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Not easy - over-reliance on web sites as a ref is one of my bugbears - look at the WAGR article - and the refs at the bottom - the 'making of westrail book might back some stuff up - otherwise there are enthusiast web sites - try typing things into google and see if you can find them - they might help, or not SatuSuro 08:11, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I'll have to use books like Carden's because the web wasn't invented till the last few decades. Geez I feel old now.. Must be time for a nap. LOL. At least I still have my teeth and hair. I have a mnth off coming up so I'll have to go down to the Libary to look up my citations. My typing is getting worse in this heat. My brain must be cooked.petedavo 08:19, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Brigadier General William Lee Davidson
[edit]I see you started this page. You might want to consider making these pages in your own user space and migrating it to wikipedia's main page when you are done. At this point a "TODO" in the page is inappropriate. Would you mind adding a {{stub}} statement to the page instead of the TODO? //BankingBum 09:24, 25 February 2007 (UTC) $$
- I am new to this, esp creating new stuff, so I'll give it a go and see how bad I muck up petedavo 09:28, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- Cool. I might recommend that you start by reading Wikipedia:About#Contributing_to_Wikipedia //BankingBum 09:44, 25 February 2007 (UTC) $$

AfD nomination of Major James Davidson
[edit]An editor has nominated Major James Davidson, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Major James Davidson and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Thought I'd do a clean up the references for the Brian_Burke page and add current factual info, before some nutter starts throwing in anything controversial and probably defamatory. Just a tinker anyway to set the scene so you guys can keep it in check. petedavo 07:51, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
